Recognizing lies in human interaction is one of the most important and challenging tasks in artificial intelligence. For example, it leads to the development of a human-computer interaction system that detects a liar in a conversation. In another example, some systems in the future might occasionally need to tell a lie for not hurting user's feelings, namely a white lie for trouble-free conversations. In this paper, we construct a video corpus for developing a system that detects lies in conversations. the corpus consists of 540 question-answer pairs by 9 persons;270 true answers and 270 lies. We manually analyze the images in the corpus for recognizing lies. In addition, we apply machine learning techniques, support vector machines with local binary pattern features and geometric features, to our corpus. We discuss the results of the analysis of the corpus and the machine learning approaches to our corpus.
We present a robust algorithm performing uncalibrated rectification which does not require explicit computation of the epipolar geometry, and specifically of the fundamental matrix. Our algorithm exploits the fact tha...

the uprising of multi-channel wearable EMG sensors combined with machine learning patternrecognition algorithms offers the possibility to control multiple degree of freedom hand prosthetics. Such human-machine interaction systems require training from the user, mostly to link gestures with underlying EMG patterns. As intended end users have a missing hand, the question arises how to train them to use myo-electric prosthetics without instructing them to perform gestures;A key element to start training withpatternrecognition EMG based prosthetic control is creating a shared vocabulary withthe participant/patient. the shared vocabulary forms the base for the explanation and communication about the patternrecognition EMG. In this research an abstract form of communication based on animal sounds is used to form a shared vocabulary for a child with missing hands. We found that the abstract communication worked well and motivating when explaining patternrecognition EMG to a child. the communication tool that gives additional interaction makes the explanation much clearer since the participant starts directly with experiencing the patternrecognition EMG. Also, it is concluded that the abstract nature of the tested communication allows the participant to keep an open mind for gestures other than normal healthy hand movements when exploring the possible control contractions. thus, abstract based communication can offer benefits during the training withpatternrecognition EMG.

the present work presents a biometric identifier system using the combination of two different features: hands shape (finger lengths and width) and hand-written signature contour. Signature database contains 300 different signers with 24 signatures and the hand database has 144 owners with10 images. the study covers three different classifiers: Hidden Markov Models (HMM), Support Vector Machines (SVM) and a combination of both using the Fisher Kernel. Systems are evaluated separately and in conjunction, giving in each case 100% of identification success rate for the combined classifier. the combination of features gives better results when reducing the training set than the independent systems.

the progress of science and technology has brought profound influence to education, which makes human learning more convenient and effective. Ubiquitous computing technology makes ubiquitous learning (U-learning) possible. Under the ubiquitous environment, the learning style has gradually changed from traditional learning to U-learning. U-learning is a new learning paradigm which has been studied in China in recent years. the basic concepts of ubiquitous computing and ubiquitous learning are introduced, the connotation, characteristics and function of ubiquitous learning are discussed, and the technical realization approaches of ubiquitous learning are given.

this paper proposes an open government data (OGD) analytics system for discovering patterns in budget requests and procurement data of government agencies. the proposed OGD analytics system is part of an ongoing project to pioneer possible use cases of OGD in thailand. Experiments are conducted with budget and procurement data of government agencies for the fiscal years of 2013-2017. Part of our results have already been publicized on the website of thailand's Bureau of the Budget. Furthermore, four interesting patterns of government spending are found in the data and their possible implications are discussed. We anticipate that this paper will serve as an example on how government data in thailand can be used to support e-government strategies to further deliver information to citizens.
