A key obstacle to developing automated histopathology assessment tools is the difficulty of defining quantifiable image features that could serve as fundamental data elements capable of distinguishing key disease types and subtypes. A variety of feature extraction and selection methods for histology images have been proposed. However, comparisons of different feature descriptor approaches remains challenging because of varying datasets and emphases chosen by different authors. As an example of how a shared reference atlas could accelerate efforts in this area. In this study, we constructed normal and disease sample datasets by standardizing histology images employed from Allen Brain Atlas. After preparing the datasets, we extracted features mentioned in the preceding studies from the datasets to characterize normal and disease tissues. To confirm statistical significance between the normal and disease images, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was employed. The experimental results indicated that topological features are effective to distinguish the normal images from the disease ones. This paper also shows the details of construction of the datasets, segmentation of nuclei, feature descriptors and the experimental results. We discuss the effectiveness and generalizability of derived features.

Applications such as fleet management and logistics, emergency response, public security and surveillance or mobile workforce management use geo-positioning and mobile networks as means of enabling real-time monitoring, communication and collaboration among a possibly large set of mobile nodes. The majority of those systems require real-time tracking of mobile nodes (e.g. vehicles, people or mobile robots), reliable communication to/from the nodes, as well as group communication among the mobile nodes. In this paper we describe a distributed middleware with focus on management of context-defined groups of mobile nodes, and group communication with large sets of nodes. We also present a prototype Fleet Tracking and Management system based on our middleware, give an example of how context-specific group communication can enhance the node's mutual awareness, and show initial performance results that indicate small overhead and latency of the group communication and management. © 2014 ieee.

In the last few years semantic aspects earned more and more interest and have ever more applications. Ontologies and semantic frameworks are started applied more fields than we could imagine. Nowadays, when Future Internet and Internet of Things (IoT) research became an integral part of the rise of computing, we need to react to new challenges utilizing these aspects. Our University is not an exception, it is a perfect place to study and apply these possibilities. Furthermore, a new computing concept has appeared which had a vision where computing is made to appear everywhere and anywhere. These technological advancements made possible to collect and process a wide range of data. Several ideas are applied at our University Campus where we established a framework which could provide value-added services for various people living or working on the Campus. The main goals of our project - inside the Future Internet field - are twofold. First, establishing an intelligent platform as an extensible architecture which is used to drive the central part (as we call Smart Campus Central Intelligence- SCCI) through an extensible and open interface with data. That data is used not only for data analysis but recommendations as well. Second, the interface should be open for the crowd to made available crowdsourcing inside the system for creating new services. This paper highlights our applied usage scenarios and our vision where we could continue. © 2014 ieee.

In this paper the implementation of RBF online learning algorithm on the Schneider Electric Quantum programmable automation controllers is proposed. Online recursive mean square algorithm with different modifications is proposed for neural network parameter identification. All matrix operations, functions, algorithms and neural network general structure are programmed in the Structured Text programming language in Unity Pro XL software. The proposed method and software implementation is verified on virtual hydraulic system with parameter identification and level control. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2014.

The gradual increase of cancer cases worldwide has been posing a need on the use of computing resources to accurately retrieve the information recorded in databases. One can highlight the retrieved information importance from a specialist in order to better evaluate pathological response and predict the cancer patient prognosis. This paper presents a way to represent knowledge of cancer registries with emphasis on prognosis. It makes use data mining techniques to find patterns in data stored for patient's lifetime in similar situations. The work is focused on the generation of association rules to find patterns on these registries in order to measure the patient prognosis and drive healthcare experts conclusions. A validation against international oncology organizations and health publications was also made to ensure data and work reliability.

In this paper we have addressed a major problem in current day data centers- power consumption. Power consumption in data centers has become a major problem these days, both from economic and environmental perspective. Various factors affect the power consumption, one of them being the scheduling of tasks on the data center servers. Basically we achieved a real-time simulation of two cloud scheduling algorithms and compared the power efficiency of the two algorithms in terms of two main temperature parameters of the servers-idle temperature and critical temperature. We assumed that we were given all the task parameters such as running time etc. and then we calculated a final temperature that a system will reach on running that particular task. Then we decided which system could accommodate that task based on that systems critical temperature and chose the best system among those based on a score proposed in the paper.

Memory protection mechanisms have become important in embedded systems because programs are becoming larger and more complex, and the failure of one program can corrupt other programs. In order to isolate failures and to prevent the failure of one program from propagating throughout the system, memory protection is required. Recently, memory protection is also required in safety-critical embedded systems. In embedded systems, the memory protection mechanisms are used the memory management unit (MMU) function in a CPU. However, the overhead cost of system calls to the OS is very large because the system calls are implemented by a software trap, which decreases the system performance. The goal of the present study is to provide a lightweight memory protection mechanism in the privilege memory space in order to protect a real-time OS from unintended behaviors of application programs in the privilege memory space. An application program in the privilege level in an embedded system, which is accessible to registers in peripheral devices and can execute privilege instructions for the embedded system, is crucial. We design and implement the light memory protection mechanism in the privilege memory space in real-time OS using MMU in ARM processor. We show that our memory protection mechanism is effective in a real application because of very small increase of execution time. © 2014 ieee.

One of the biggest challenges in doing word lookups is to derive the appropriate base word for any given word in Bengali. The basic concept to the solution of the problem is to eliminate inflections from a given word to derive its stem word. Stemmers attempt to reduce a word to its root form using stemming process, which reduces an inflected or derived word to its stem or root form. Existing works in the literature use lookup tables either for stem words or suffixes, increasing the overheads in terms of memory and time. This paper develops a rule-based algorithm that eliminates inflections stepwise without continuously searching for the desired root in the dictionary. To the best of our knowledge, this paper first investigates that, in Bengali morphology, for a large set of inflections, the stems can be computed algorithmically cutting down the inflections step by step. The proposed algorithm is independent of inflected word lengths and our evaluation shows around 88% accuracy. © 2014 ieee.

This paper mainly brings out the details related to a prototype biodiversity information retrieval system that has been setup using the distributed Grid-Cloud resources of GARUDA Grid project, India. The overall experiment has been done with the help of open source biodiversity databases. The structure of these relational database tables are not standardized and are hosted on a variety of Database Management Systems (DBMS) at different Virtual Machines (VMs) which in general been assumed as geographically distributed. The front end of the end user system is an HTML interface which captures and redirects the user query to the application engine which has been built using python and made functional in master grid node. According to the received input, the python program interprets the data and generates a query in the Structured Query Language (SQL). This generated query is sent to the distributed remote database servers which channelizes to the local DBMS of the cloud's virtual machine and executes the SQL query. The end results are retrieved back by the master grid application engine and been displayed in a new HTML page. © 2014 ieee.
