In this paper we introduce evaluation experiments performed by an expert to assess Large Language Models ability to answer questions related to export control in Japanese language. We compare outputs of two popular models, namely ChatGPT and GPT-4, and measure their accuracy in predicting intention of the question and label of the answer. Prediction results indicate that both models were better in guessing question intention but failed to recognize what type of an answer would be most probable. Furthermore, expert evaluation of outputs generated by both models show that most of the answers contain mistakes which can mislead users asking a dialog system for an expertise. We analyze these outputs and enumerate problems to be tackled in the future. © 2023 ieee.

The effective use of synthetic data for the training of recognition algorithms is considered as a major turning point in computer vision. The cost associated with the gathering of training data currently limits the use of deep learning solutions for object recognition to a selected few applications. Despite the advances in photorealistic rendering capabilities, the lack of transferability between synthetic and real training domains still constitutes a major setback. Leveraging this issue is of essence as it would enable the use of artificial images in the framework of any application able to be modeled. In this work, an automated synthetic images generation pipeline is used to train a detection model based on the YOLOv5 architecture for the real-time recognition of defects in pipe infrastructures. The effectiveness of detection is assessed on real recordings of damaged tubes and for different training configurations. The suitability of the synthetic data generation pipeline is evaluated and recommendations for future applications are drawn. © 2023 ieee.

Homomorphic encryption (HE) offers a promising solution for maintaining data privacy even during calculation, as it allows for the evaluation of ciphertexts. Several HE libraries have been released, but selecting the best-suited library for HE beginners can be challenging. This paper provides insights into the selection process by comparing three popular HE libraries: HElib, Microsoft SEAL, and OpenFHE. To evaluate the performance of these libraries, we implemented a convolutional neural network inference using each of the three libraries and analyzed its latency. Our experimental results show that Microsoft SEAL achieves the shortest latency, less than 56% of OpenFHE and less than 17% of HElib. In terms of ease of use, OpenFHE surpasses the other libraries because it eliminates the need for programmers to consider rescaling during calculations and has more choices on different key-switching algorithms. In contrast, utilizing automatic rescaling with OpenFHE results in 5x longer latency than manual rescaling. © 2023 ieee.

The accommodation sharing market is now huge, but it is diverse and there is a wide difference in the revenue performance of properties. Understanding the features that contribute to the revenue performance of accommodation sharing is important for property owners and accommodation platforms alike. This research examines the extent to which amenities of properties contribute to revenue performance using the lens of signaling theory. Due to the large number of amenities and a sparse data set, the research employs an advanced method for variable selection, Adaptive Best Subset Solution (ABESS). The research uses a random sample of 10% of all properties from Airbnb in New Zealand. The results suggest that 28.6% of the variance in performance can be explained by 16 amenities noted on property listings (both positive and negative). The results have implications for property owners and accommodation sharing platforms in helping to improve revenue capture from listings. The research also contributes a research process for similar forms of complex data analysis. © 2023 ieee.

Advances in machine learning and deep learning have assisted progress in stock market predictions, which have presented unique opportunities for investors and traders to benefit from predictions. However, understanding how these models work is crucial to trusting their predictions. This research applies three prominent Explainable AI (XAI) techniques - SHAP, LIME, and Permutation Importance - to three distinct forecasting models: Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and Decision Tree. This work fills a gap in the literature by comparing XAI methods across a combination of 'black-box' and 'white-box' models. Two key research questions guide this research: the performance of these XAI methods across the chosen models and the consistency between global and local explanations across these models. Findings reveal interesting model-specific behaviors, like CNN's emphasis on slightly older data and LSTM's focus on immediate past data. In the S&P 500 dataset context, features such as 'Close' and 'Adj Close' prices emerged as significant across models, while 'Volume' remained insignificant. This study offers a broader perspective on applying XAI in financial time series forecasting and helps enhance trust and comprehension among stakeholders relying on these model predictions. © 2023 ieee.

