Contemporarily, quantum computing has become a popular topic, which is a new approach that is different from classic computing. To be specific, it can deal with information by using mathematical modeling that used to represent quantum mechanics, including superposition, interference, and entanglement. In quantum computing, information is storage in 'qubit', whereas classic computer use bit to store information. This article aims to introduce the principles and some algorithms of quantum computing, and then discuss some up-to-date important development. There are two important algorithms are mentioned in this article, Grover's algorithms and Shor's algorithms. According to the analysis, Grover's algorithms is potentially faster than classic algorithms. However, it requires millions of qubits to make it. Besides, Shor's algorithms have challenged classic encryption (RSA encryption). Two quantum computer Google Sycamore and Jiuzhang are also mentioned here. The interesting thing is, for some specific question, Jiuzhang performed better than classic computers. Finally, it is found out that the quantum computing is generally slower that classic computer now, due to the restriction of qubit numbers. However, quantum computing still has an advantage in some specific question. These results shed light on guiding further exploration of quantum computer designing. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Observational results suggest the co-evolution relationship between the supermassive black holes (SMBHs) and their host galaxies. However, the definitive conclusion of the correlation between the star formation rate (SFR) and central black hole accretion rate (BHAR) remains unclear. In this paper, the correlation between the BHAR and SFR is investigated in terms of cosmological simulation IllustrisTNG100-1. In simulation, BHs are divided into 2 types (quasar state and kinetic state) based on their accretion speed and the feedback mechanisms between the two are different. The strong positive correlation between BHAR and SFR for quasar state BHs and low-mass kinetic state BHs is revealed. However, for high mass kinetic-state BHs, the SFR manifestation a BHAR and BH mass-independent randomly distribution. According to the analysis, this phenomenon is attributed to the environmentally insensitive, self-regulate accretion rate for high mass BHs at late time. The properties of these BHs are described, which offers a guideline for high mass AGNs observation and theorical investigations on their accretion and feedback. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Hot Jupiters are gas giant planets that have proximity to their host stars with very short orbital periods. The discovery of hot Jupiters challenges the previous hypothesis of planetary formation. To improve our knowledge of Hot Jupiters, this work further investigates over 50 stars surrounded by hot Jupiters by analyzing the updated transit data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), and the radial velocity data primarily from the Keck Telescope. With the limb darkening model and the eccentric orbit model, planetary parameters of the stars are updated. Furthermore, the evidence of wide orbiting planetary masses of some planetary systems is discovered in this paper. Further investigations could be done on the presence of the unseen and non-transiting masses to support the migration hypothesis of the formation of Hot Jupiters. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The paper develops a prediction model based on the surface electromyography (sEMG) signals to recognize the five different arm-related motions. We collect 100 groups of the three-channels signals on Biceps, Triceps, Brachioradialis as the raw data set. Then we extract four features from the data to describe the characteristics of different motions in the data set. In the pre-processing stage, we compare three types of EMD-based filtration methods to denoise signals and choose the most efficient one, then use principle component analysis to reduce the dimension of the data. We use three different methods to classify and predict the processed data for a higher accuracy. The contributions are following: This project successfully automated the pattern recognition of arm-related motions. Moreover, the project generated a valuable data set;Compared performances of EMD, EEMD and CEEMDAN in sEMG signals;Found that FCNN is the most accurate algorithm in this project. Future works include obtain more data from more volunteers to expand the data set. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This thesis uses the Markov decision process (MDP) to investigate how the optimal path is decided by the underwater robot in the presence of different currents. The use of this MDP decision allows the machine to reduce the unwanted travel energy and travel time in different environments, enhancing the cost of using the machine. The scope of the study is a specific problem, and the paper describes how to use a python planning framework to solve path selection in the case where the direction and strength of the currents are determined, while incorporating a probability distribution of Gaussian functions in a finite space. The dynamical ocean current problem is used as a basis to use the MDP decision process. The final results show that the present study meets the hypotheses presented in the expectations. The results are able to simulate that the robot can find the optimal path and reach the target point when facing different currents underwater. By expanding the spatial extent of the observation and changing the parameter settings, it is possible to simulate the robot's path in other situations. The research method can be extended from specificity to generality, and the same research method can be used to obtain optimal path decisions for other different situations. