Single objective evolutionary constrained optimization has been widely researched by plethora of researchers in the last two decades whereas multi-objective constraint handling using evolutionary algorithms has not been actively proposed. However, real-world multi-objective optimization problems consist of one or many non-linear and non-convex constraints. In the present work, we develop an evolutionary algorithm based on hybrid constraint handling methodology (HyCon) to deal with constraints in bi-objective optimization problems. HyCon is a combination of an Evolutionary Multi-objective Optimization (EMO) coupled with classical weighted sum approach and is an extended version of our previously developed constraint handling method for single objective optimization. A constrained bi-objective problem is converted into a tri-objective problem where the additional objective is formed using summation of constrained violation. The performance of HyCon is tested on four constrained bi-objective problems. The non-dominated solutions are compared with a standard evolutionary multi-objective optimization algorithm (NSGA-11) with respect to hypervolume and attainment surface. The simulation results illustrates the effectiveness of the HyCon method. The HyCon either outperformed or produced similar performance as compared to NSGA-II.

The deconvolution methods are the effective approaches to realize high cross-range resolution of real-beam scanning radar. However, the computational time of these algorithms cannot meet the real-time requirements of radar imaging, which is a key limitation to apply this technology into engineering application. In order to overcome this problem, we propose a parallel processing plan based on Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) frame to achieve the real-time imaging by the Bayesian deconvolution algorithm. Because of the processing of each range bin is independent, the characteristics of GPU parallel computing can be used to settle the problem of large computation burden. In this paper, the method to realize parallel computing on GPU frame will be explained in detail. At last, the Poisson-based maximum a posteriori (MAP) algorithm [11] is taken as an example to compare the efficiency of the GPU frame with Central Processing Unit (CPU).

In this paper we address the problem of automated visual hull computation. This problem is important for various tasks from three dimensional object modeling to markerless motion capture. Different from classical visual hull method that are based on volume or surface, we compute the visual hull through operations on line segments. General intersection and surface reconstruction operations on line segments are proposed together with efficient algorithms. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach can generate a robust and reliable visual hull. ©2010 IEEE.

In WDM networks, survivable routing and wavelength assignment (SRWA) involves assigning link-disjoint primary and backup lightpaths. In the on-line SRWA problem, a sequence of requests arrive and each request is either accepted or rejected based only on the input sequence seen so far. For special networks, we establish on-line algorithms with constant and logarithmic competitive ratios. It is not possible to obtain good competitive ratios in general topologies. Hence, we propose heuristic schemes and evaluate their performance by way of simulations. The building blocks in these schemes are 2- approximation algorithms (MSA and ESA) that we establish for the minimum disruption link-disjoint paths (MDLDP) problem. These approximations require far less memory and computation time than the best-known exact solution of the MDLDP problem. We use these three algorithms as heuristics for the on-line SRWA problem for infinite and finite duration requests and we show that, in terms of on-line performance, our algorithms do as well as (even at times better than) the exact algorithm of the MDLDP problem. We also provide an exact ILP formulation to solve the infinite duration off-line SRWA problem.

In the context of simulating the frictional contact dynamics of large systems of rigid bodies, this paper reviews a novel method for solving large cone complementarity problems by means of a fixed-point iteration algorithm. The method is an extension of the Gauss-Seidel and Gauss-Jacobi methods with over-relaxation for symmetric convex linear complementarity, problems. Convergent under fairly standard assumptions, the method is implemented in a parallel framework by using a single instruction multiple data computation paradigm promoted by the Compute Unified Device Architecture library for graphical processing unit programming. The framework supports the analysis of problems with a large number of rigid bodies in contact. Simulation thus becomes a viable tool for investigating the dynamics of complex systems such as ground vehicles running on sand, powder composites, and granular material flow.

In this work, we demonstrate the performance of a variant of the Heat Transfer Search algorithm which considers simultaneous heat transfer through all the three modes. It has been demonstrated on the thirty real parameter single objective, bound constrained benchmark functions that have been provided as part of one of the competition in IEEE congress on Evolutionary computation 2016. It was observed that the Simultaneous Heat Transfer Search (SHTS) algorithm has a very low time complexity and is competitive to other algorithms in terms of its ability to determine the optimal solutions.

The rapidly changing landscapes of modern optimization problems require algorithms that can be adapted in real-time. This paper introduces an Adaptive Metaheuristic Framework (AMF) designed for dynamic environments. It is capable of intelligently adapting to changes in the problem parameters. The AMF combines a dynamic representation of problems, a real-time sensing system, and adaptive techniques to navigate continuously changing optimization environments. Through a simulated dynamic optimization problem, the AMF's capability is demonstrated to detect environmental changes and proactively adjust its search strategy. This framework utilizes a differential evolution algorithm that is improved with an adaptation module that adjusts solutions in response to detected changes. The capability of the AMF to adjust is tested through a series of iterations, demonstrating its resilience and robustness in sustaining solution quality despite the problem's development. The effectiveness of AMF is demonstrated through a series of simulations on a dynamic optimization problem. Robustness and agility characterize the algorithm's performance, as evidenced by the presented fitness evolution and solution path visualizations. The findings show that AMF is a practical solution to dynamic optimization and a major step forward in the creation of algorithms that can handle the unpredictability of real-world problems. © 2024 IEEE.

In dynamic optimization problems where optimal solutions change over time, traditional ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithms face limitations. This study explores the adaptation of multi-colony ACO algorithms, known for their enhanced search capabilities in stationary problems, to tackle optimization problems in dynamic environments. Various strategies for exchanging information between colonies, which is a critical factor influencing algorithm performance, are investigated. Using the dynamic traveling salesman problem as a foundation, we generate test cases to reflect real-world complexities. Our results on a set of problem instances reveal that the choice of communication strategy between colonies significantly impacts the adaptability and efficiency of multi-colony ACO algorithms in tracking moving optimum. © 2024 IEEE.

The vehicle routing problem (VRP) is a well-known combinatorial optimization problem, seeking to service a number of customers with a fleet of vehicles. It is an important problem in field of distribution, transportation and logistics. But the traditional VRP doesn't consider the traffic condition of the road network. In this paper we provide a mapreduce based hybrid genetic solution using island approach for solving large scale vehicle routing problems in dynamic network with fluctuant link travel time. We used a hybrid approach for generating a mélange of both random and locally optimized population using routing construction algorithms (NNC, Savings and Random). Island model is used for parallelization of genetic algorithm as it has been informally argued that having multiple subpopulations helps to preserve genetic diversity, since each island can potentially follow a different search trajectory through the search space. Various local search methods such as 2-opt have been applied for improving the routes. Our algorithm design and implementation of TDVRPTW is deployed on Hadoop, an open source implementation of MapReduce. computation results of test problems on a distributed platform showed a tremendous improvement, both in terms of computation time and efficiency. © 2012 IEEE.
