The task of referring relationships is to localize subject and object entities in an image satisfying a relationship query, which is given in the form of . This requires simultaneous localization of the subject and object entities in a specified relationship. We introduce a simple yet effective proposal-based method for referring relationships. Different from the existing methods such as SSAS, our method can generate a high-resolution result while reducing its complexity and ambiguity. Our method is composed of two modules: a category-based proposal generation module to select the proposals related to the entities and a predicate analysis module to score the compatibility of pairs of selected proposals. We show state-of-the-art performance on the referring relationship task on two public datasets: Visual Relationship Detection and Visual Genome.

Deep learning-based approaches have gained popularity for environment perception tasks such as semantic segmentation and object detection from images. However, the different nature of a data-driven deep neural nets (DNN) to conventional software is a challenge for practical software verification. In this work, we show how existing methods from software engineering provide benefits for the development of a DNN and in particular for dataset design and analysis. We show how combinatorial testing based on a domain model can be leveraged for generating test sets providing coverage guarantees with respect to important environmental features and their interaction. Additionally, we show how our approach can be used for growing a dataset, i.e. to identify where data is missing and should be collected next. We evaluate our approach on an internal use case and two public datasets.

Nowadays, video conference solutions are widely adopted for companies, education, and government. People segmentation is crucial for supporting virtual background, an essential video conference function to protect users' privacy. This paper demonstrated a people segmentation framework called CE-PeopleSeg, which employed an efficient segmentation method, structural pruning, and dynamic frame skipping techniques, leading to a fast inference speed on CPU. Our extensive experiments show that the proposed CE-PeopleSeg can achieve a high prediction mIoU of 87.9% on Supervised People Dataset while reaching a real-time inference speed of 32.40 fps on CPU with very low usage of 10%. Despite the rapid progress in deep visual recognition, modern computer vision datasets significantly overrepresent the developed world and models trained on such datasets underperform on images from unseen geographies. We investigate the effectiveness of unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) of such models across geographies at closing this performance gap. To do so, we first curate two shifts from existing datasets to study the Geographical DA problem, and discover new challenges beyond data distribution shift: context shift, wherein object surroundings may change significantly across geographies, and subpopulation shift, wherein the intra-category distributions may shift. We demonstrate the inefficacy of standard DA methods at Geographical DA, highlighting the need for specialized geographical adaptation solutions to address the challenge of making object recognition work for everyone.

Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) have emerged as a standard framework for representing 3D scenes and objects, introducing a novel data type for information exchange and storage. Concurrently, significant progress has been made in multimodal representation learning for text and image data. This paper explores a novel research direction that aims to connect the NeRF modality with other modalities, similar to established methodologies for images and text. To this end, we propose a simple framework that exploits pre-trained models for NeRF representations alongside multimodal models for text and image processing. Our framework learns a bidirectional mapping between NeRF embeddings and those obtained from corresponding images and text. This mapping unlocks several novel and useful applications, including NeRF zero-shot classification and NeRF retrieval from images or text.

Most popular metric learning losses have no direct relation with the evaluation metrics that are subsequently applied to evaluate their performance. We hypothesize that training a metric learning model by maximizing the area under the ROC curve (which is a typical performance measure of recognition systems) can induce an implicit ranking suitable for retrieval problems. This hypothesis is supported by previous work that proved that a curve dominates in ROC space if and only if it dominates in Precision-Recall space. To test this hypothesis, we design and maximize an approximated, derivable relaxation of the area under the ROC curve. The proposed AUC loss achieves state-of-the-art results on two large scale retrieval benchmark datasets (Stanford Online Products and DeepFashion In-Shop). Moreover, the AUC loss achieves comparable performance to more complex, domain specific, state-of-the-art methods for vehicle re-identification.

Fashion-on-demand is becoming an important concept for fashion industries. Many attempts have been made to leverage machine learning methods to generate fashion designs tailored to customers' tastes. However, how to assemble items together (e.g., compatibility) is crucial in designing high-quality outfits for synthesis images. Here we propose a fashion generation model, named OutfitGAN, which contains two core modules: a Generative Adversarial Network and a Compatibility Network. The generative module is able to generate new realistic high quality fashion items from a specific category, while the compatibility network ensures reasonable compatibility among all items. The experimental results show the superiority of our OutfitGAN.

Irrigation systems can vary widely in scale, from smallscale subsistence farming to large commercial agriculture (see Fig. 1 ). The heterogeneity in irrigation practices and systems across different regions adds to the complexity of mapping (see Fig. 1 ). Distinguishing between irrigated and non-irrigated areas is challenging due to the spectral characteristics of various irrigation systems and practices across different regions, further complicating the task of mapping different types of irrigation. For example, rainfed agriculture is prevalent in the Midwest, Southeast, and parts of the Northeast U.S., while irrigation is common in arid Western and Southwestern states. Rainfed farming can result in highly variable patterns of cultivation. Farmers may practice rainfed agriculture in some fields while irrigating others, leading to a complex mosaic of irrigated and non-irrigated areas within the same region. © 2024 ieee.

Interactive substitute recommendation for fashion products improves the online retail customer experience. Traditional fashion search platforms incorporate product metadata between the query products and the products to be retrieved. In this paper, we propose DAtRNet, an attribute representation network to disentangle the features in the query product. It is used to recommend attribute-aware substitute items based on the conditional similarity of the retrieved products. The proposed architecture relies on attribute-level similarity providing a fine-grained recommendation. In addition, a concurrent axial attention mechanism is proposed that generates global information embedding and adaptively re-calibrates the soft attention masks. Overall, the end-to-end framework enables the system to disentangle the attribute features and independently deals with them to enhance its flexibility towards one or multiple attributes. The proposed method outperforms the state-ofthe-art by a significant margin.

We analyze various factors affecting the proper functioning of MIA and MINT, two research lines aimed at detecting data used for training. The difference between these lines lies in the environmental conditions, while the fundamental bases are similar for both. As evident in the literature, this detection task is far from straightforward and poses an ongoing challenge for the scientific community. Specifically, in this work, we conclude that factors such as the number of times data passes through the original network, the loss function, or dropout significantly impact detection outcomes. Therefore, it is crucial to consider them when developing these methods and during the training of any neural network, both to avoid (MIA) and to enhance (MINT) this detection. We evaluate the AdaFace facial recognition model using five databases with over 22 million images, modifying the different factors under analysis and defining a suitable protocol for their examination. State-of-the-art accuracy reaching up to 87% is achieved, surpassing existing methods.
