this paper presents a moderately high directivity (~12 dBi) antenna having a reconfigurable radiation pattern. the proposed antenna, illustrated in Fig. 1 , is closely based on existing designs [1] - [2] . the proposed antenna consists of a driven element, surrounded by four parasitics. Both the driven element and parasitics, are circular microstrip patch resonators and all have a radius of 9.6mm. the driven element is fed using an SMA connector and energy from this element couples into the parasitics. Each parasitic incorporates a chill hole. A key novelty of the work is that we use a commercially available liquid metal (EGaIn) based on an alloy of Gallium to fill the hole and form a via. When the via is in place we say that the parasitic is ON. Consequently that particular parasitic is short circuited to ground, causing it to act as a reflector. this has the effect of reducing the electric field strength on the surface of those patches to a very low level which effectively deactivates the excitation of TMu mode, as shown in Fig. 2(a) and (b) . the beam, therefore steers away from the ON state parasitics. When the via is removed we say that the parasitic is OFF and it acts as a director. the OFF state parasitics have the effect of increasing the aperture area of the antenna and hence the directivity. the antenna is designed on a substrate with a thickness of 1 mm and dielectric constant of 2.7. the overall dimensions of the proposed antenna are 34 mm × 34 mm

Automated tooth segmentation in Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) images is crucial for various dental applications, including treatment planning and computer-assisted dental prosthesis design. the MICCAI STS 2024 Challenge Task 2 aims to enhance automated tooth segmentation by providing a dataset comprising both labeled and unlabeled CBCT images. this paper addresses the challenge of limited labeled data by reformulating the problem as a semi-supervised learning task. We propose a two-stage deep learning model based on nnU-Net. Our approach initially employs a low-resolution nnU-Net for quadrant segmentation, followed by a full-resolution nnU-Net for fine tooth segmentation within each quadrant. To efficiently utilize unlabeled data, we implement a selective stability-based retraining strategy to generate reliable pseudo-labels. Our method is quantitatively evaluated on the STS 2024 validation set, achieving good performance across various metrics (Dice_instance = 90.74%, Dice_image = 97.70%). the proposed approach achieved one of the highest rankings in the competition’s validation phase, demonstrating its efficacy in automatically segmenting teeth from CBCT images. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

the use of video surveillance in public spaces-both by government agencies and by private citizens-has attracted considerable attention in recent years, particularly in light of rapid advances in face-recognition technology. But it has been difficult to systematically measure the prevalence and placement of cameras, hampering efforts to assess the implications of surveillance on privacy and public safety. Here we present a novel approach for estimating the spatial distribution of surveillance cameras: applying computer vision algorithms to large-scale street view image data. Specifically, we build a camera detection model and apply it to 1.6 million street view images sampled from 10 large U.S. cities and 6 other major cities around the world, with positive model detections verified by human experts. After adjusting for the estimated recall of our model, and accounting for the spatial coverage of our sampled images, we are able to estimate the density of surveillance cameras visible from the road. Across the 16 cities we consider, the estimated number of surveillance cameras per linear kilometer ranges from 0.1 (in Seattle) to 0.9 (in Seoul). In a detailed analysis of the 10 U.S. cities, we find that cameras are concentrated in commercial, industrial, and mixed zones, and in neighborhoods with higher shares of non-white residents-a pattern that persists even after adjusting for land use. these results help inform ongoing discussions on the use of surveillance technology, including its potential disparate impacts on communities of color.

Recently, many route-navigation applications that combines AR (augmented reality technology) and a map have appeared, and it is possible to understand the route more intuitively. However, when using the navigation with AR, the vision of the user has been considerably limited because the route needs to be checked by superimposing the smartphone screen on the real street scape. In this research, the user's gazing pattern while using the conventional smartphone navigation and the AR navigation were compared and analyzed with eye movement tracking technology, for considering an efficient route guidance method that makes comprehensibility and safety compatible.

With the continuous promotion of the construction of teaching information in colleges and universities, the teaching management of ideological and political education courses has produced a large number of teaching information resources. Influence maximization (IM) in online social networks (OSNs) has been extensively studied in the past few years, owing to its potential of impacting online marketing. IM aims at solving the problem of selecting a small set of influential nodes, who can lead to maximum influence spread across a social network. An integral part of IM is the modelling of the underlying diffusion process, which has a substantial impact on the spread achieved by any seed set. In this paper, Hurst-based diffusion model for IM has been proposed, under which node's activation depends upon the nature of self-similarity exhibited in its past activity pattern. Assessment of the self-similarity trend exhibited by a node's activity pattern, has been done using Hurst exponent (H). On the basis of the results achieved, the proposed model has been found to perform significantly better than two widely popular diffusion models, Independent Cascade and Linear threshold, which are often used for IM in OSNs.

Veterinary medicine emphasizes accidents caused by toxic plants with domestic animals as an extremely important topic, as the right diagnosis can be crucial for the affected animal. In this work, we propose the classification of toxic ornamental plants, according to nine different categories, using five widely-known CNN architectures, namely: DenseNet, ResNet, VGG16, VGG19 and Xception. the rationale behind it is that the automatic identification of these types of plant can be a useful tool to help in the prevention of those accidents. the authors have carefully curated a database to support the development of this work, collecting images available on the Pinterest website, and also performing some important data pre-processing. this database was also made available as a contribution of this work. Transfer learning was employed by taking advantage of feature learned from the ImageNet dataset. We also analyzed the heat maps generated by the Layer-wise Relevant Propagation method, which allowed to observe the individual behavior of the best and worst architectures. the best performance was achieved using DenseNet, with an accuracy of 97.67%. that model managed to generalize very well, even to deal with noisy images, which are frequent in photos of decorative environments.

this is an overview paper of the NLPCC 2021 shared task on AutoIE2, which aims to evaluate the sub-event identification systems with limited annotated data. Given definitions of specific sub-events, 100K unannotated samples and 300 annotated seed samples, participants are required to build a sub-event identification system. 30 teams registered and 14 of them submitted results. the top system achieves 8.43 % and 8.25 % accuracy score improvement upon the baseline system with or without extra annotated data respectively. the evaluation result indicates that it is possible to use less human annotation and large unlabeled corpora for the sub-event identification system.
