Drug repositioning is one of emerging approaches dedicated to find alternative usages of existing drugs efficiently and economically, especially with the advance in computational technology. The current progress made for computational drug repositioning is primarily focusing on informatics approach development/improvement or exploration on different type of data in order to identify possible drug candidates. Comparing to the existing studies, we proposed a novel method for constructing the disease based network by applying data extracted from the Semantic MEDLINE. Phenotypical associations (disease-disease associations) can be identified from this network, which can drive drug repositioning study by targeting on specific domain. In this paper, we successfully demonstrated the capability of the disease based network in hidden phenotypical association discovery to support drug repositioning in case studies.

E-commerce has been one critical component of information society now;however creditis becoming a bottleneck for its further development. Therefore Shanghai is building a third-party e-commerce credit evaluation platform. The platform will be integrated with many external systems tocollect massive credit-related data, doscientific evaluation and provide users with personalized credit services. In order todeal with mass data and provide personalized services totenants of the platform, a cloud computing model of Shanghai e-commerce credit evaluation platform is designed in this paper. In PaaS layer, we propose a mass data processing technology based on the XML metadata specification;in SaaS layer, we propose a mixed model of data storage and a model of areas-layered tenant customization. Experiments show that these technologies and models can improve the data processing efficiency and resource utilization greatly.

This paper comprehensively reviews the paradigm of mobile cloud computing, which comprises advantages of mobile computing, cloud computing, and networking. We systematically overview the major benefits offered to mobile cloud computing by the anticipated fifth-generation wireless technology, including the aspects of heterogeneous connectivity, device-to-device and machine-to-machine communications, as well as energy efficiency. Our work concludes by revealing open challenges as well as attractive directions for further research and may be useful for initial orientation in this field.

Power-aware computing has become an important problem not only in embedded systems but also in large-scale data centers in Cloud computing environments. Many recent studies have focused on power-aware virtual machine allocation or consolidation. However, few research has been done about implementation of power-aware schedulers in VMM (Virtual Machine Monitor). In this paper, we provide a prototype design for power-aware schedulers in RT-Xen hypervisor. The proposed system is based on compositional real-time scheduling framework which provides a method to abstract each virtual machine into a single component. The proposed prototype includes how to transmit VM real-time requirements into VMM and dynamic frequency control based on those requirements. Throughout the experiments, we analyze the proposed prototype and show the performance evaluation.

Nowadays, with the increased deployment of servers to facilitate high performance computing (HPC) for scientific and engineering applications lead to large consumption of energy. Cloud computing is a cost-effective solution, as it allows to host storage, computational and supported network services on a shared infrastructure of physical servers. However, the growing demand of cloud infrastructure among the IT companies is drastically increasing, by which data centers are drawing more energy. Energy efficient scheduling is one effective solution to streamline the resource usage as well as reduce the energy consumption. The proposed work in this paper demonstrates the resource allocation and makes an energy consumption analysis of Greedy, Round Robin and Power Aware Best Fit Decreasing scheduling algorithms on a private academic cloud. This paper provides an insight into the working of different scheduling scenarios for cloud computing and demonstrates the potential for the improvement of energy efficiency of PABFD algorithm under academic workload.

With the advent of Cloud computing and subsequent big data, online decision makers usually find it difficult to make informed decisions because of the great amount of irrelevant, uncertain, or inaccurate information. In this paper, we explore the application of multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques in the area of Cloud computing and big data, to find an efficient way of dealing with criteria relations and fuzzy knowledge based on a great deal of information. We propose a MCDM framework, which combines the ISM-based and ANP-based techniques, to model the interactive relations between evaluation criteria, and to handle data uncertainties. We present an application of Cloud service selection to prove the efficiency of the proposed framework, in which a user-oriented sigmoid utility function is designed to evaluate the performance of each criterion.

The availability of reference models for data warehouses lowers the obstacles that inhibit small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from using business intelligence technology. Service providers may offer to companies a set of pre-configured reference models for various industries. Modelers may then customize the chosen reference model, tailoring the model to the specific needs of the individual company. This customization may consist of additions, omissions, and modifications with respect to the reference model. In this paper, we propose a metamodel and customization approach for reference multidimensional models. We emphasize simplicity and understandability in order to facilitate the introduction of business intelligence solutions in SMEs. Furthermore, we specifically address the explicit modeling of key performance indicators and their calculation rules as well as the definition of reference data marts for report building.

In this paper we propose a novel approach, named Real-Time Alternative-Route Definition (RT-ARounD), to support real-time message streams over large-scale wireless sensor networks. Starting from a standard cluster-tree topology, where each cluster has active and inactive periods, the proposal selects a set of nodes to build a mesh topology which is used during the inactive periods of the respective clusters to transmit messages with real-time requirements. This new topology is built considering shortest path routes between source and sink nodes. In that way, the number of hops that a real-time message needs to transverse can be drastically reduced, thereby improving the real-time responsiveness of the overall network. Moreover, the use of the inactive period guarantees that the normal cluster-tree operation remains unaffected.

Cloud-enabled wireless industrial sensor networks is an emerging paradigm in machine-type communication. It supports “device-centric” architectures that efficiently exploit intelligence at field device side replacing Host-centric architectures to handle critical condition. In this paper we propose a flexible architecture for integrating a self-contained network-embedded cloud system (Wireless Cloud Network, WCN) with a wireless industrial network infrastructure implementing the Time Synchronized Channel Hopping (TSCH) as supported by commercial WirelessHART systems. The WCN acts as a small-cell embedded network consisting of devices that gather and process pervasive information about the state of the industrial plant. Devices member of the cloud support advanced communication services and enable early and localized detection of dangerous conditions. In addition, they act as data processing centers distributed at the edge of the TSCH network. A hardware and software architecture is developed and tailored for WirelessHART (IEC 62591) protocol while preliminary experimental measurements are also carried out to evaluate the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed system.

In this work, we develop an IPv6 enabled smart building test-bed facility, by combining sensing and communication devices and functionalities. We address the Internet of Things paradigm by using diverse heterogeneous devices such as smartphones, sensor motes, NFC technology and traditional electrical devices, each one serving a specific role in the test-bed facility. Also, we extend a basic actuation component by making it self-aware, in terms of supported resources. Those enhancements allow us to enrich the test-bed's capabilities in terms of M2M communication, portability and decentralization of the actuation process. Finally, we provide a simple smart room scenario for a tunable combination of energy efficiency and comfort, which automatically adjusts the room's light level based on ambient conditions and user preferences and demonstrate the feasibility of our system.
