With the development of investigation technology, stealthy performance of modern LPI radar is not only related to the signal waveform, but also related to the signal processing methods the intercept receiver used. Using the most common signal processing methods extract the signal feature, and distinguish them by Neural Networks algorithm, take the recognition rate results as the metrication of LPE, to quantify and evaluate the effect that the secure waveform design have on minimizing the risk of divulging radar. And combine it with LPI coefficient to analyze signal waveform. The simulation result indicates that Poly-Phase Shift Keying signal has the best stealthy performance, Linear Frequency Modulation signal has low probability of interception, but high probability of exploitation, Frequency Shift Keying signal has the temperate stealthy feature and the result can be referred, when it comes to the LPI signal waveform design.

Biomedical signal and image processing presents a variety of challenges in terms of the dimensionality of the data being processed, nature of the processing involved, the expected data throughput and the peculiar requirements for embedded applications. The processing involved often entails the detection of patterns of interest such as lesions in tissue and abnormal transients or rhythms in ECG or EEG data. The required data throughput can be very large in the case of multi-channel or multi-dimensional time-varying signals. While General Purpose Processor and Graphical processing Unit implementations abound, custom architectures can be necessary to accelerate processing in order for time-critical information to be available to a clinician. For embedded biomedical applications, energy efficiency severely constrains custom processor design. For implantable devices, these constraints are even more stringent. This special session includes two excellent papers that address some of these issues. Both consider the implementation of biomedical signal processing algorithms with a view toward an eventual implantable device. One paper focuses on neural signal decoders to control artificial limbs, and the other is concerned with the analysis of ECG signals, in particular the detection of QRS complexes as a pre-processing step to detect various abnormal heart conditions.

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have proven very effective in image classification and show promise for audio. We use various CNN architectures to classify the soundtracks of a dataset of 70M training videos (5.24 million hours) with 30,871 video-level labels. We examine fully connected Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), AlexNet [1], VGG [2], Inception [3], and ResNet [4]. We investigate varying the size of both training set and label vocabulary, finding that analogs of the CNNs used in image classification do well on our audio classification task, and larger training and label sets help up to a point. A model using embeddings from these classifiers does much better than raw features on the Audio Set [5] Acoustic Event Detection (AED) classification task.

In the field of signal processing in general, and in particular in the image processing one, it is quite common to customize the underling architecture to improve computing efficiency. This section is dedicated to architectures for image processing and four different papers will be presented. Solutions based on application specific processors, characterized on the processing requirements, may improve on board processing and facilitate data transmission from distributed computing nodes as presented in first paper. Memory hierarchy implementation and management is fundamental to improve computing efficiency. In this sense, the second paper investigates the usage of associative memories for pattern detection purposes and will apply them in the context of Clustered Neural Networks, while the third one presents a memory efficient architecture implementing in hardware the Multi-Scale Line Detector algorithm for real-time retinal blood vessel detection. Finally, the last paper is more system oriented, being focused on modelling techniques to derive and verify lossless compression IP cores.

As application complexity increases, the design of efficient computing architectures able to cope with embedded constraints requires a fine algorithm analysis. This paper proposes an original approach based on Modular Assembly Simulator (MAsS) tool that allows design Space Exploration (DSE) for programmable processors. The originality of the method resides in its capacity to generate operator level simulators allowing a quick code analysis from real data sets. This paper also presents two successfully designed architectures using MAsS.

Recent studies predict that video data accounts for 82% of Internet traffic by 2022. This fact has motivated MPEG to define a new Video Coding Standard called Versatile Video Coding (VVC), which will be released by the end of 2020. VVC will offer the possibility to handle new video formats and to improve significantly video compression over its predecessor HEVC. Indeed, the objective is to reduce the necessary bit rate by half, at equivalent quality. These advances require the use of more complex algorithms, although the increase in complexity has been limited throughout the standardization process. In order to decrease the complexity of VVC and consequently the coding execution time, several methods have been introduced at different stages of the encoder. The aim of this paper is to explore the available parallelism of VVC to accelerate the coding and the decoding processes. This paper focuses on the transformation block and more specifically the new concept of Multiple Transform Selection (MTS) introduced by VVC. Moreover, a study of several granularity levels of Interface-Based Synchronous Dataflow (IBSDF) models and their impact on the performances obtained on x86 architectures is presented. IBSDF dataflow graph has been developed to reveal the available parallelism of MTS. The PREESM fast prototyping tool is then used for the mapping and the scheduling of MTS on virtual and real parallel architectures and for generating efficient parallel implementations on real architectures. PREESM has been used in this work to explore the potential parallelism offered by MTS and to prove the efficiency of MTS on multicore x86 architectures. Experimental results show a speed-up close to the optimum. © 2021 ACM.

The Automata Processor is a novel hardware accelerator that enables parallel implementation of classification in large datasets. To date, this pattern matching has been limited to one-dimensional problems that can be implemented as flexible string-matching methods such as those found in genomics. To map our multi-dimensional tissue image classification problem into a string matching processor, we first transform discriminative feature descriptors using a cumulative distribution transform. The transformed features are encoded into regular expressions which can be executed on the automata. The paper highlights a method of evaluating the similarity between images using these regular expressions in the automata processor. Our image retrieval and classification method improves on classification accuracy and achieves a run-time of less than one one-hundredth of a second per image which represents a three-fold improvement over competing architectures.

The DSP (Digital signal processing) and digital control have many advantages over the analog processing and control. Therefore, with the recent advancements of technology most of the signal processing and control tasks have been transferred from the analog to the digital domain. In order to keep the system efficient in terms of resources and power consumption, the specific system designs are opted. In this context, the VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) is extensively employed for these systems modelling and design. This paper presents an illustrative example of system modeling with VHDL for the education purpose. A synthesizable VHDL code is developed for a dice game. The system functionality is also verified with a C++ based system modeling and simulations. Unlike conventional programming methodologies, a relationship between the hardware and the developed software in kept. The developed system board level testing is performed. Results show a proper system functionality.

Overlays are reconfigurable architectures synthesized on commercial of the shelf (COTS) FPGAs. Overlays bring some advantages such as portability, resources abstraction, fast configuration, and can exhibit features independent from the host FPGA. We designed a fine-grained overlay implementing novel features easing the management of such architectures in a cluster of heterogeneous COTS FPGAs. This demonstration shows the use of this overlay in an FPGA cluster, performing a hardware application live migration between two nodes of a cluster. It also illustrates fault tolerance of the cluster.

This paper presents the state of the art of the Integrated Streak Camera (ISC) architectures in standard CMOS technology. It focuses on some of the methods required for reconstructing the luminous events profile from the chip raw data. Two main ISC architectures are presented. The first adopts the traditional for the most silicon imagers pixel array configuration, where the photocharges-induced signal is processed directly in-pixel. The second approach is based on a single light detecting vector, comparable to the slit of a Conventional Streak Camera (CSC), coupled to an amplifier stage and an analog sampling and storage unit. For both architectures, depending on the on-chip processing of the photocharges, appropriate signal reconstruction techniques are required in order to restore the luminous signal shape. A novel single vector ISC front-end architecture with an asynchronous photodiode reset scheme is presented. Algorithms allowing the luminous event reconstruction are proposed and validated through simulations for all the ISCs considered.
