This study focuses on a corpus of 1, 585 journal papers related to physical education from the CNKI database, uses CiteSpace software to perform an in-depth analysis of data associated with physical education research. By constructing a knowledge graph, the study systematically categorizes information on the volume of published papers of physical education research in China, their provincial distribution, and the main journals that publish such studies, presenting a comprehensive overview of the prolific institutions, authors, and collaborations. This approach provides substantial data support for gaining a deeper understanding of the current state of physical education research in China. The findings reveal that the annual number of published journal papers in this field has generally maintained a stable upward trend. The provincial distribution of contributing institutions is dominated by regions such as Jiangsu and Hunan, with the main journals that carry these papers also concentrated in these regions. The most prolific institutions and authors are mainly composed of sports universities and their faculty members. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

What limits most the use of low-cost underwater unmanned vehicles is the lack of affordable and low-power acoustic modems and positioning systems able to provide satisfactory performance, such as accurate distance measurement, a transmission range of at least several hundred meters, and a data rate of a few kilobits per second. In fact, although low-cost modems are now available in the market, they usually provide a data rate of only a few hundred bits per second and may not be able to adapt their communication parameters such as modulation and coding schemes nor perform complex tasks such as One-Way Travel-Time (OWTT) ranging or online data collection and processing from attached sensors. In contrast, the Subsea underwater acoustic software-defined Modem (SuM), recently developed by the University of Padova and SubSeaPulse SRL, is a low-cost platform composed of a newly developed Raspberry Pi HAT analog frontend, which brings underwater acoustic data transmission and positioning capabilities over the widely used Raspberry Pi platform, thus exploiting its great flexibility. In this paper we present its inaugural sea trial campaign in fresh and salt water, where its ranging and communication abilities have been significantly tested. Results prove that the developed system is mature enough to be used in sea trials and provides good performance up to a range of several hundred meters when equipped with low-cost transducers, and of a few kilometers when used with professional transducers. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The role of anomaly detection systems in Critical Infrastructures (CIs) is critical due to the complexity of CIs and their control systems, which are usually implemented by computer-based controllers that constantly produce logs of their activities. Moreover, many CIs, located in different locations or even belonging to different companies, may share similar application software for controlling the CIs themselves. The goal of this work is to use such logs to perform automatic anomaly detection in a federated learning (FL) paradigm, which ensures that no data is exchanged between sites to train the anomaly detection models, but each learning agent learns on its own data, leveraging the knowledge acquired by the other agents. Our proposed approach - AdaLightLog - which implements a modified FL paradigm with adaptive loss functions at local servers side and weighted averaging of local server models, so to differentiate the quality of the different local servers’ models in the global averaging, is tested against state-of-the-art methods and shows an improvement in performance in terms of accuracy, precision and recall with respect to the standard FL implementation (FedAvg). Furthermore, a comparison between different metrics for the adaptive loss functions and the dynamic weights is presented. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

SPE’s Drilling Systems Automation Technical Section (DSATS) sponsors the Drillbotics® autonomous drilling contest to promote advanced learning at participating universities. Two groups worked separately to drill a directional well hands-free and to connect to a well model to detect/close in a kick. This paper consolidates the efforts of both teams. Team A, the directional drilling team from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Ghana, developed a virtual model that replicated full-scale directional drilling operations, facilitating the development and testing of innovative control schemes and automation strategies. Leveraging state-of-the-art drilling software, real-time data analytics, and advanced control systems, the project demonstrated the potential of automated drilling technologies across both the planning and execution phases of drilling projects. Team B, from Technical University Clausthal (TUC) in Germany, designed and built a mini-rig that included a working scaled version of a rotary steerable system (RSS) tool to steer a wellbore through a block of sandstone to reach two non-planer targets. The work incorporates machine learning techniques to evaluate downhole sensor data and improve steering signal input. The modular design of the second-generation surface actuation system offers a more compact and efficient solution than its predecessor. The control architecture and network protocols are analyzed, demonstrating network delays of under 2 msec using a refined second-generation translator setup. The achievements of both teams are important to the future of drilling automation, as their approaches could be used to verify and validate third-party app’s communications prior to field release on full-scale rigs. This work aims to conduct a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of seamless leggings produced by a Portuguese textile company, following a "cradle-to-gate" approach. This includes all life cycle stages from raw material production to the packaging of the seamless leggings, ready to leave the company gate. Primary data for the foreground processes were obtained from the actual industrial practices of the Portuguese company, complemented by data from the ecoinvent V3.5 life cycle inventory database and literature sources, primarily for the background processes. The ReCiPe 2016 Midpoint (E) V1.02 methodology was employed to evaluate potential environmental impacts, using the SimaPro V8.5.2 LCA software. Results indicate that the production and spinning of fibers have the highest environmental impacts, mainly due to their high energy consumption. Dyeing operations are more impactful than confection operations, particularly contributing to water use and freshwater ecotoxicity. Therefore, efforts to reduce overall environmental impacts should initially focus on these life cycle stages. Switching the electricity source from the national grid mix to entirely photovoltaic energy resulted in a significant reduction in several environmental impact categories, including a 30% reduction in global warming potential. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Crime forecasting is a critical endeavor aimed at preventing future criminal actions, specifically the rising rate of violence against women in India. This study proposes the model to predict crimes committed against women using data from the National Crime Records Bureau's (NCRB) monthly crime report. The dataset encompasses district and state-wise crime activities from 2001 to 2014. The proposed work objectives are identifying factors influencing these crimes and developing predictive models using machine learning (ML). The study employs Exploratory data Analysis (EDA), to enhance the predictive power of the models. The suggested study uses XGBoost, Random Forest (RF), and Neural Network (NN). The neural network algorithm outperforms the Random Forest and XGBoost techniques among these three. The Random Forest algorithm has the worst performance. After comparing the accuracies of various methods, such as XGBoost (92%), and Random Forest (89.84%) classifiers using imbalanced datasets (without employing Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) technique), it was found that the neural network algorithm (95.81%) delivers the highest accuracy. This study looks at model accuracies and finds that, after applying the SMOTE algorithm, neural network algorithms performed best, with an accuracy of 96.76%, outperforming the accuracies of the remaining models, which included the Random Forest (93.08%) and XG-Boost (95%).

Requirements change is an inevitable activity and can occur due to changes in user demands, increased understanding of the stakeholders, customer organization, project vision, requirements specification and availability of technological solutions. Although requirements change management (RCM) is not a straightforward process in collocated software development, the presence of geographical, social, cultural and temporal variations makes the process more difficult for software teams in Global software Development (GSD). Existing methods do not adequately address many of the GSD issues and challenges. In this paper, we present a graph-based method for RCM.
