The applications of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) in large scale, mobile and distributed systems, such as transportation and healthcare systems, foster the development of novel cross-CPS applications. Services, in such applications, enable the emergence of multiple end-to-end cyber-physical scenarios, formed dynamically based on their demands, e.g., disaster recovery systems. This calls for new distributed service composition models that integrate different CPS services from multiple application domains for a given purpose-CPS ecosystems. The in-Cloud availability of CPSs can significantly improve the development process of such ecosystems thanks to the global and rapid accessibility of CPS services in the Cloud. However, a major challenge in this context is the highly dynamic nature of CPS services, making service composition a challenging issue. In this paper, we propose to exploit the concept of models at runtime in order to create a dynamic middleware framework that allows efficient composition of CPS services in dynamic and on-demand CPS ecosystems. This is achieved by obtaining the runtime models of CPS services and synthesizing software mediators that translate the communications between individual CPS services residing in the Cloud. The in-Cloud availability of CPS services will facilitate the design of such a middleware framework, and processing and maintaining the runtime models.

In this paper, we propose effective techniques for automatic writer recognition that operate at different analysis levels. At the texture level, we present a novel 2-D wavelet-based method toreplace the traditional 2-D Gabor filter. In our analysis at the microstructure level, we use a floating grid around every edge pixel torecord orientation and curvature information tocharacterize writer individuality. The final unique distance between twohandwritten samples is computed as the average of the distances between the individual features. The experiments on a database containing 203 writers of address images exhibit that proposed methods achieve promising results.

Applications such as fleet management and logistics, emergency response, public security and surveillance or mobile workforce management use geo-positioning and mobile networks as means of enabling real-time monitoring, communication and collaboration among a possibly large set of mobile nodes. The majority of those systems require real-time tracking of mobile nodes (e.g. vehicles, people or mobile robots), reliable communication to/from the nodes, as well as group communication among the mobile nodes. In this paper we describe a distributed middleware with focus on management of context-defined groups of mobile nodes, and group communication with large sets of nodes. We also present a prototype Fleet Tracking and Management system based on our middleware, give an example of how context-specific group communication can enhance the node's mutual awareness, and show initial performance results that indicate small overhead and latency of the group communication and management.

Managing a home server within individual house is a major obstacle to practical use of home network system (HNS). Delegating the home server to a cloud is a promising approach. However, the conventional multi-tenant SaaS-based solution has the following risks among different households: security/privacy violation, failure propagation and insufficient resource demand. In this paper, we propose a novel cloud-based architecture for the home network system that achieves security isolation, fault isolation and resource isolation. Specifically, we first create a virtual home server for every household using IaaS. On top of every virtual home server, we then create additional virtual machines, each of which contains a single service or application. Finally, using dynamic scaling, we allocate resources needed for individual virtual home servers. Based on the idea, we construct the proposed architecture by three layers: HNS Lite, House Cloud and Service Provider.

Processes allow the high-level description and execution of service call sequences among multiple devices. Pervasive systems created the need for decentralized and resource-saving process execution environments due to a lack of central high-powered servers for process orchestration. Ubiquitous systems add the aspect of loosely-coupled mobile devices and the strong focus on the user to the list of challenges that need to be handled when executing processes. Current process engines, however, are not able to handle these new requirements regarding scalability, dynamics, and user interactions sufficiently. In this work in progress, we propose a hierarchical peer-to-peer architecture for a distributed process execution environment. The proposed system is able to cope with the dynamics and scalability demands of ubiquitous systems and allows for more resilient processes. In addition, the devices involved in the processes provide the user with means for interaction with the process execution. We will discuss the approach and the application of suitable algorithms to improve its efficiency and the utilization of available resources.

Modern cities continuously struggle with infrastructural problems especially when the population is massively growing. One affected area is public transportation. In default of offering convenient and reliable service the passengers tend to consider other transport alternatives. However, even a relatively simple functional enhancement, such as providing real-time timetable information, requires considerable investment and effort following traditional means, e.g. deploying sensors and building a background communication and processing infrastructure. Using the power of crowd to gather the required data, share information and send feedback is a viable and cost effective alternative. In this demonstration, we present TrafficInfo, our prototype smart phone application to implement a participatory sensing based live public transport information service. TrafficInfo visualizes the actual position of public transport vehicles with live updates on a map, and gives support to crowd sourced data collection and passenger feedback.

The next generation network requires a suitable QoS that can increase number of users and revenues. The IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) import new taxation strategy flow based and QoS management policy-based. The QoS management poses a competition in terms of limitations of physical resources and the onset of congestion, which encourages more organisaton to look for management solutions other than DiffServ and IntServ. The NSIS (Next Steps in Signaling) appears as a magical solution that couples DiffServ and IntServ with other properties of control traffic to validate these properties and shows the integration with IMS we present this article. Our goal, in this article, is give an idea about a Framework that coupling NSIS and policy-based management in IMS, and experimentally verify results.

Compositional real-time scheduling frameworks provide ways for building large and complex real-time embedded systems from independent sub-systems. This paper introduces a novel scheme for scheduling a component of Mixed-Criticality (MC) sporadic tasks on uniprocessor system. It characterizes the mixed criticality resource allocations, and the interface model for abstracting the real-time requirements of such a component. The demand bound function and supply bound function for the low and high criticality modes are derived to determine the schedulability of a component in both modes. The execution times of jobs are monitored in this approach. If it is detected that the behavior of system is inconsistent with low criticality level, then tasks of low criticalities are discarded and the priorities of high criticality tasks are re-ordered in high criticality mode to guarantee the schedulabilty of high criticality tasks. We propose a new algorithm, which schedules a component of mixed criticality jobs in low mode through MC Rate Monotonic (MC-RM) algorithm by applying period transformation, and guarantees the schedulabilty by using MC Earliest Deadline First (MC-EDF) algorithm in high mode.

Conventional cloud computing architectures may seriously constrain computational throughput for high performance computing (HPC) and high-performance data (HPD) applications. The traditional approach to circumvent such problems has been to map these applications and problems onto other specialized hardware and coprocessor architectures. This is both time and resource expensive, and poses a challenge for rapidly rising demands for computation and data analytics. In this paper we report on progress to develop an alternative experimental software defined cloud implementation that virtualizes the topology of a standard HPC computational architecture. This software defined system re-arranges access to the nodes and dynamically customizes the features of the HPC hardware architecture so that they map to the specifics of the computation and data analysis application. This allows a cloud computing implementation to utilize the specialized infrastructure capabilities of an HPC system. We have created this type of user reconfigurable architecture on an IBM Blue Gene/P supercomputing environment at the Department of Energy's Argonne Leadership computing Facility (ALCF). This pilot configuration was implemented using both an open source cloud technology called VCL (Virtual computing Laboratory) in combination with a provisioning module called Kittyhawk. Cloud security is addressed by configuring and running a root-less version of the VCL cloud system on the ALCF's Blue Gene/P login node.
