As the surge toward a technology-driven and dependent society increases, the demand for technology oriented workforce particularly computer science continues to rise. However, the concern that continues to persist in a number of higher institutions of learning is the low graduation rates and poor performance in computer science programs. This study, carried out in a Kenyan public university attempted to extend the understanding on the performance of computer science students The study aimed at examining whether performance in early foundational core courses had any influence on the final graduation score (through final accumulative score) among computer science students using ensemble machine learning methods. The study specifically employed Random Forest and XGBoost ensemble methods. The results showed the Random forest regression model having a prediction power of 83.20% while XGBoost had a slightly improved prediction power of 84.6%. The results also revealed better model performance when using only years 1 and 2 core courses as compared to using years 1 to 3 core courses. This is an indicator that foundational core courses are good predictors of student academic performance in computer science programs. This work in progress is part of a preliminary study aimed at addressing the challenge of low graduation rates and poor performance in computer science programs. © 2024 ieee.

Prolonged and frequent exposure to elevated blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) significantly increases the likelihood of developing chronic complications, such as neuropathy, nephropathy, and cardiovascular disease, along with acute symptoms like fatigue and blurry vision. While current technologies, such as continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) and continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), can forecast adverse events like hypoglycemia and deliver small insulin doses to counteract hyperglycemia, progress in developing tailored AI-driven interventions remains limited, which poses a barrier to optimal diabetes care. To address this gap, we propose leveraging counterfactual explanations that guide patients in making targeted adjustments to their carbohydrate intake and insulin dosing to avoid abnormal glucose levels. We introduce GlyMan4, a novel method that generates counterfactual behavioral recommendations aimed at helping patients and caregivers make small, informed changes to prevent hyperglycemia, thus substantially reducing both its frequency and duration. Additionally, GlyMan incorporates user preferences into its intervention process and ensures more customized and patient-centered guidance. We rigorously evaluated GlyMan using real-world data from 21 type 1 diabetes (T1D) patients using automated insulin delivery (AID) systems. Results indicate that GlyMan surpasses existing methods, delivering 76.6% valid explanations and 86% effectiveness when assessed against historical data. © 2024 ieee.

The rapid development and progress of artificial intelligence algorithms in the last decade has opened up many new possibilities and fields for its application. The field of human-computer interaction is not only not an exception, but it can also be considered a veteran. Among the general population, there is a certain level of apprehension when it comes to introducing artificial intelligence into new areas and aspects of human life. In this paper, we will attempt to shed new light on this issue and the current trend of villainizing AI, as well as present current trends in enhancing user security based on it. In this paper, we propose a Virtual Machine (VM) migration method that maximizes the total accuracy in a multistage information processing system, under the constraint that the given ratio of tasks satisfy the constraint of improving the given level of accuracy (i.e., progress in information processing) within a required response time. Conventional methods only aim to improve the total accuracy and do not consider achieving the given level of accuracy for each task. The proposed method aims to improve the ratio of tasks that can satisfy the given level of accuracy by balancing the load among edge servers as much as possible. In order to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method, we set the given level of task accuracy and evaluate the total accuracy by varying the number of VMs present in the system. The evaluation results show that the proposed method improves the number of VMs satisfying the given level of accuracy by 120% and the total accuracy by up to approximately 13% compared to the case without VM migration. © 2024 ieee.

There has been a significant uptick in the need for user-centric electronic records to save the many characteristics of a patient's medical history as they are recorded at a hospital during treatment and to make those records available as and when they are needed for future treatment, care, or invoicing. Blockchain technology allows us to save these data on a distributed ledger, allowing us to begin and enable use at breakneck speeds while still maintaining a transparent and secure system. To save records safely and in an interoperable fashion, a distributed system with ledger functionality is used. Block chain technology has the potential to revolutionize the way digital assets are transacted by removing the need for a trusted third party to authenticate data authenticity, record asset ownership, or mediate financial or data transactions. Immutability, decentralisation, and transparency are three of its defining characteristics, making it well suited to resolving pressing problems in the healthcare industry, such as the lack of comprehensive peer-to-peer files and the inability to easily access patients' medical histories. Health care systems that are efficient and successful depend on interoperability, the capacity of different health organisations and manufacturers of different software products to connect and share data in a safe and smooth manner. Many problems in modern healthcare can be traced back to a lack of interoperability, such as siloed data, sluggish communications, and different workflow tools. To address this, it is recommended to implement a system that provides secure, pseudo-anonymous access to complete, recognised longitudinal medical records stored in silos. In this article, we conducted a system overview and literature review of block chain technology in a fog computing environment, both of which are capable of processing vast amounts of data in a decentralised fashion. With the rapid development of Information Communication Technology (ICT), research on urban functional areas has been one of the hot research issue in urban study domain. The prosperity of deep learning contributes to the rapid progress of scene text detection. Among all the methods, segmentation-based methods have drawn extensive attention due to their superiority in detecting text instances of arbitrary shapes and extreme aspect ratios. However, the bottom-up methods are limited to the performance of their segmentation models. In this paper, we propose DPTNet (Dual-Path Transformer Network), a simple yet effective network to utilize both global and local information for the scene text detection task. Moreover, we propose a parallel design that integrates the convolutional network with a powerful self-attention mechanism to provide complementary clues. In addition, a bi-directional interaction module across two paths is developed to provide complementary clues along the channel and spatial dimensions. Our DPTNet achieves state-of-the-art results on several standard benchmarks in terms of both detection accuracy and speed. © 2023 ieee.

The paper contributes to getting familiar with various tools and platforms incorporated with learning dashboards that provide digital teaching and learning. The article also includes the different components for learning analytics used by various universities in their LMSs dashboards to improve their teaching-learning achievements. Learning analytics dashboards plays a vital role in the virtual learning environment. These tools work by tracking learners' data, analyzing data, and presenting the results by revealing the patterns of learners' behavior and attitude. This paper contributes to an analysis of learning dashboards and tools. With the ITU's approval of the new draft proposal recommendations within the IMT Framework document for the period beyond 2030, research has recognized that 6G mobile technology incorporates numerous enhancements in usage scenarios and capabilities. This paper presents a short review of the progress of 6G technological advancement, including its use cases, key performance indicators, innovations in network support technology, and several potential spectrum options. The review is developed based on primary literature, including the relevant ITU document that encompasses IMT 2030 usage scenarios (as of June 2023). In this paper, we try to define progress in research for new services related to 6G use cases. A simulation is conducted to offer an overview of the theoretical 6G capacity. The simulation for theoretical 6G capacity is based on the bandwidth of spectrum candidates between 100 MHz and 1000 MHz. For network support, we identify some requirements to support 6G networks, such as integrated access and backbone, integrated space and terrestrial networks, free-space optical networks, distributed cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. Finally, the paper will also delve into discussing the implications and challenges expected during the 6G implementation phase, including the fulfillment of the key performance indicator objectives and the key value indicator, which is divided into two main components: the first is growth, and the second is sustainability and efficiency domains. © 2023 ieee.

In this short paper, we present methods and solutions for specific issues of concern to engineers and application technologists related to modeling a smart city's transformation. The main body of developing "structural design modeling"for a smart city utilizes the Unified Modeling Language™ (UML®) conceptual approach. Our approach provides an overview of the specific domains (points - nodes) related to the topic. Our discussion does not delve into significant issues. It does not solidify the proposed approaches but as a research proposal, it remains at a level that could be described as a presentation or an argumentative position. Our short paper heavily relies on diagrams of models. This short paper focuses on specific design issues related to modeling mappings specifically for the design and modeling processes for a smart city. © 2023 Owner/Author.