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The high death toll and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic emphasize the need for effective population screening technologies. The high cost, limited availability, and slow nature of CT scans and PCR-based tests renders them impractical for frequent use among the general public. As chest X-ray (CXR) imaging is fast and economical, a high accuracy CXR-based test would be well-suited for such screenings. Deep learning algorithms are widely used to aid medical image diagnoses. We use a collection of state-of-the-art pre-trained deep neural network models with additional layers to detect the COVID-19 cases from a sample of healthy, COVID-19, and pneumonia patients. We observed models trained with concatenated features of multiple pre-trained deep learning architectures outperform the individual and ensemble models. Our final model obtained a recall of greater than 98% and a precision of greater than 95% on two separate datasets. The wide architecture of xCovNet may contribute to its robust behavior, providing a systematic approach to construct a reliable deep learning model for emerging datasets. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) has been broadly investigated and applied in many industries (e.g., medical treatment, food safety and materials) as a powerful approach to explore the internal structure and composition of substances. However, the need for more sensitivity has been one of the most severe problems hindering the practical application of NMR. This paper suggests various approaches to deal with this defect, from adjusting factors based on the theoretical principle to the progressive hyperpolarization method. Classified by polarization sources, several representative sub-fields of hyperpolarization are further interpreted and analyzed, including Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP), Optical Pumping (OP) and Parahydrogen Induced Polarization (PHIP). Based on the analysis and prospect of the aforementioned feasible methods, the main factors that restrict the sensitivity of NMR will be identified. Moreover, the prospects and new technologies brought by the methods based on different theoretical foundations have been considered to improve these factors and make NMR apply to a broader range of fields. Overall, these results not only indicate the current research status but also shed light on guiding further exploration of methods of enhancing NMR sensitivity and usability. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Astronomers have discovered numerous stars in galaxies, each with unique characteristics that mostly evolve into white dwarfs when reaching an evolutionary limit. A star with a low or medium mass less than about eight times the mass of the sun becomes a white dwarf after exhausting its nuclear fuels and begins to condense inwards by the force of gravitational attraction, leading to the final collapse. In this paper, the investigation analyzes three companion stars orbiting around three dwarfs by utilizing data provided by TESS (Tess Exoplanet Survey Satellite) Program G04137, providing more than 5200 candidate white dwarfs for a transiting planet. After testing 5200 known candidates of white dwarf provided by Tess Program G04137, the investigation decided to analyze three companion stars of TIC 403292348, TIC 1860468684, and TIC 356659664. In the first case study, the number of white dwarfs with the possibility of hosting planets is estimated from analyzing BLS data from listed white dwarfs in Sector 40, and the accuracy and limitations of this method are discussed qualitatively as well. In the second case of TIC-1860468684, the investigation analyzes a binary system with a young and bright White Dwarf and a low mass star, where the white Dwarf has tidally locked the star, and there may be nova formed in this system due to material transfer in the future. In the last case of TIC 356659664, the situation of a target is calculated, and possible cause of the target white dwarf's flux curve is estimated. By analyzing three companion stars around white dwarfs, more data will be provided for astronomers for future scientific research. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this paper, an effective and reasonable feasible efficiency calibration method for uniform volume radioactive sources is developed based on VPD (virtual point detector) model. The feasibility of the method was demonstrated by comparing some experiments with simulated values. Under laboratory conditions, the method only requires some simple point radioactive source efficiency calibration experiments, and the resulting data can be corrected for the relevant geometry and the absorption of the volume source to obtain the corresponding volume source efficiency calibration, which has certain generality and operability. © 2022 IEEE.
