The current trend towards outsourcing data to the Cloud computing requires rigorous techniques to deal with data confidentiality. Encryption is one of the most secure techniques in use. However, it remains weak against some indiscretions, and presents incompleteness in the measures offered to ensure confidentiality. New flaws appear, inducing confidential information disclosure, despite a secure and rigorous data encryption. In this article, we propose to enhance the level of confidentiality that may already be guaranteed for outsourced data. We are particularly interested in access control on the result of the search over encrypted data. The property behind this aspect of security is known as ACAS (Access Control Aware Search) principle. We present an approach which integrates the access control mechanism with data encryption in order to comply with ACAS. The used techniques are based on Searchable Encryption and Attribute Based Encryption methods. The proposed model has been evaluated based on data size and access control complexity.

This paper proposes a stuffed-toy device as an outlet target of a user's mental burden. When the user touches/hugs the stuffed toy, the script of the stuffed toy is post on an SNS, such as Twitter. We aim for an indirect and unforced communication among other participants in SNS through the scripts of a stuffed-toy device that shows sympathetic understanding during user's mood recognition.

Cloud computing is being used widely all over the world by many IT companies as it provides various benefits to the users like cost saving and ease of use. However, with the growing demands of users for computing services, cloud providers are encouraged to deploy large datacenters which consume very high amount of energy and also contribute to the increase in carbon dioxide emission in the environment. Therefore, we require to develop techniques which will help to get more environment friendly computing i.e. Green Cloud computing. In this paper, we propose a new technique to reduce the carbon emission and energy consumption in the distributed cloud datacenters having different energy sources and carbon footprint rates. Our approach uses the carbon footprint rate of the datacenters in distributed cloud architecture and the concept of virtual machine allocation and migration for reducing the carbon emission and energy consumption in the federated cloud system. Simulation results show that our proposed approach reduces the carbon dioxide emission and energy consumption of federated cloud datacenters as compared to the classical scheduling approach of round robin VM scheduling in federated cloud datacenters.

The distributed systems are highly fault prone environment to work with. Thus, fault tolerance is a major concern in distributed computing. The available failure resiliency techniques mitigate only the failures that are limited in some way. However, it is extremely difficult to limit the failures because the autonomous nodes may suffer autonomous failures. Nevertheless, in mission critical applications, the uncontrolled failures are unaffordable. Hence, it is highly desirable that the system survives such failures. The survivability of computer networks is a popular research topic. However, the survivability of computing systems has not been in focus. In this illustration, we have attempted to raise this issue and bring out certain requirements and features related to survivable computing systems. To the best of my knowledge, it is the first attempt in the direction.

Cross-layer models are becoming popular in various wireless networking domains due to their realistic predictions and for fundamental understanding of the interaction between adjacent networking layers. A combined PHY/MAC layer energy consumption model is considered here for short range ieee 802.15.4 networks for non-beacon-enable mode in case of dual hop transmission under Rayleigh fading channel. For both AF and DF relays this cross layer model is developed and a comparison of energy efficiency is done for this two type of relays. In particular, we focus on how the new model differs from single-layer models (either PHY or MAC) in terms of energy efficiency.

IT incident management aims to restore normal service quality and availability of IT systems from interruptions. IT incidents often have complicated causes aggregated from an IT environment composed of thousands of interdependent components. Incident diagnosis then requires collecting and analyzing a large scale of data regarding these components, often, in real time to find suspect causes. It is extremely difficult to fulfill this requirement using traditional techniques. In this paper, we propose a new analysis architecture using Big Data techniques. This architecture leverages stream computing and MapReduce techniques to analyze data from various data sources, uses NoSQL databases to store incident-related documents and their relationships, and further utilizes other analytical techniques to examine the documents for root causes and failure prediction. We demonstrate this approach using a real-world example and present evaluation results from a recent pilot study.

The cloud revolution has helped enterprises to improve their business and performance by providing them computing power, storage capabilities and a variety of services for very less or no infrastructure and reasonable cost. It also provisioned the scientific and academic communities to run complex applications involving large data sets, high performance or distributed resources. The Workflow Management Systems (WfMSs) help the enterprises in automation of their business processes and thus help the management to take critical decisions fast. Cloud Workflows club the advantages of both Cloud computing and WfMSs. In spite of the advantages of the cloud, security is a major area of concern. The use of WfMSs for critical and strategic applications, which is common in case of Business and Scientific community, gives rise to major concerns regarding the threats against integrity, authorization, availability etc. The concept of running secure workflow instances on public cloud processing platforms is still in its infancy. This paper gives an overview of workflow management systems, cloud computing, cloud workflows and security in these areas. This paper also provides a survey on security mechanisms for WfMSs and Cloud Workflows.

Cloud computing has been adopted as one of the growing technologies in the business and research community. However, due to significant client demands, there is a need to overflow some workloads to other data centers as no data center has unlimited resources. The workload sharing provides even more flexible and cheaper resources to complete the applications submitted to the data centers. However, scheduling workloads in multi-cloud environment is challenging as the data centers have resources which are heterogeneous in nature. In this paper, we propose a task scheduling algorithm in a heterogeneous multi-cloud environment. The algorithm is based on two popular algorithms namely, Min-Min and Max-Min. We perform extensive experiments on some benchmark and synthetic data sets and compare the results with two existing multi-cloud scheduling algorithms. The results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms both the algorithms in terms of makespan and average cloud utilization.

The aim of this work is to construct a predictive algorithm based on linguistic computation to predict Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and comorbid conditions. Most contemporary work in psychometrics, concerns itself with the construction and validation of instruments in an attempt to measure personality, attitudes, sentiment and beliefs. Measurement of these phenomena is difficult and largely subjective. We try to assign a numerical estimation to feeling expression according to one quantity relative to another. The model analyses natural language using the Mind State Indicator algorithm (MSI). MSI may be able to diagnose PTSD and specify differential diagnosis from comorbid disorders. Future work using this method could potentially predict PTSD symptom severity and treatment-related changes in these symptoms.

Resource scheduling is one of the key problems of cloud computing, no wonder, the scheduling policy and algorithm affect the performance of the cloud system directly. In order to improve the utilization of cloud computing resources and keep load balancing, a cloud computing resource scheduling algorithm based on estimation of distribution algorithm is proposed. In this algorithm, the idea of population based incremental learning(PBIL) algorithm is fully used. In this paper, cloud computing resource scheduling algorithm model is established firstly, and then objective solution is made by using the PBIL algorithm. Finally, the simulation analysis of algorithm performance is conducted. The simulation results show that the PBIL algorithm can take shorter time to complete task and achieve resource load balancing, especially, for the resource scheduling with large-scale task, the advantages are more apparent.
