cognitive styles shape how individuals process information, impacting their interactions with various forms of data, including visualizations. In this paper, we report a user study that explores the influence of two prominent cognitive styles, Field Dependence-Independence and Visualizer-Verbalizer, on the processing of privacy policy visualizations. In a between-subjects study, we investigate whether these cognitive styles affect processing time and cognitive load when users use differently visualized privacy policies. The results reveal differences among individuals with differing cognitive styles, especially regarding processing time, mental effort, and frustration. These results provide insights in shaping the design of more user-friendly and accessible privacy policy visualizations, contributing to enhanced user comprehension and engagement in digital security. Our study underscores the importance of considering cognitive diversity when developing interfaces for information-heavy domains, ultimately striving for more inclusive designs. © 2023 Owner/Author.

The prevailing pandemic scenario and the constant explosion of wireless devices lead to demand for a large spectrum. There is a crucial need for regular supervision of patient's health in these dire situations of a pandemic. This demands a smart solution for healthcare based on the latest technologies. This research work presents a detailed review of the latest advancements in the context of smart healthcare and medical imaging. This research work also proposes a novel framework for cognitive healthcare based on Deep Learning. A unique spectrum prediction model has been proposed that combines the Grey model and Long Short Term Memory functionalities and allocates spectrum to the patients according to their risk classification (high, medium, and low). This research work describes the distinct novel applications of cognitive radio, Deep learning, and the Internet of things in the Smart healthcare and Medical Imaging context. The proposed LSTM-Grey model has also been compared with existing spectrum sensing methodologies based on LSTM and CNN. All simulation results based on detection probability, false alarm probability and Accuracy of prediction indicate that LSTM-Grey model outperforms the existing solutions for healthcare system. The unique solution proposed based on the Grey model and LSTM for spectrum prediction enables transmission of medical data on free spectrum slots for real-time supervision of patient's health. The Deep Learning-based cognitive Healthcare system is a promising candidate for Smart Healthcare supporting swift diagnosis, tracking, and patient health supervision. © 2023 IEEE.

Existing satellite constellations typically lack on-orbit processing capabilities, and on-orbit data backhaul face to reliability and effiency challenges. Tiansuan constellation is with the capability of providing satellite edge computing services, which can support complex data coding transmission methods. To effectively support effective data backhaul for existing satellite constellations, we propose a reliable data transmission service in Tiansuan constellation. The service adopts the adaptive coding transmission strategy to adjust the optimal size of the encoded data packet according to real-time satellite network conditions. An adaptive encoding transmission approach is proposed to reduce end-to-end delay. Experimental results based on the ground simulation platform demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively reduce end-to-end delay and improve effective data transmission rate. © 2023 IEEE.

Urbanization's rapid progress has led to many big cities, which have modernized many people's lives but also engendered big challenges, such as air pollution, increased energy consumption and traffic congestion. Tackling these challenges were nearly impossible years ago given the complex and dynamic settings of cities. Nowadays, sensing technologies and large-scale computing infrastructures have produced a variety of big data in urban spaces, e.g., human mobility, air quality, traffic patterns, and geographical data. Motivated by the opportunities of building more intelligent cities, we came up with a vision of urban computing, which aims to unlock the power of knowledge from big and heterogeneous data collected in urban spaces and apply this powerful information to solve major issues our cities face today.

In the evolving field of cybersecurity, efficiently managing Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC) remains crucial due to complex attribute relationships. This paper introduces the ALBERT-PFN model, a novel access control attribute mining approach that employs deep learning to transform ABAC challenges into joint entity and relationship extraction tasks. The model leverages ALBERT for contextual word embeddings and a Positional Feature Network (PFN) that dynamically interprets relationships between entities, significantly enhancing both the accuracy and automation of attribute mining. Experimental results show that ALBERT-PFN achieves a precision of 88.13%, a recall of 91.80%, and an F1 score of 89.93% in entity recognition, outperforming existing methods. In relationship extraction, it further excels with a precision of 81.55%, a recall of 72.94%, and an F1 score of 77.01%, underscoring its effectiveness in developing dynamic and precise ABAC policies.

As a result of increased specialization due to the expansion of human knowledge, collaborative learning to acquire new knowledge is becoming important. In order to find partners for effective learning, organizations need to consider the optimal level of cognitive proximity considering the complexity of the field of collaboration. This study examines the two-sided effects of cognitive proximity in the context of collaborative innovation, focusing on the moderating effect of knowledge complexity. Utilizing USPTO patent data of US biotechnology sector, this research confirmed an inverse U-shaped effect of cognitive proximity on collaborative innovation. The optimal level of cognitive proximity increases with higher level of knowledge complexity, which shows positive moderating effect of complexity on the proximity effect. The marginal effect of cognitive proximity also increases in complex fields, indicating that proximity plays stronger role as knowledge complexity increases. This indicates that while cognitive proximity enhances knowledge absorption, the presence of knowledge complexity hinders knowledge diffusion. Organizations that share more complex knowledge can achieve optimal collaborative performance by partnering with cognitively close counterparts. However, collaboration performance is lower than lower complex fields, even if organization achieve optimal cognitive distance. These insights offer valuable implications for collaboration strategies for organizations and provide guidance for policymakers and stakeholders in fostering innovation networks and creating supportive ecosystems. © 2023 IEEE.

In cognitive Radio Network, Co-operative Spectrum Sensing (CSS) plays an important role. In CSS, each Secondary User (SU) submits their results to the Fusion Centre (FC). The FC performs the data fusion and generates a cooperative decision. It uses the hard combining technique to perform this data fusion. In hard combining OR rule, AND rule or maximum voting can be used. The OR rule is conservative, this can raise the false alarm probability. The AND rule is aggressive, this can raise the miss detection probability, and the maximum voting rule works on the majority of the SU result. In these cases, the probability of correct detection of Primary User (PU) signal reduces. To alleviate this problem, we have proposed a weighted strategy fusion decision technique for the FC in this paper. In this technique, the FC decides a weight factor for next sensing slot fusion decision, based on the present and previous spectrum sensing slots performance of the SUs. We compare the result of proposed weighted strategy fusion decision technique, with OR, AND and Maximum voting rule fusion decision techniques;where we found that the proposed technique offers better midway between aggressive AND and conservative OR than the simple Maximum voting rule. © Grenze Scientific Society, 2023.