Driver fatigue and distraction are major contributors to fatal road accidents worldwide. To enhance vehicle safety, this article proposes a fatigue detection system using EAR and MAR algorithms to identify signs of fatigue, such as eye closure and yawning. When prolonged eye closure or yawning is detected, the system issues an alert to the driver. It leverages OpenCV and Dlib libraries for implementation. Additionally, the system detects driver distraction by monitoring head swivels, counting left and right movements. It's worth noting that Dlib may yield facial landmark deviations for non-frontal faces. To mitigate this, the study selected 69 videos from the YawDD database, focusing on near-frontal face views, achieving a 91.3% accuracy rate. © 2023 ieee.

The process of learning is multifaceted and intricate, with confusion playing a pivotal role in engagement and motivation. Confusion arises from a disequilibrium that a learner may have due to some knowledge misconceptions when performing cognitive tasks. While some form of confusion can lead to better achievements in such tasks, prolonged confusion causes frustration and disengagement. So, to maintain a balance between less confused to highly confused states is highly crucial. In this study we propose explainable clustering technique for confused learners. In this study we first dig deeper into the set of confused learners and form clusters using K-Means clustering. K-Means clustering provides the clusters like a black-box technique is since the purpose of this clustering was to better understand the confused learners, we extended the clustering with tree-based approach that explains why a particular learner was placed in a particular cluster. This explainability provides an opportunity to design better intervention strategies to control confusion in learners © 2023 ieee.

The chemical mixing plant could be automated using supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) technique. The SCADA system contains a central control unit, a remote terminal unit, and a communication medium. The chemical mixing plant operator may use the central control unit to automate the operations of the chemical mixing plant. The field devices of the chemical mixing plant are connected with the remote terminal unit. Ethernet, Profinet, or WAN network could be used to establish the communication medium between the central control unit and the remote terminal unit. The central control unit acts as the server and the remote terminal unit act as the client. The simple server-client communication system is used to exchange the messages between the central control unit and remote terminal unit. The communication medium uses Genesys protocol to exchange the messages between the central control unit and the remote terminal unit. © 2023 ieee.

Ethereum technology has brought upon the smart contract concept, enabling multiple independent parties to engage in transactions without the need for an external trusted authority. While this distributed network operates correctly and autonomously, smart contracts may expose security vulnerabilities, which may be exploited by malicious actors to illegitimately transfer funds. Furthermore, once a smart contract is created, it cannot be changed due to the immutability of the blockchain structure. Hence, it is critical to detect smart contract vulnerabilities before they are deployed. In this work, we propose VASCOT, a Vulnerability Analyzer for Smart COntracts using Transformers, to automatically perform sequential analysis on the EVM bytecode of smart contracts, to detect trace vulnerabilities. We construct a data set comprising Ethereum smart contracts verified in 2022;our evaluation of VASCOT on this data set demonstrates improvement in accuracy and significant reduction in time cost compared to the previously proposed sequential vulnerability scanners. To the best of our knowledge, this work constitutes the first use of transformers for smart contract security. © 2023 ieee.

The advent of the Internet, as well as the increasing use of various web applications, social media platforms, and the Internet of Things, are posing online threats to people. Moreover, with the growing dependence on Industry 4.0 operations, cybersecurity awareness and practices have become more important to organizations and countries than ever before. The current study intends to evaluate cybersecurity practices and awareness at a local education service provider in Fiji. A quantitative methodology comprising an online survey was administered to collect responses from its students who are employees from 22 different organizations in Fiji. The results of the study showed that the employees in Fiji have an average awareness of cyber hygiene. The highly positive correlation value between employee response to cybersecurity practices and awareness indicates that some organizations follow good cyber hygiene. The results from this study indicate that organizations in Fiji need to be more vigilant to defend themselves from the raising cyber threats and vulnerabilities. © 2023 ieee.
