The present paper is intended to provide a report of the ADHA Consolidation, Standardization, and Product Suite Development technical status. Since this project is currently under execution, the reported results correspond to the status at the Preliminary Design Review (performed between June and September 2023).

The Olympe project aims to assess the performances offered by the NG-Ultra device and its suitability for future applications such as Platform On-Board Computer. This article presents this project, the test set, the test scope, and technical outcomes so far with an emphasis on performance, boot strategy, and hardware implementation as a cPCI-Serial-space module (anticipating ESA’s Advanced datahandling Architecture (ADHA) standard).

Deep space missions must be autonomous and reliable systems, able to cope with no real-time communication with ground. Those systems shall be able to transmit to ground in reduce period of ground contact all data storage. For Hera satellite the DHS is defined to cope with those storage needs and the spacewire network is defined to cope with real time packet transmission.

To contribute towards the europeanspace Agency’s (ESA) objectives of reducing spacecraft development time, achieving cost efficiency, and promoting faster adoption of innovative technologies, the On-Board Computer and datahandling Systems section (TEC-EDD) is currently engaged in several activities with european industry partners, having the aim to develop across ESA member states an Advanced datahandling Architecture (ADHA) based on standardized, interchangeable, and inter-operable electronics modules equipped with the latest generation of microelectronics *** short paper introduces the concept of ADHA, its current status, its benefits and the future perspectives it opens.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning have attracted lots of attention to the space engineering community the last few years. In this paper, an attempt to utilize the concept of Machine Learning is presented for a robotic mission to other planets (in this paper is focused on Mars) for planetary exploration purposes. Although, building a machine that is able to learn is not achieved (and it is not yet feasible to be built in general), the borrowed ideas, concepts, and products from the research domain on Machine Learning, provided the necessary engineering tools for improving the navigation, kinematics, and control of the rover.

The main objective of the paper is to present a miniaturized distributed and intelligent remote terminal system, called picoRTU-system, based on modular off-the-shelf units for space applications, where each unit has its own set of user interfaces. Distributed RTU system is the first step to enable a truly distributed OBDH architecture with RTU functions closer to the data source.

This paper describes an ESA project that maps and tests interface and protocol compatibility of european cubesat/smallsat avionics-components. The project is called the Modular-Avionics-Test-Bench (MATB). The outcome is a modular-system that tests end-user requirements and interconnects various components.

Currently, there are no european connector solutions able to reach 25 Gbit/s required for state of the art on board-to-board interconnections. In the framework of an ESA activity, commercially available solderless backplane connectors compatible with cPCI Serial space should be tested in accordance with the requirements of ADHA (Advanced datahandling Architecture). In addition, engineering models of modular backplane high density connectors should be designed based on innovative solderless technologies, manufactured, and tested for high data rate space applications. ESA’s focus is to support the european market to provide a space reliable connector solution, in compliance with the cPCI SS standard and the requirements of ADHA study, able to achieve a data rate of at least 25 Gbit/s.
