In this work,we are interested in periodic beacons transmission,the main cause of the Control Channel(CCH)congestion and the major obstacle delaying the progress of safety messages dissemination in *** order to offload the network,solutions that range from transmit rate to transmit power adaptations including hybrid solutions have been *** some of these solutions have managed to successfully reduce the load on the wireless channel,none,to the best of our knowledge,have considered the impact of the applied adaptation scheme on the overall level of awareness among vehicles and its *** TS released a technical specification stating a limit for the minimum beacons transmit rate in order to maintain a good level of awareness among vehicles and ensure a certain accuracy in VANET *** this paper,we propose to jointly adapt both transmit rate and power in a new smart way that guarantees a strict beaconing frequency as well as a good level of awareness in closer ranges,while maintaining a marginal beacons collision rate and a good level of channel ***,the transmit rate is adapted to meet the channel requirements in terms of collision rate and channel load;then,once the minimum beacon transmit rate,set by ETSI,has been reached,transmit power is adapted in a way that guarantees a good level of awareness for closer *** simulation results show a significant enhancement in terms of the quality as well as the level of awareness.

Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor-based clusters offer high compute and memory performance for parallel workloads and also support direct network access. Many real world applications are significantly impacted by network characteristics and to maximize the performance of such applications on these clusters, it is particularly important to effectively saturate network bandwidth and/or hide communications latency. We demonstrate how to do so using techniques such as pipelined DMAs for data transfer, dynamic chunk sizing, and better asynchronous progress. We also show a method for, and the impact of avoiding serialization and maximizing parallelism during application communication phases. Additionally, we apply application optimizations focused on balancing computation and communication in order to hide communication latency and improve utilization of cores and of network bandwidth. We demonstrate the impact of our techniques on three well known and highly optimized HPC kernels running natively on the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor. For the Wilson-Dslash operator from Lattice QCD, we characterize the improvements from each of our optimizations for communication performance, apply our method for maximizing concurrency during communication phases, and show an overall 48% improvement from our previously best published result. For HPL/LINPACK, we show 68.5% efficiency with 97 TFLOPs on 128 Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors, the first ever reported native HPL efficiency on a coprocessor-based supercomputer. For FFT, we show 10.8 TFLOPs using 1024 Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors on the TACC Stampede cluster, the highest reported performance on any Intel Architecture-based cluster and the first such result to be reported on a coprocessor-based supercomputer.

As most clouds are based on virtualization technology, more and more virtual machine images are created within data centers. Depending on the need of disaster recovery, the storage space used for backup would easily sprawl to a TB or PB level with the growth of images. Unfortunately, different images have a large amount of same data segments. Those duplicated data segments will lead to serious waste of storage resource. Although there is a lot of work focus on deduplication storage and could achieve a good result in removing duplicate copies, they are not very suitable for virtual machine image deduplication in a cloud environment. Because huge resource usage of deduplication operations could lead to serious performance interference to the hosting virtual machines. This paper propose a local deduplication method which can speed up the operation progress of virtual machine image deduplication and reduce the operation time. The method is based on an improved k-means clustering algorithm, which could classify the metadata of backup image to reduce the search space of index lookup and improve the index lookup performance. Experiments show that our approach is robust and effective. It can significantly reduce the performance interference to hosting virtual machine with an acceptable increase in disk space usage.

The Support Vector Classification(SVC) model was constructed in this study by applying the near infrared(NIR) analysis technology combined with the chemometrics method toclassify and distinguish 11 types of vegetable oil, including "restaurant waste oil". Partial least squaresdiscriminate analysis(PLS-DA) and GA-SVC classification models were constructed, respectively, after the data were preprocessed with Savitzky-Golay(SG) smoothing, Standardized normal variate and De-trending(SNV-DT) and unit vector normalization(UVN). The results indicated that the pre-processing effect of SNV-DT was the best, PLS-DA failed tocomplete the classification, while GA-SVC model was able tomake accurate prediction, the penalty parameter of SVC classifier C=642.5 was toolarge, and the model had poor generalizability and the modeling was time consuming. Back Interval Partial Least Squares(Bi PLS), Successive Projection Algorithm(SPA), and Bi PLS-SPA were adopted respectively toextract the characteristic wavelength toconstruct GA-SVC classification model. Of these three methods, the wavelength selected with Bi PLS-SPA was 17, accounting for only 3.77% of the full wave, the penalty parameter was C=32.53, and the identification rates of prediction set and calibration set reached 95% and 99.4%, respectively. This model alsohad the shortest modeling time, and better generalizability. This research indicated that the method of NIR combined with GA-SVC could classify and distinguish edible vegetable oils rapidly, accurately and effectively. BiP LS-SPA could effectively reduce the collinearity among variables, allowing the model tobe more robust with high generalizability.

