In this paper, we propose a neural graph-based dependency parsing model which utilizes hierarchical LSTM networks on character level and word level to learn word representations, allowing our model to avoid the problem of limited-vocabulary and capture both distributional and compositional semantic information. Our model achieves state-ofthe- art accuracy on Chinese Penn Treebank and competitive accuracy on English Penn Treebank with only first-order features. Moreover, our model shows effectiveness in recovering dependencies involving out-ofvocabulary words. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

The prevention of hypertension is one of the most important topics in health research. In the most of the previous studies used statistical methods for analyzing the association between hypertension prevalence and dietary. However, statistical methods have some limitation which are, it is difficult to interpret variables interaction at a time. Thus we apply the data mining techniques for generation of prognosis factors based on association rule mining. In our experiment, we conducted Korean National Health and Nutrient Examination Survey (KNHANES) data from 2007 to 2014. We used to filter-based feature selection method for find prognosis factors and we generate the rules based on discovered risk factors of prognosis in hypertension. We evaluated discovered rules by support and confidence. In the results shows that, we can find useful rules for prognosis of hypertension. We expected to support medical decision making and easy to interpret prognosis of hypertension.

Recognizing Textual Entailment (RTE) plays an important role in NLP applications like question answering, information retrieval, etc. Most previous works either use classifiers to employ elaborately designed features and lexical similarity or bring distant supervision and reasoning technique into RTE task. However, these approaches are hard to generalize due to the complexity of feature engineering and are prone to cascading errors and data sparsity problems. For alleviating the above problems, some work use LSTM-based recurrent neural network with word-by-word attention to recognize textual entailment. Nevertheless, these work did not make full use of knowledge base (KB) to help reasoning. In this paper, we propose a deep neural network architecture called Multi-task Knowledge Assisted LSTM (MKAL), which aims to conduct implicit inference with the assistant of KB and use predicate-topredicate attention to detect the entailment between predicates. In addition, our model applies a multi-task architecture to further improve the performance. The experimental results show that our proposed method achieves a competitive result compared to the previous work. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

Human geography is a concept used to indicate the augmentation of standard geographic layers of information about an area with behavioral variations of the people in the area. In particular, the actions of people can be attributed to both local and regional variations in physical (i.e., terrain) and human (e.g., income, political, cultural) variables. In this paper, we study the utility of a human geographic data cube coupled with computational intelligence as a means to predict conditions across a geographic area. This becomes a big data problem. In this sense, we are using genotype information to predict phenotype states. We demonstrate the approach on the prediction of medically underserved areas in Missouri.

Many computational and systems biology challenges, in particular those related to big data analysis, can be formulated as optimization problems and therefore can be addressed using heuristics. Beside the typical optimization problems, formulated with respect to a single target, the possibility of optimizing multiple objectives (MO) is rapidly becoming more appealing. In this context, MO Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEAs) are one of the most widely used classes of methods to solve MO optimization problems. However, these methods can be particularly demanding from the computational point of view and, therefore, effective parallel implementations are needed. This fact, together with the wide diffusion of powerful and low-cost general-purpose Graphics Processing Units, promoted the development of software tools that focus on the parallelization of one or more computational phases among the steps characterizing MOEAs. In this paper we present a fine-grained parallelization of the Fast Non-dominating Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II) for the CUDA architecture. In particular, we will discuss how this solution can be exploited to solve multi-objective optimization task in the field of computational and systems biology.

To react to the drastic developments in big data, the ieee computational intelligence Society (ieee CIS) has taken several measures, including setting up the First ieee symposium on computational intelligence in big data, which is going to be held within the SSCI 2014 in December 2014 in Florida, USA, and revising the name of the Technical Committee on data Mining to expand its scope to cover big data Analytics. This special issue of the ieee computational intelligence Magazine is one in a series of reactions of the ieee CIS to the boom in big data Analytics research that aims to publish selected research articles presenting most recent advances and discussing challenges and opportunities in the application of CI techniques to big data. After a peer-review procedure, two papers have been selected from 12 manuscripts submitted to the Special Issue to be present in this Special Issue, representing the highest quality work on CI techniques in understanding big data challenges. Both papers are briefly summarized. Both papers are of review nature discussing the opportunities and promises of CI techniques along with challenges. They have raised more questions than answers, which is actually the aim of this Special Issue to trigger a wider range of interests in the CI community.
