This comprehensive review explores the synergistic intersection of blockchain technology and the Internet of Things (IoT), revealing how the fusion of these two innovative technologies is revolutionizing both network security and applications. As the IoT ecosystem expands and becomes increasingly complex, the necessity for robust and efficient security measures escalates. Herein, we elucidate how Blockchain technology, renowned for its secure, decentralized nature, can play an instrumental role in safeguarding IoT devices and networks from potential threats and breaches. We conduct an in-depth exploration of the various Blockchain-enabled IoT applications, shedding light on examples that span numerous sectors such as healthcare, supply chain, smart homes, and more. These practical implementations exemplify the enhanced security, transparency, and improved efficiency that Blockchain can introduce to the IoT landscape. This review also identifies and discusses challenges faced when integrating Blockchain with IoT, such as scalability issues and energy consumption, providing suggestions for future research and developments in this area. As the digital age advances, the fusion of Blockchain and IoT holds immense potential not only to fortify security but also to redefine conventional application models. A pedagogical agent is an animated interface in an interactive online learning environment. Its role involves guiding users through instructions and participating in direct discussions. Numerous research studies underline the advantages of pedagogical agents in delivering instruction, tailoring learning experiences, and promoting inclusivity. The authors utilize machine learning techniques to develop an interactive multimodal application (combining visuals and audio) designed as a pedagogical agent. This application is intended to assist in teaching primary school students (aged 6 to 8) the recognition of colors and letters. Additionally, it incorporates voice interaction to assess their learning progress. The overarching objective of this pedagogical agent is to seamlessly integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into educational settings, thereby amplifying student engagement and motivation during the learning process. This paper will explore the journey of creating a machine learning-based application and its potential utility in supporting educators. Furthermore, the authors will investigate potential augmentations that could render the application more adept at aiding students with dyslexia. The paper will emphasize the significance of human-computer interaction (HCI), as it significantly shapes pedagogical agents' design and operational aspects. © 2023 ieee.

Multi-Task Learning (MTL) is a machine learning paradigm that allows for a model to simultaneously train and predict multiple related tasks/targets using a shared core network and task-specific branching layers. The related nature of the tasks can be exploited to regularize the model and has been shown to increase performance in all tasks. Medical healthcare records (MHRs) taken on events such as pregnancy often track multiple related targets such as maternal morbidity factors and long-term health outcomes which serve as an excellent testbed for MTL models. Imbalance in tasks leads to MTL models being dominated by a few tasks as well as struggling to progress during training due to conflicting loss function parameters, resulting in generalized but unspecific models. This study introduces Task-Adaptive Loss weighting, a novel method to address imbalanced tasks and conflicting loss and demonstrates iton a prenatal MHR dataset to create a prediction tool for adverse maternal outcomes. © 2023 ieee.

The progress in data transmission technology has underscored the significance of safeguarding information, particularly with regards to confidentiality. Researchers have therefore dedicated their attention to tackling this concern by introducing various techniques for protecting data confidentiality, including cryptography and steganography. Steganography, a data hiding method that has showcased better results in data security in images, gained significant attention from information security practitioners. Nevertheless, the existing methods show a significant tradeoff between the payload capacity and the stego image's quality, making them not applicable to sensitive domains such as military and medical. In this work, we propose a new steganography method working in medical images based on difference expansions to optimize the alleviation of the imbalance between the payload size and the imperceptibility of the stego image. Our experimental results achieve the best performance of a psnr of 75.1312 dB and the best psnr capacity of 0.6831. Our results showed an improvement in payload capacity from 0.4835 bpp by comparing the existing method to 0.6705 bpp with the same cover image labeled 'Leg'. © 2023 ieee.