Supervisory control reconfiguration can handle the uncertainties including resource failures and task changes in discrete event systems. It was not addressed to exploit the robustness of closed-loop systems to accommodate some uncertainties in the prior studies. Such exploitation can cost-efficiently achieve reconfigurability and flexibility for real systems. This paper presents a robust reconfiguration method based on Petri nets (PNs) and integer programming for supervisory control of resource allocation systems (RASs) subject to varying resource allocation relationships. An allocation relationship is seen as a control specification while the execution processes requiring resources as an uncontrolled plant. First, a robust reconfiguration mechanism is proposed. It includes updating the P-invariant-based supervisor and evolving the state of the closed-loop system. The latter adapts to the control specification changes by the self-regulation of the closed-loop system's state. Next, two novel integer programming models for control reconfiguration are proposed, called a reconfiguration model with acceptability and reconfiguration one with specification correction. Since both models integrate the firability condition of transitions, no additional efforts are required for the state reachability analysis. Finally, a hospital emergency service system is used as an example to illustrate them. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Epistatic interactions between genes are believed to be a critical component in the genetic architecture of complex diseases. Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS) may be able to detect such genetic interactions indirectly, via the identification of associated SNP markers. Major obstacles to progress in this area are: the unknown nature of epistatic interactions, little understanding of the capabilities of different filtering methods, and the computational difficulties for exhaustive analysis. A common platform enabling various detection methods is needed to avoid practical issues such as software compatibility and portability, incompatible input and output formats and varying demands on computational resources. We developed a highly optimised GPU system capable of exhaustively analysing all SNP-pairs in typical GWAS data (0.5M SNPs, 5K samples) in a few minutes on a standard desktop computer. A number of programming elements provided by a functional interface can be used to construct user-defined statistical tests to efficiently score every SNP pair. As a proof of principle, we have implemented 8 methods from the literature via our interface. We have applied all of them using a single GPU to exhaustively scan the 7 popular WTCCC case-control GWAS datasets. We present timing results for these methods, both in their original software implementations and using our platform. Significant improvements in timing are observed, up to 10000 times for CPU implementations of the popular FastEpistasis in PLINK and up to 2 orders of magnitude for some GPU implementations in the literature. As an initial discovery we show plots for overlaps of list of selected pairs by 8 algorithms for Type 2 Diabetes, WTCCC data.

Many patients use the Internet to find information that can improve their health conditions. In this context, Health Social Networks are acquiring greater force in people's lives by offering them opportunities for social networking to expose questions, experiences, besides new treatments and seek to form relationships giving or receiving emotional support. We developed a Healthcare Social Network called "Minha Saude", a virtual environment that facilitates contact between patients with cardiovascular problems with the goal to promote actions related to social inclusion of people involved. Through a called "Care Plan" available in the Social Network, we tried to motivate patients to get more interest in their own care. Daily activities, emotional states, symptoms and situations will be provided by the patient in the system through any device with internet connection. This information will be used to visualize the progress of patient's health and can be used to make medical decisions as needed. Also, we distinguish an important fact related to the Care Plan, which is the inter-relationship between patients with similar characteristics, we found it important to this action that patients can feed back their experiences and this fact can serve as motivation for them to adhere more their treatments. For this, we developed an algorithm following a Content-plus-link approach for friendship recommendation between those patients who share similar interests and thus increase the level of collaboration and communication between them. This recommendation is based on data from clinical profile, health status, interests and possible previously existing connections. The results are promising about to use of the Care Plan module and the recommendations that were accepted by the participants to create friendship.

Digital home business is a large potential market for which ACEMIND European collaborative project intends to provide a set of consistent solutions to enhance the local network management in home and small enterprises. These networks are typically constituted by some tens of devices connected to each other via a set of wired and wireless technologies. The deployment of such networks has been intensive in Europe in the last decade and will continue in the future. However common end-users still suffer from complicated installation, operation or maintenance. Recent progress has been made to integrate heterogeneous connectivity into a single network. A proof of concept has been shown thanks to European collaborative project OMEGA and the hybrid network demonstrator has led to an ieee standard and available commercial products. The goal of ACEMIND project is to enrich this initial concept with new features and services such as energy efficiency, packets load balancing or anomaly detection. Another target is to integrate future products using new transmission technologies. Then, using a unique user-friendly GUI (Graphical User Interface), it will be possible to monitor and manage the home network with a large range of services such as energy optimization, UHD TV or wellness.

As a software project ages, its source code is modified to add new features, restructure existing ones, and fix defects. These source code changes often induce changes in the build system, i.e., the system that specifies how source code is translated into deliverables. However, since developers are often not familiar with the complex and occasionally archaic technologies used to specify build systems, they may not be able to identify when their source code changes require accompanying build system changes. This can cause build breakages that slow development progress and impact other developers, testers, or even users. In this paper, we mine the source and test code changes that required accompanying build changes in order to better understand this co-change relationship. We build random forest classifiers using language-agnostic and language-specific code change characteristics to explain when code-accompanying build changes are necessary based on historical trends. Case studies of the Mozilla C++ system, the Lucene and Eclipse open source Java systems, and the IBM Jazz proprietary Java system indicate that our classifiers can accurately explain when build co-changes are necessary with an AUC of 0.60-0.88. Unsurprisingly, our highly accurate C++ classifiers (AUC of 0.88) derive much of their explanatory power from indicators of structural change (e.g., was a new source file added?). On the other hand, our Java classifiers are less accurate (AUC of 0.60-0.78) because roughly 75% of Java build co-changes do not coincide with changes to the structure of a system, but rather are instigated by concerns related to release engineering, quality assurance, and general build maintenance.

The effectiveness of telehealth and mHealth technologies in long-term wellbeing management relies on their acceptability with users. Factors such as low self-efficacy and poor peer support are frequently noted barriers that inhibit users from taking an active part in self-management. Here we report a work-in-progress research project, Vital signs in Music (ViM), using automatically-generated short music pieces from vital sign readings as an additional personalised data format to encourage sharing and to help establish peer support amongst users.
