In all branches of engineering, computational work/simulation is currently seen as the third vertex of a triangle, complementing observation and theory. This requirement necessitates an engineering student to know computational concepts as well as a whole new language to express these concepts. These are challenging tasks and students might face difficulties in learning the finer details of the language. It is essential to make computing skill an integral part of engineering education and not treat it as an add on. This paper attempts a review of the current approaches to teaching computation skills to engineering students of core engineering branches. It identifies the need for teaching this skill, the components of this skill and the available choices of programming languages to teach this skill. It suggests the adoption of Python as the preferred language to teach computation by comparing its merits and demerits vis-a-vis the other available choices. It is imperative to do a complete rethinking on how engineering education approaches computation skill and arrive at a holistic and integrated approach.

Rapid development in mobile technologies, 3D printing and social networks has paved the way for the new phenomenon called Social manufacturing. Social manufacturing represents a paradigm shift in traditional manufacturing models;in social manufacturing, the role of customers changes from being passive to being fully active agents in the manufacturing of products. This shift allows for the opportunity to produce customized products according to the needs of every single customer in the society. The demand of consumers in the apparel industry is rapidly changing to becoming more personalized. Consequently, social manufacturing can dramatically contribute to customization in the apparel industry through the help of 3D printing. Cloud computing is a service oriented concept which offers everything as a service. These services are deployed at the server with necessary credentials in order to provide reliable services to the customer. The customer always wants to process and store the data in the cloud with an efficient access over different location. The security is the key parameter to secure the customer's data. The cloud computing security issues are addressed in various standards and techniques which lacks in providing a complete solution. The privacy issues in the cloud access are handled and assessed by using privacy protocols and assessment techniques which are also addressed. The trust issues in cloud computing has been addressed with different models. An inter-cloud and intra-cloud standard of cloud interoperability has been identified in order to highlight the challenges exist during the cloud interaction. The cloud resources are deployed over cloud environment with different models also faces a problem. This paper focuses on a recent survey related to the cloud interoperability, security, privacy and trust based on standards and guidelines have been analyzed. The overall focus on this paper is to establish an interoperability among different cloud service providers for effective interaction by maximizing the QoS of cloud computing.

With the state-of-the-art developments in wireless communication and internet technology and advances in the miniaturization of electronics, the recent trend in research has been to progressively embed computers and communication in various everyday objects. The ubiquitous availability of internet imparts computing and communication power to objects by adding small silicon chips to them and this paradigm of pervasive computing is transforming conventionally designed vehicles into smart vehicles. In this paper we present novel swarm intelligence based vehicle parking system that exploits the concept of context awareness and wireless communication capabilities in smart vehicles. The parking zones are assigned with web based features using pervasive computing, wireless enabled infrastructure and smart chips. The parking details become available on the internet, and can be communicated to the vehicle searching for a parking space. In case of multiple available parking spaces, the shortest route to the nearest parking is calculated using particle swarm optimization algorithm and is informed to the vehicle driver. Mounting micro sensors and wireless sensors on these vehicles enables them to gather knowledge about their environment, perceive the surroundings and to reason based on the context. Partial automating of the driving task by intelligent location of vacant parking space would enhance the drivers' driving knowledge and capabilities, leading to more efficient, safer and environment-friendly driving conditions and savings in fuel expenditure. The system is proposed to be implemented in Network Simulator-3. The objective of this paper is to contribute towards developing suitable safety and comfort measures for road transport where drivers, smart vehicles and road-side infrastructure work in collaboration using the available context information.

To fulfil the objective of changing "accident handling, postmortem prevention" to "intrinsic safety, advance prevention" in chemical industry, this paper covers research to develop a process safety management system (PSMS). First of all, the method is proposed based on the survey, which pointed that it is an essential way to take full advantages of accidents information to enhance process safety management. Secondly, the key functions of PSMS are detailed and the needs for accident database are demanded. The defects of chemical database existing were concluded through literature review. Thirdly, the outline design of PSMS chemical accident database is presented. The work can provide some theoretical and practical reference for the study and development of the process safety management system. © 2014 ieee.

While mobile services are maturing in the Mobile computing world, location services have started mushrooming in every day work which are making good impact for humans as well as all moving resources. With this development, serious threat of location privacy has emerged and becoming inevitable part of this kind of services. Present systems do not have concrete answer of location privacy because of absence of robust technology, poor governance and business interest. Modern ways need to be practiced, including Cryptography, Collaborative, Distributed and internationally legal governance protocols. There are dozens of cloaking methods such as dummy users, K-Anonymity, false location queries, dummy queries, cryptography protocols, etc., however no commercial LBS systems guarantees the location privacy. In this paper, we have studied drawbacks of existing techniques. We have proposed either modification or novel methods to protect location privacy. Moreover we have suggested to analyse privacy strength, energy consumption, and accuracy of services, overhead cost such as computing and communication cost.

Speech corpora are vital resource in development and evaluation of automatic speech recognition systems, as well as for acoustic phonetic studies. Collecting a huge corpus is not an easy task. The lack of such resources is one of the reasons for the absence of good quality speech recognition systems in Indian languages. Here we have automated such process by developing web based tool for collecting broad band speech data and an IVR system with speech recognition for collecting narrow band speech data. The main features includes the full support for the typical recording, annotation and project administration workflow, easy editing of the speech content, with an advantage of a fully localizable user interface. This paper describes in detail the development of web based speech collection tool and an IVR system which will enable end-to-end building of speech corpus with minimum manual effort. © 2014 ieee.

In recent years, the research on the resources sharing has made great progress in education area. The platform will offer a new solution for Basic Education Resources Sharing, which can save human, material and financial resources on repetition development and provide more high quality learning resources and references for teachers and students. The platform will also promote the integration of information technology with curricula and improve the imbalanced education development and gradually elevate the overall quality of education.

Content Distribution Networks are mandatory components of modern web architectures, with plenty of vendors offering their services. Despite its maturity, new paradigms and architecture models are still being developed in this area. Cloud computing, on the other hand, is a more recent concept which has expanded extremely quickly, with new services being regularly added to cloud management software suites such as OpenStack. The main contribution of this paper is the architecture and the development of an open source CDN that can be provisioned in an on-demand, pay-as-you-go model thereby enabling the CDN as a Service paradigm. We describe our experience with integration of CDNaaS framework in a cloud environment, as a service for enterprise users. We emphasize the flexibility and elasticity of such a model, with each CDN instance being delivered on-demand and associated to personalized caching policies as well as an optimized choice of Points of Presence based on exact requirements of an enterprise customer. Our development is based on the framework developed in the Mobile Cloud Networking (MCN) EU FP7 project, which offers its enterprise users a common framework to instantiate and control services. CDNaaS is one of the core support components in this project as is tasked to deliver different type of multimedia content to several thousands of users geographically distributed. It integrates seamlessly in the MCN service life-cycle and as such enjoys all benefits of a common design environment, allowing for an improved interoperability with the rest of the services within the MCN ecosystem.
