With plenty of opportunities for new social interactions, events, and other perspectives, it may he a challenge for students to balance both time and money simultaneously. Even though there is a variety of planning and budgeting application in the market to help students in terms of education and personal life, students ought to download multiple applications that only have a particular function. With this multifunctional application - StuLogger, it aims to improve student knowledge and promotes self-reflection, which may encourage students 'perception of their time spent and allow them to track their financial activity efficiently. It allows users to set up income and expense from various options such as food, transportation, hills, and others. Besides that, the app conies with a calendar, notes and reminder to allow users to (organize their daily activities. The study employed a mixed-method approach in which both survey and interview were conducted online by students from private university.

A free-piston engine (FPE) is a linearly-reciprocating internal combustion engine (ICE) which offers many advantages over the conventional crank-slider ICE. Benefits include improved thermal and mechanical efficiencies, multiple fuel capability due to the free-piston dynamics and variable compression ratio, and higher power-to-weight ratio due to single-moving part and compact design. Coupled to a linear electric generator (LG), the resultant system is a free-piston linear electric generator (FPLG)-an alternative power source for vehicle propulsion and portable power generation. This paper discusses control issues of the FPLG and proposes an electrical solution to achieve sustained operation in the face of combustion variation and engine misfires. It presents simulation results on the effect of varying output load current on piston trajectory, for viability of automatic control in an otherwise unconstrained FPLG. © 2020 ieee.

As poor student engagement with online learning remains an open issue, this research aims to assess the impact that scrutable and controllable open learner models have on enhancing student engagement. This paper presents personalized visual narratives that display the learner's engagement with his/her course content, the time spent on course tasks, resources used, and peer comparisons. The visual narratives include the student's learner model which presents his/her performance and development to date and supports visual scrutinization. It also enables the student to challenge his/ her system calculated knowledge levels. The research discussed in this paper shows how the visual narratives, specifically how the visual scrutinization and challenging of knowledge levels enhanced the engagement levels of undergraduate students enrolled in an online learning module.

The GaN is considered by many as it has demonstrated the capability to be the displacement technology for silicon semiconductor in power electronic devices and light emitting diodes. In this project, heterostructure of GaN/AlN were deposited using RF magnetron sputtering at room temperature and its properties was studied. The structural and surface roughness of the deposited films were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscope (AFM). Additionally, cross-sectional of field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) was used for the measurement of GaN/AlN thickness. The XRD results show that the deposited GaN is amorphous while the surface roughness and grain size are in the of ∼ 2 nm and 60 nm, respectively. The surface topography observed using AFM shows that the GaN/AlN has homogenous structure while FESEM images show that the GaN/AlN film has pebble like structure. © 2020 ieee.

The deposition of A1N thin film was conducted in three different working pressures of 3, 5 and 10 mTorr by HiPIMS method with tilted sputter target. XRD pattern shows nearly single crystalline of a-axis A1N thin films were produced. A1N thin film growth rate increase with the decrease of working pressure as agreed by FESEM cross-sectional images. The thickness of A1N thin film observed at 267 nm, 221nm, and 183 nm for 3 mTorr, 5 mTorr and 10 mTorr, respectively. The degree of crystallinity was observed higher at lower working pressure at 64.3% and reduced to 52.02% at 10 mTorr. However, the micro strain and dislocation density were observed improved over the increase of working pressure referring to single-crystalline a-axis A1N dominant peak. © 2020 ieee.

In this full paper, we describe a design activity method for developing research questions and present a study on student's perception to validate it. We examine, compare and discuss results from three different graduate student cohorts (first, second, and third semester Master's degree students) who used the worksheet method at different stages of their graduate careers. The method is designed to help students identify topics, think critically about the underlying questions to explore a topic, identify a problem to be addressed by the research, and identify data sources to facilitate the research effort. The four stages are introduced as an incremental scaffolding process. Preliminary results showed graduate students found the worksheets effective in helping to develop research questions. This work contributes to the development of research practices and pedagogy supported by sound research questions.

Countries around the world are committed to cultivating outstanding talent through STEM education. It is widely acknowledged that authentic STEM research programs are one of the most effective ways to achieve the goals of STEM education. In this paper, we present survey results in the 2018-2019 school year from school-based research programs at Princeton International School of Mathematics and Science (PRISMS) in the US and the High School Affiliated to Renmin University (commonly abbreviated as RDFZ) in China. A factorial MANOVA and a General Linear Model Univariate Analysis were used to test for similarities and differences between students' gains in dimensions of gains in thinking and working like a scientist (WIS), personal gains related to research work (PG), gains in skills (SKILL), attitudes or behaviors as a researcher (ATT), and career and graduate education aspirations (INF). Across both programs, we find significant gains on all variables as students' progress through their research experience. Scores from PRISMS students on WIS, PG, and ATT are significantly higher than those from RDFZ students. SKILL and INF showed significant correlations and thus were analyzed together;PRISMS students also scored higher on these variables. PRISMS 12th graders scored the highest of all school/grade level combinations. The results of this comparison speak to the efficacy of both programs in achieving the pedagogical goals of STEM research experiences. Variables that may have influenced the difference in outcomes between PRISMS and RDFZ are discussed, with particular attention given to the differences in the student population and school in general, number of students per project, and length of the research experience.

This research Work-in-Progress Paper presents an evaluation of feedback gathered from a post-semester survey jointly taken by students in Ireland and the United States. The ability to function in international team-based environments becomes increasingly important and represents a desirable skill for employers of graduating students. Despite incentives, an international course offering in mobile application development resulted in only two cross-institutional teams by student choice, which we investigate here. We encountered that about half of the respondents considered dropping the course for at least one reason at one point, with one third identifying the course difficulty level as a reason, but also indicating agreement with the course being worthwhile. Some of the feedback presented indicates that students have a preference for project-based courses and like working in teams, but are also wary of the potential coordination overheads and dependability on their peers, despite modern communication tools as part of the class offering.

Agarwood oil, renowned both locally and internationally, is valued for its applications in perfumes, incense, and traditional medicine. However, it remains difficult to grade accurately due to a lack of precise methods. In the present study, data were obtained from the Forest research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), Selangor Malaysia and BioAromatic research Centre of Excellence (BARCE), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA). This study, using data from a previous researcher, focuses on the resilient backpropagation (RBP) training function within the Nonlinear AutoRegressive eXogenous (NARX) model to evaluate its effectiveness for grading agarwood oil quality. An iterative approach is applied starting with simpler architectures and increasing complexity by adjusting the number of hidden neurons in the NARX model. The models are evaluated using performance metrics including Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), R-squared (R2), Epochs, and Accuracy to select the architecture that achieves the best performance. All analyses are conducted in MATLAB software version R2020a. The outcomes of this study will be highly beneficial for future studies in the field of agarwood oil, particularly in improving oil quality classification. © 2024 ieee.
