Congenital tracheal stenosis (CTS) has a high clinical mortality in neonates and infants. Although the procedure of slide tracheoplasty (STP) applied over the years, it is still a challenge for clinicians to predict the surgical timing of the CTS correction. In the present study, we studied on three-dimensional (3D) aerodynamic analysis of an original tracheal model from a specific patient with CTS and bridging bronchus (BB) and four new reconstructed models. We constructed a 3D patient-specific tracheal model based on CT images and applied computer-aided design (CAD) to reconstruct four models to imitate the stenosis development of CTS. Average pressure drop (APD), wall shear stress (WSS) and velocity streamlines were calculated to analyze local aerodynamic characteristics for the evaluation of airflow at the inspiration phase and expiration phase, respectively. We found APD, WSS and AEL decreased during the respiration with the decrease of stenosis. Three abnormal gradients in APD were observed between the main stenosis of trachea arrived at 80% and 60%. This implied the surgical correction may be required when the main stenosis reached 60%. The combination of CAD and aerodynamic analysis is a potential noninvasive tool for surgical timing prediction in the management of patient-specific correction of CTS.

The necessity of making a system robust to the uncertainties of the different measures taken from the computing infrastructure is one of the Grid Computing research challenges. In particular, taking relevant information to tasks scheduling from a set of heterogeneous sources and dynamic behavior has been the focus of a significant number of studies. Considering this background, this paper aims to approach a module for task scheduling in Grid Computing, using a taken decision system under uncertainty regime. The proposed module uses the fuzzy logic, called fGrid, to treat uncertainties. Simulations were carried out using the SimGrid framework and modeling GridRS architecture. In addition to the presented results, the a standard scale use with linguistic variation makes both the manipulation of the priority list as the scheduling easier, which contributes to maintainability.

In the area of linguistic descriptions of data, one of the most important problems is that of referring expression generation. A referring expression is a noun phrase intended to univocally identify a prespecified object. The referential success of a referring expression can be defined as the extent to which the set of objects (possibility distribution) satisfying the referring expression is a singleton containing the intended object. In this paper we provide a formal framework for measuring referential success of referring expressions with fuzzy features. We provide properties to be satisfied by any measure of referential success, and we make a preliminary study of the relationship between referential success and specificity, particularly by proposing a family of measures of referential success based on specificity measures.

In the paper, a city educational resources assignment problem (CERAP) is raised. The combination of big data, multi-agent model and cellular automata (CA) methodologies are argued and developed. Then, the agent-based computational framework is discussed to the educational social science control (assignment) system. The proposed methodologies provides a powerful way to address nonlinearities, humanities, and especially interdisciplinary control problem. Agent-based modeling offers powerful new forms of hybrid theoretical-computational work. The agent-based approach invites the interpretation of society as a distributed computational network, and in turn the interpretation of social dynamics as a type of computation. Then, the simulation tools are mentioned. Finally, a short discussion and conclusion end this paper.

The coexistence of various protocols for current network equipment leads to extremely complex network systems, which not only limit the development of network technologies, but also cannot meet the growing demands for cloud computing, big data, and service visualization applications, just to name a few. As a new network architecture, parallel networks are expected to revolutionize this situation and meet the evolving demands for network services. The main idea of a parallel network is to leverage upon software-defined networking to construct artificial networks, and then effectively optimize the network system operations via the interactions between actual and artificial networks. The foundation of the parallel network is the theory of ACP, composed of artificial societies, computational experiments, and parallel execution. By the computational experiments and analysis of the artificial network, a control strategy based on network traffic flow can be continuously updated and tracked on a real-time basis;meanwhile, the collected operating status of the actual network can also be used to optimize the model of the artificial network. These strategies can be applied to all types of network equipment to control network operations at various levels;thus, it is possible to allocate the network resources more effectively, improve the management and utilization of resources, and then provide new network solutions to effectively address the constantly evolving network demands for network performance, scalability, and security.

With the increase of machine learning scalability, there is a growing need for distributed systems which can execute machine learning algorithms on large clusters. Currently, most distributed machine learning systems are developed based on iterative optimization algorithm and parameter server framework. However, most systems compute on all samples in every iteration and this method consumes too much computing resources since the amount of samples is always too large. In this paper, we study on the sample diversity and find that most samples contribute little to model updating during most iterations. Based on these findings, we propose a new iterative optimization algorithm to reduce the computation load by reusing the iterative computing results. The experiment demonstrates that, compared to the current methods, the algorithm proposed in this paper can reduce about 23% of the whole computation load without increasing of communications.

This paper introduces new online tools to create fuzzy color spaces and share them with researchers in computational color modeling. Fuzzy color spaces, which are able to fill the semantic gap between the color representation in computers and the subjective human perception, are built according to an approach proposed by the authors in previous works. The methodology for building fuzzy color spaces is based on the paradigm of conceptual spaces including fuzzy boundaries, and considering a collection of color names and corresponding crisp color representatives. In this sense, existing color naming systems in the literature, providing a crisp representative color for each color term, can be employed for building fuzzy color spaces automatically. The fuzzy color spaces are stored in files with a specific format which can be used in JFCS (Java Fuzzy Color Space), a Java open source software for modeling colors developed by the authors. In addition, color naming systems represented in files with a specific format (representative color value and a name for each color term) are also created with these tools. The proposed tools, which are integrated into the website associated to JFCS, enable a functional common repository of fuzzy color spaces as a sharing point to researchers in color modeling.

Visual textures in images are usually described by humans using linguistic terms related to their perceptual properties, like "very coarse", "low directional", or "high contrasted". However, the presence of these properties in images is very difficult to characterize due to their imprecision, and, moreover, because their perception may change depending on the user. In this paper, we propose an adaptive fuzzy approach for texture modelling, that allows to describe it in natural language, and takes into account the subjectivity of the human perception. For this purpose, a methodology in two phases has been proposed. First, non-adaptive fuzzy partitions, that represent the average human perception about the presence of the texture properties, are obtained. For this modelling, a perception-based fuzzy technique have been used. In a second phase, the obtained fuzzy sets are adapted in order to model the particular perception that a user may have. For this purpose, the membership functions are automatically transformed on the basic of the information given by the user to represent his perception. © 2016 ieee.

Most researches to SRL focus on English. It is still a challenge to improve the SRL performance of other language. In this paper, we introduce a two-pass approach to do Chinese SRL with a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) model. We use English Proposition Bank (EPB) to improve the performance of Chinese SRL. Experimental result shows a significant improvement over the state-of-the-art methods on Chinese Proposition Bank (CPB), which reaches 78.39% F1 score. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.
