We propose in this paper a novel example-based method for Gaussian denoising of CT images. In the proposed method, denoising is performed with the help of a set of example CT images. We construct, from the example images, a database consisting of high and low-frequency patch pairs and then use the Markov random field to denoise. The proposed denoising method can restore the high-frequency band that is often lost by the traditional noise-filters. Moreover, it is very effective for images corrupted by heavy noise. Experimental results also show that the proposed method outperforms other state-of-the-art denoising methods both in the objective and subjective evaluations. © 2014 ieee.

Visual knowledge maps utilizing concepts have great potential to support interactive information retrieval. Unlike keyword-based visual information retrieval, concept-based knowledge maps can make the visualization easier to comprehend and manipulate. In this paper, we introduce our novel visual search interface based on Dewey Decimal Classification concept annotations. The web browser based interface visualizes search results initialized from user queries. Main functions of the interface include interactive manipulation, exploration, and filtering of concepts and links in different levels from overview to details. The visualization connects related concepts not apparent in conventional treelike hierarchical representations and it can promote discovery of novel concepts during the visual exploration of search space. A real use-case scenario is presented to highlight the advantages of the approach.

Cloud computing has the advantage that it offers companies unlimited data storage at attractive costs. However, it also introduces new challenges for protecting the confidentiality of the data, and the access to the data. Sensitive data like medical records, business or governmental data cannot be stored unencrypted on the cloud. Moreover, they can be of interest to many users and different policies could apply to each. Companies need new mechanisms to query the encrypted data without revealing anything to the cloud server, and to enforce access policies to the data. Current security schemes do not allow complex encrypted queries over encrypted data in a multi-user setting. Instead, they are limited to keyword searches. Moreover, current solutions assume that all users have the same access rights to the data. This paper shows the implementation of a scheme that allows making SQL-like queries on encrypted databases in a multi-user setting, while at the same time allowing the database owner to assign different access rights to users. we address these issues by combining cloud computing technologies and Attribute Based Encryption for Secure storage and efficient retrieval of Data from the Databases. Here the Attribute is the Frequent access Node in the database which can be Encrypted for Secure Storage and Retrieval. Using database encryption to protect data in some situations where access control is not solely enough is inevitable. Database encryption provides an additional layer of protection to conventional access control techniques. It prevents unauthorized users, including intruders breaking into a network, from viewing the sensitive data. As a result data keeps protected even in the incident that database is successfully attacked or stolen. However, data encryption and decryption process result in database performance degradation. In the situation where all the information is stored in encrypted form, one cannot make the selection on the database content any more

This paper discusses an Lab Intelligent management system, which implements two kernel functions of lab management: Lab Booking System and Experimental Projects Management System. Learners can understand the experimental system for each specialty in our university through the Experimental Projects Management System. They can also choose the experimental projects that they are interested in, and access to the experimental instructions. After they obtaining the experimental environment through the Lab Booking System, learners with appointment can study through Internet or in the agreed lab at the appointed time. When learners finished their study, they will submit the study results to the file server. Learners can see the evaluation and feedback through the network, after the teacher marked their submitted jobs. Teachers can create an experimental environment for learners and optimization, and guide learners to relevant R&D work. Managers can view the experimental progress, reports and the performance analysis through Internet.

Global challenges and technology advancements have driven researchers and professionals to demand new tools for solving complex problems in terms of massive data exploitation. This paper describes a system that offers 3D visualisation of data with spatial interest regarding the management of water resources. The Software as a Service (SaaS) delivery is instrumented by a hybrid cloud implementation. A public cloud is used for a web service that accommodates the database system and the network traffic load provisioning, whilst a private cloud serves the rest of the web service, along with a custom metering service regarding the hybrid cloud's overall performance. In the context of this work, the geospatial data are exploited similarly to those which will be offered by governmental authorities in Greece conforming to European and National Laws and provide Web Mapping Services through open-access data repositories. Since these data storage solutions are still in an on-going progress, this paper works with private data gathered from professionals in the field of Earth Sciences. The resulted service provides seamless access to the geospatial data which are presented in a 3D web platform.

This paper presents a cloud infrastructure that allows users to create mobile applications to collect and visualize data. In this paper we are concerned with stakeholders' participation in the development of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for health facilities in Malawi, Africa. We draw on insights gained during the process of an Action Research project, which involved different stakeholders. We examine the different roles and forms of participation of these stakeholders. Through this, we illustrate how participation changes over time and co-evolves with the progress of the project. Our analysis also reveals that, in rural low-resource settings, expected endusers of EMR systems do not always have the health domain knowledge or expertise to effectively participate in such design projects. Therefore, participation of managers and other health domain experts is essential in order to supplement users' limited specialized knowledge of the domain. Copyright 2014 ACM.

In this paper, we use hypergraph model to predict the stock trends. Sometimes, it is hard to know what a certain stock will do tomorrow. But here we make each stock as a vertex of a hypergraph and the relations, going up or down of stocks, are abstracted as hyperedges. If some stocks have the same actions, going up or down together, during k days, we can build a hyperedge among these stocks. According to the actions of stocks in the last several months, the hypergraph for these stocks is established. Furthermore, the problem of stocks trends prediction is translated into the clustering of the hypergraph. The stocks in the same cluster set always have the same trends. Then the trend of one stock can be predicted by the rest stocks in the same set. And, of course, what the stock did during the last several days should be also taken into account for the prediction. In order to get an accurate prediction, we set a new optimization index for the segmentation of a hypergraph, which is called modularity. Through the definition of modularity, it is not necessary for us to preset the partitioning number any more. When the modularity is immediately below the critical value, the partitioning is stopped automatically. Experiment result shows that our proposed scheme achieves fine stock trend prediction.

The emergence of patient-centered eHealth systems introduces new challenges, where patients come to play an increasingly important role. Realizing the promises requires an in-depth understanding of not only the technology, but also the needs of both clinicians and patients. However, insights from medical phenomenology bring forth how physicians and patients focus on different aspects of illness and that they often have starkly divergent concerns. This has important implications for the design of eHealth systems that seek to engage patients as active participants. We emphasize the crucial importance of acknowledging these fundamental differences between patients' and physicians' everyday projects and we illustrate it by three case examples from a participatory design project of constructing a personal health record for chronic heart patients and their clinicians. We summarize our suggestion as a design rationale for successful eHealth, termed 'alignment of concerns'.

The Decision Making is present in every activity of the human world, as in simple day-by-day problems, as in complex situations inside of an organization. In the human world, emotions and reasons become hard to separate;therefore, Decision Support Systems (DSS) were created to help decision makers to take complex decisions. The paper presents the development of a new tool, called OrclassWeb, which reproduces the procedure to apply the Verbal Decision Analysis (VDA) Methodology ORCLASS that supports the process of the mentioned DSS method. © 2014 Springer international Publishing Switzerland.
