A digital spirometer is developed along with an application that introduces a certain level of gamification to the otherwise tedious practice of breathing exercises. The spirometer connects wirelessly with the application via Bluetooth. An illustration is displayed on the screen visualizing the patient's lung output. The immediate objective of this product is to engage the patient through gamification during their breathing exercises and consequently improve their lung strength.

This study analyses differences in motivation with a focus on differences in the national character. The turnover rate of foreign workers in the Japanese IT industry is increasing. One possible reason for the increase in turnover is the failure of Japanese companies to set goals and provide treatment that matches the values of foreign workers. Therefore, this study analyses differences in motivation with a focus on national character differences. Interviews will be conducted with Japanese and Vietnamese people, and the results of the interviews will be analysed to estimate differences in motivation.

Document classification serves a diverse range of practical applications, significantly enhancing various processes. For instance, it can expedite the identification of categories assigned to research reports submitted by students. By subsequently aligning these categories with the particular interests of university staff members, the reports can then be evaluated by those who possess the most relevant expertise. In this paper, we developed and evaluated several models for carrying out multi-label and multi-class text classification. Our approach revolves around the pre-trained BERT models. We endeavour to augment the efficacy of classification by leveraging latent information drawn from the output and hidden layers of the BERT architecture. We seek to achieve good accuracy and F1 score of the classification process. Our model utilizing the attention mechanism and LSTM to process information generated by BERT outperforms all other models based on our evaluation.

In this paper we introduce evaluation experiments performed by an expert to assess Large Language Models ability to answer questions related to export control in Japanese language. We compare outputs of two popular models, namely ChatGPT and GPT-4, and measure their accuracy in predicting intention of the question and label of the answer. Prediction results indicate that both models were better in guessing question intention but failed to recognize what type of an answer would be most probable. Furthermore, expert evaluation of outputs generated by both models show that most of the answers contain mistakes which can mislead users asking a dialog system for an expertise. We analyze these outputs and enumerate problems to be tackled in the future.

The accommodation sharing market is now huge, but it is diverse and there is a wide difference in the revenue performance of properties. Understanding the features that contribute to the revenue performance of accommodation sharing is important for property owners and accommodation platforms alike. This research examines the extent to which amenities of properties contribute to revenue performance using the lens of signaling theory. Due to the large number of amenities and a sparse data set, the research employs an advanced method for variable selection, Adaptive Best Subset Solution (ABESS). The research uses a random sample of 10% of all properties from Airbnb in New Zealand. The results suggest that 28.6% of the variance in performance can be explained by 16 amenities noted on property listings (both positive and negative). The results have implications for property owners and accommodation sharing platforms in helping to improve revenue capture from listings. The research also contributes a research process for similar forms of complex data analysis.

By detecting arrays with a low degree of presort-edness, an adaptive quicksort algorithm can switch to a branch free implementation in order to reduce the runtime by up to 2.5 times compared to traditional implementations and outperform strictly branch free algorithms on arrays with a high degree of presortedness. By using a fast method of detecting the degree of presortedness, no prior knowledge about the array composition is required for the algorithm.

Weapon and gun violence have recently become a pressing issue today. The degree of these crimes and activities has risen to the point of being termed as an epidemic. This prevalent misuse of weapons calls for an automatic system that detects weapons in real-time. Real-time surveillance video is captured and recorded in almost all public forums and places. These videos contain abundant raw data which can be extracted and processed into meaningful information. This paper proposes a novel pipeline consisting of an ensemble of convolutional neural networks with distinct architectures. Each neural network is trained with a unique mini-batch with little to no overlap in the training samples. This paper will present several promising results using multiple datasets associated with comparing the proposed architecture and state-of-the-art (SoA) models. The proposed pipeline produced an average increase of 5% in accuracy, specificity, and recall compared to the SoA systems.
