The vast volume of complex, multidimensional data generated by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Ananya program to improve maternal, child, and integrated health in Bihar, India, compelled the program to develop a strong visual analytics system. This was necessary to synthesize information and enable Ananya's managers to visualize and interpret data to make effective and informed decisions. The visual analytics system embraces three applications-a GIS, a data visualization tool, and a program dashboard-that collectively depict program indicators, providing managers with current assessments of program progress and performance. While distinct in their roles and objectives, the applications are complementary in nature. The applications are in various stages of prototype development and upon deployment will become connected to the system through Ananya's GIS application. This is a unique strategy for the sustainability of the system. In addition to its novel sustainability plans, the system offers a one-of-its-kind application of geo-information technology to improve maternal and child health in Bihar and unique visualizations of program data to support decision making.

Nowadays, with the increased deployment of servers to facilitate high performance computing (HPC) for scientific and engineering applications lead to large consumption of energy. Cloud computing is a cost-effective solution, as it allows to host storage, computational and supported network services on a shared infrastructure of physical servers. However, the growing demand of cloud infrastructure among the IT companies is drastically increasing, by which data centers are drawing more energy. Energy efficient scheduling is one effective solution to streamline the resource usage as well as reduce the energy consumption. The proposed work in this paper demonstrates the resource allocation and makes an energy consumption analysis of Greedy, Round Robin and Power Aware Best Fit Decreasing (PABFD) scheduling algorithms on a private academic cloud. This paper provides an insight into the working of different scheduling scenarios for cloud computing and demonstrates the potential for the improvement of energy efficiency of PABFD algorithm under academic workload.

Near Field Communication (NFC) is an emerging wireless short-range communication technology innovation that is based on existing standards of the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) infrastructure. In this paper we give an overview of NFC technology and discuss its adaptation worldwide. We then focus on the current trends and application of NFC technology in India. Both existing NFC applications and some conceivable future situations are analyzed in this connection. Furthermore, security concerns, difficulties and present conflicts are also discussed.

The paper aims to bring together researchers and domain experts involved in developing and utilizing methods for knowledge extraction from massive amounts of data from moving objects. Technologies for object tracking are low cost and increasingly reliable in terms of coverage and accuracy;hence movement records are nowadays generated in huge volumes on a routine basis, using diverse technologies such as radio frequency mapping, Global Navigation Satellite Systems, video sequences and Doppler radar. The computational analysis of movement data has seen a successful first decade with progress made in capturing, preprocessing, storing, indexing and querying movement data, combined with promising results in visualizing movement and detecting movement patterns. In many application fields, such as animal monitoring, transportation, or epidemiology, the need for analyzing large sets of trajectories is evident and crucial;however, only very rudimentary automated analysis tools are available and more advanced analyses are carried out manually. Thus the analysis part has been neglected and in comparison with the image processing part it is technologically far behind in the development. A reason for this is a lack of theoretical and practical solutions for many crucial fundamental problems

Collaborative autonomous vehicles will appear in the near future and will transform deeply road transportation systems, addressing in part many issues such as safety, traffic efficiency, etc. Validation and testing of complex scenarios involving sets of autonomous collaborative vehicles are becoming an important challenge. Each vehicle in the set is autonomous and acts asynchronously, receiving and processing huge amount of data in real time, coming from the environment and other vehicles. Simulation of such scenarios in real time require huge computing resources. This poster presents a simulation platform combining the real-time OPAL-RT Technologies for processing and parallel computing, and the Pro-SiVIC vehicular simulator from Civitec for realistic simulation of vehicles dynamic, road/environment, and sensors behaviors. The two platforms are complementary and their combining allow us to propose a real time simulator of collaborative autonomous systems.

In the era of rampant adoption of information technology and social networking, data generation is rapidly outpacing data storage resources. Cloud computing has emerged as cost effective, flexible and scalable alternate to address issue of increasing resource requirements. Though the advantages offered by such services appear attractive, there are certain inherent challenges related to trust and data security. Ensuring data integrity and retrievability of data in cloud is one such challenge. Proof of retrievability (POR) concept tries to establish assurance for cloud customer regarding correctness and completeness of their data. In this paper, we evaluate an already existing POR scheme and propose a new crypto based scheme which helps in reducing the amount of computation and storage at cloud customer side while establishing POR. In our scheme client is not required to store any large set of data locally except a secret key which is required for encryption. Compare to previous scheme, we also avoid the necessity of encrypting entire data at client side, thereby saving client computational resources. The proposed scheme is relevant for large static data such as video files, audio files and social networking data etc.

Cloud-enabled wireless industrial sensor networks is an emerging paradigm in machine-type communication. It supports "device-centric" architectures that efficiently exploit intelligence at field device side replacing Host-centric architectures to handle critical condition. In this paper we propose a flexible architecture for integrating a self-contained network-embedded cloud system (Wireless Cloud Network, WCN) with a wireless industrial network infrastructure implementing the Time Synchronized Channel Hopping (TSCH) as supported by commercial WirelessHART systems. The WCN acts as a small-cell embedded network consisting of devices that gather and process pervasive information about the state of the industrial plant. Devices member of the cloud support advanced communication services and enable early and localized detection of dangerous conditions. In addition, they act as data processing centers distributed at the edge of the TSCH network. A hardware and software architecture is developed and tailored for WirelessHART (IEC 62591) protocol while preliminary experimental measurements are also carried out to evaluate the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed system.

Today, Enterprises act in an increasingly interconnected world and in different kinds of collaborative networks. They are part of business ecosystems in which they interact with their customers, partners and competitors. The processes of analyzing and planning the intertwinement of business and IT architecture within enterprises has been successfully supported by enterprise architecture management (EAM) approaches. In this paper, we analyze four cases from different industries (health care, logistics, retail, and education) and argue that the intra-organizational concepts of enterprise architectures (EA) and EAM need to be extended to grasp the challenges of the enterprises' interconnectedness. Beyond the known concepts of extended enterprise architecture and federated architectures, we define five stages of extended architectures. Additionally, we describe challenges and existing solutions, which are relevant for this extended perspective. © 2014 ieee.

Big Data technology is becoming ubiquitous and depicting key attention of researchers in almost all areas. VANET is a special form of MANET that uses vehicles as nodes in a network. By applying Big Data technologies to Vehicular Adhoc Network (VANET), one can gain useful insight from a huge amount of operational data, to improve traffic management processes such as planning, engineering and operations. VANETs access large data during the real time operations. In this paper we map VANET characteristics to Big Data attributes stated in literature. Further, we evaluate the performance of Dijkstra algorithm used for routing in vehicular networks on Hadoop Map Reduce standalone distributed framework as well as on multi node cluster with 2, 3, 4 and 5 nodes respectively. The results obtained confirm that increasing the number of nodes in Hadoop framework, processing time for the algorithm is greatly reduced.

Cloud computing changed the way of computing as utility services offered through public network. The adoption of cloud computing services has gained the momentum over these years, due to the agility and cost associated for accessing computational services over traditional one. The cloud providers offer similar services with nonlinear pricing to differentiate the services and to cater the various consumer market segments. This paper investigates different tariff of cloud service: usage based, flat rate, two part tariff, three part tariff with allowance and freemium. In particular, the cloud service tariff evaluation and choice models have been reviewed and the selection of optimal cloud pricing plan methodology for consumers is proposed.