Contemporary research, particularly when addressing the most significant transdisciplinary research challenges, cannot effectively be done without a range of skills relating to data management, data analysis, and cyberinfrastructure (CI). These data and CI skills are common to all disciplines that conduct data-centric research. Research Data Science acts as a vital component of the scientific process. In a grassroots attempt to address this gap, the CODATA-RDA Schools of Research Data Science (SoRDS) was founded in 2016 to provide instruction on foundational data science and open research concepts to early career researchers in low and middle-income countries. This partnership between international collaborators has since 2016 provided this training to over 1000 early career researchers in 24 events in 10 countries worldwide. The most recent event was held at Georgia Institute of Technology and focused on health equity and included researchers from minority-serving institutions in the southeast United States. This paper covers the background of the SoRDS project along with organization and curriculum details. It also covers the transition of the events from a non-domain-centric curriculum to spotlighting biological and social health equity data and what we learned to make future health-related events more engaging and valuable to the attendees. It also looks toward future events that will serve international students studying health informatics and other data-centric disciplines. © 2023 ieee.

Flash memory is a promising candidate for novel computing-in-memory (CIM) architectures due to its mature technologies, including robust reliabilities, large capacities, high bit densities, and low cost. However, to design CIM-compatible operation schemes for flash cells, the traditional operations adopted for memory or storage usages should be modified and optimized. In this work, we review recent progress on flash-based CIM architectures, including the operation strategies to enhance the reliabilities, and its applications in high-precision calculations. On the one side, balancing the memory window can achieve 3~4 orders higher endurance (>108), which can be utilized in on-chip AI training;on the other side, 3~4 bits/cell schemes can be used to perform large-scale matrix operations with ultra-low power consumption. All these indicate that flash memory has great potential to provide general-purpose CIM solutions in various applications that require high performance and low power. © 2023 ieee.

Large and complex buildings built in China in recent years, such as Olympic venues, airports, and large hospitals, have brought new fire evacuation problems. Many designs are using Internet of Things (IOT) technology to enhance buildings' perception of flames and smoke. In this paper, in addition to using IoT to improve the fire-awareness of buildings, a set of algorithms based on the Dijkstra' s shortest path method is designed to operate on the local FPGA edge computing terminal to determine the current optimal evacuation path. An IoT system with an evacuation lighting system provides an optimal route indication for people in the *** with the traditional Internet of Things and cloud computing technology, this design uses FPGA near the data terminal to process and analyze the collected data in real time, which effectively improves the speed of data response and Reduced bandwidth congestion caused by massive *** power consumption of *** system was tested in the office building of Beijing University of Technology, which can effectively indicate the path under different fire *** the event of a fire, the evacuation algorithm can be updated every 10 seconds, and the emergency lights are updated every 5 seconds and indicate an emergency route.

The student portal gives users access to the channels of information and resources that they require for their academic pursuits. This includes access to the library services, information about their courses, and academic-related materials. On the other hand, this progress is not without its problems, as most of these services have a finite lifespan while the team still supports them. The student portal should build an artificial intelligence (AI) agent, like a chatbot, to provide 24/7 support for its users. This Chatbot must have a straight-forward user interface or GUI with excellent efficiency;hence it must be a simple system that users with minimal technical understanding can operate. It is intended that by acting as a customer support representative, a chatbot can enhance the user experience on student portal. This paper presents the findings from systematic literature review on previous works of intelligent chatbot implementation in student portal. Out of six main journal search engines and 100 articles found related to this study, only 21 articles are taken into consideration for further analysis. The results from existing studies on chatbot are tagged to nine categories based on content, and the findings are elaborated in terms of the implementation challenges of chatbot for student portal. © 2022 ieee.

The rapid development of social networks has made much user-generated data accessible for public evaluation. These data can be used for multiple purposes, such as textual analysis of comments and reviews. This article employs a variant of the bidirectional encoder representations from Transformer (BERT) model designed explicitly for Bahasa Indonesia (called IndoBERT model) to enhance the performance of the Indonesian natural language understanding benchmark in tasks, such as sentiment analysis and emotion classification. The two tasks were tested using a hybrid method, combining the IndoBERT model's last hidden layer summation with a neural network model. The performance of the resulting model was assessed using the F1-score metric. The experimental results show that the proposed model attains an accuracy of 0.92 and 0.76 for sentiment analysis and emotion classification, respectively. © 2023 ieee.
