In this paper, we improve estimation of the Doppler shift present in signals that originate from multiple wireless digital communication transmitters. We deploy a uniform linear array (ULA) that overhears the frequency band of interest, hence an unauthorized wireless receiver (URx), and propose an algorithm for extracting the symbol duration from the unknown modulated data. The baseband wireless modulated signal is stripped from its data-induced phase shifts, allowing us to calculate high quality estimates of the periodogram, the spectrogram, and the angle-Doppler profile. Performance results show that high quality results without artifacts from digital modulation can be obtained.

An adaptive algorithm for azimuth-angle estimation of moving sources in the presence of array nonidealities is proposed. The method, termed unitary element-space Capon (UES-Capon) beamformer, is robust in the face of small number of snapshots and fully takes into account effects such as mutual coupling, mounting platform reflections, and sensor's misplacement errors. Unlike most of the robust beamformers available in the literature, the proposed method is based on QR-decomposition and real-valued polynomial root tracking. Furthermore, it is applicable to sensorarrays of arbitrary configuration. Numerical results using a real-world antenna array are included, illustrating the excellent performance of the proposed method, both in terms of SINR and fast adaptivity to moving sources.

This paper develops a time reversal moving target detector based on array antennas. Time reversal utilizes the multipath effect by retransmitting the received signal containing the Doppler shift of the moving target. Two detectors are derived in both conventional and time reversal scenarios, respectively. The Monte Carlo results show that the time reversal detector significantly improves the target detection probability in multipath environments compared with the conventional detector. The increase of multipath number is helpful to improve the detection probability of time reversal detector.

In this paper, we propose a generalized coprime array concept through the compression of the interelement spacing of one constituting subarray. As such, the existing variations of coprime array and nested array structures are represented as special cases. In this paper, we address the problem of devising a Quality of Experience (QoE) aware flight plan for UAV mounted Base Station within heterogeneous networks. Specifically, we propose a QoE aware flight planning algorithm leveraging the well established Q-learning approach and introducing a reward related to relevant QoE metrics. Numerical simulation results show the effectiveness of the QoE-aware learning algorithm to devise a flight path such that the UAVs mounted Base Station actually improves the QoE of the heterogeneous network users.

Integrated wireless communications and radar detections have so far mainly relied on phased-array (PA) antennas with only considering the beampatterns in angle domain. By applying the frequency diverse array (FDA) into radar and communications (RadComm) systems, a compact dual-functional structure of joint PA and FDA is designed. Based on the built joint PA and FDA channel models, different beamformer designs are proposed by jointly optimizing the signal-to-interference-noises of the communications and radar. Numerical simulations demonstrate the performances of both communications and the radar with the proposed approaches are over than that of the conventional PA RadComm systems.

Compressive sensing (CS) has successfully been applied to reconstruct sparse signals and images from few observations. For multi-component nonstationary signals characterized by instantaneous frequency laws, the sparsity exhibits itself in the time-frequency domain as well as the ambiguity domain. In this paper, we examine CS in the context of nonstationary arrayprocessing. We show that the spatial averaging of the ambiguity function across the array improves the CS performance by reducing both noise and cross-terms. The corresponding time-frequency distribution which is reconstructed through L-1 minimizations yields significant improvement in time-frequency signature localizations and characterizations.

In this work, we propose a distributed power control algorithm able to capture the tradeoff between detection capabilities and power consumption for a radar sensor network. This is achieved by modeling the radar sensors as rational agents engaging in a noncooperative game in which the detection threshold and the transmit power are properly designed according to the Nash equilibrium solution. An iterative algorithm based on a best-response dynamics is proposed to achieve the equilibrium point and its performance is compared to that achieved by a uniform power allocation.

In this paper, we devise a sparse array design algorithm for adaptive beamforming. Our strategy is based on finding a sparse beamformer weight to maximize the output signal-tointerference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). The proposed method uses the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM), and admits closed-form solutions at each ADMM iteration. Numerical results exhibit excellent performance of the proposed method, which is comparable to that of the exhaustive search approach.

Increasing the number of sources to be processed from a given array of sensors is an important problem in sensorarraysignalprocessing and of interest to many researchers. This problem has also been tackled with the virtual array based approach where the covariance and cumulant lags provide a virtual sensor. Here, an important parameter which affects the parameter estimation accuracy and latency is weight function. The weight function is defined as the frequency of occurrence of each virtual sensor in the virtual array. We provide the close-form expression of virtual array corresponding to linear array. We have also analytically evaluated the weight function of virtual array and have also studied the effect of the weight function on parameter estimation. Simulation results show the parameter estimation accuracy is significantly improve with high weight function.
