The key to successful spectral un-mixing is indicating number of endmembers and their corresponding spectral signatures. Nevertheless, correctly estimate the number of endmembers without a priori knowledge is a very hard task because pixels in a hyperspectral image are always contain a mixture of the several reflected spectra. Currently, Noise Whitened Harsanyi, Farrand, and Chang (NWHFC) and hyperspectral signal subspace identification by minimum error (HySime) are two well-known methods for estimating the number of endmembers. However, in practice, because NWHFC requires fixing the false-alarm probability and HySime needs estimate noise of each spectral band, these two methods may not only ignore small objects but also can't identify endmembers. In this paper, assuming endmembers in a hyperspectral image can be modeled by convex geometry. We propose a threestage process to estimate the number of endmembers. At the first stage, principal component (PC) is used to transform original image to low-dimensional components for speeding up algorithm execution. At second stage, successive volume maximization (SVMAX) is used to obtain vertex using convex properties. At the third stage, spectral angle mapper (SAM) is used to compute similarity measures among vertex, and minimum SAM value represents vertex separation. Repeat the second and third stages by increasing transformed component dimensions until reach a predefined criteria. The number of endmembers of the image is the vertex with maximum of the vertex separations Finally, the proposed method is applied to synthetic and real AVIRIS and HYDICE hyperspectral data sets for estimating the number of endmembers. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can be used to estimate more reasonable and precise number of endmembers than the two published methods.

Many studies have shown the key to promote STEM education stands on motivating and engaging students in studying and improving their learning performance. Experiential learning is proved to be an effective pedagogy in promoting student learning experience, especially in student-centered interest-based activities. In this paper, we present our exploration in applying the experiential learning in engineering education through the design and development of an exoskeleton suit which can be used as a multifunctional platform for various interdisciplinary projects. The platform enables students in practicing diversified engineering design and explore innovative technologies, such as CAD design and 3D printing, microprocessor and microcomputer system design, image processing, sensor and signal processing, wireless communication, etc. Through the development of the suit, participated engineering students are strongly motivated and significantly promoted in engineering learning, practicing, exploring and innovating. The design of the exoskeleton is patented and the leader student developers received awards in different competitions. © American Society for Engineering Education, 2017.

In phase measuring profilometry, the system gamma nonlinearity makes the captured fringe patterns non-sinusoidal, which causes the computed phase to exist a non-ignorable error and seriously affects the 3D reconstruction accuracy. Based on the detailed study of the existing gamma nonlinearity compensation and phase error reduction technique, a method based on low-pass frequency domain filtering is proposed. It mainly filters out higher than one-order harmonic components induced by the gamma nonlinearity in conditions of holding as much power as possible in the power spectrum, thus improves sinusoidal waveform of the fringe images. Compared to other compensation methods, the complex mathematic model is not needed in the proposed method. The simulation and experiments confirm that the higher-order harmonic components are significantly reduced, the phase precision can be effectively improved and a certain accuracy requirement can be reached.

Application specific integrated circuits are used to provide real-Time performance of handheld devices within the compact physical size and low energy dissipation. However, these circuits are inflexible for any modification like redesign and refabrication. Reconfigurable architectures are promising alternative for conventional computing devices such as application-specific integrated circuits. It provides high-level flexibility to adapt the applications through dynamic hardware customization even after fabrication. A reconfigurable computing system design considers the peculiarities of the targeted application domain along with architectural issues like dynamic reconfiguration, partial reconfiguration, hardware/software co-design and context management. A brief survey has been carried out to understand the concepts and applications of CGRA, FPGA, SoC, NoC, MPSoC, dynamic partial reconfiguration, hardware/software co-design, design-space exploration, multi-objective optimization, genetic algorithm and reconfigurable computing on wireless communications. This paper deals with the survey on modeling, design, implementation and evaluation of coarse-grained dynamically reconfigurable processor architectures targeting the real-Time embedded computing domain. © 2017 IEEE.

We present an attention-based modular neural framework for computer vision. The framework uses a soft attention mechanism allowing models to be trained with gradient descent. It consists of three modules: a recurrent attention module controlling where to look in an image or video frame, a feature-extraction module providing a representation of what is seen, and an objective module formalizing why the model learns its attentive behavior. The attention module allows the model to focus computation on task-related information in the input. We apply the framework to several object tracking tasks and explore various design choices. We experiment with three data sets, bouncing ball, moving digits and the real-world KTH data set. The proposed Recurrent Attentional Tracking Model (RATM) performs well on all three tasks and can generalize to related but previously unseen sequences from a challenging tracking data set.

the Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Device (AMOLED) currently apply four sub-pixels architecture, which include a red (R), green (G), blue (B) and additional (X) sub-pixel, which has high luminous efficiency to achieve a power efficient display. Therefore, a specified algorithm would be requested to indicate which pair of sub-pixels is lighting up. In this work, we propose an available method to implement the selection for the display of four sub-pixels configuration. Utilizing the property of the CIE-xy coordinate, a threshold value would be derived to perform RGBX sub-pixels selection. The proposed method can simplify the difficulty of conventional algorithm.
