In recent years, there has been an increasing transition towards the Industry 5.0 paradigm, which focuses on technology and sustainability but also on the resilience and human-centricity of the production and logistics processes. These changes require investment in equipment, process change, and new skills. To avoid the mismatch between the skills required by industry and the skills offered by university courses, recently, learning factories (LFs) have been spread worldwide, aiming at promoting hand-on learning approaches to manufacturing, logistics and technological processes. This paper illustrates how LFs can support the development of contents and competencies useful in the transition to Industry 5.0 in the industrial engineering courses. Starting from the description of a LF installed in Italy, this study presents a systematisation of the contents that can be addressed by adopting LF in the design of learning modules specifically facing the requirements and skills of the different Industry 5.0 areas. Mixed reality as a tool for teaching has made only limited use of its possibilities so far. However, it brings a plethora of new opportunities, with benefits ranging from interactivity to more vividness. These factors could improve numerous areas of teaching. The mining sector would benefit from new methods combined with mixed reality especially. Therefore, the MiReBooks project was launched: Various applications have been developed that can vividly present content using 3D models, virtual field trips and other methods. To verify and further improve these tools, an evaluation phase was conducted. During two test lectures in distancelearning, a total of 23 participants answered a posttest questionnaire. The results showed that the teaching quality could be maintained well by the mixed reality application even in distancelearning. Students were satisfied with the methods used, attributed good usability to the tool, and felt integrated into the classroom. At the same time, the team realized that the quality of the lesson depends heavily on the quality of the materials and the expertise of the lecturer. It also became clear that other factors, such as the technical infrastructure and support, are particularly important in this format.

The learning environment and the interaction with the teacher and other students are different. distancelearning typically gives students flexibility, s uch a s in terms of their study schedules. For these reasons, in distancelearning, it is important for students to be able to independently study, do tasks, and manage their own time. distancelearning also requires increased self-motivation. For this research, master's-level computer science students took the Fisher self-directed learning readiness (SDLR) test to assess their level of self-direction. The results show that the level of student self-direction in the adult distancelearning program is very high. The study examined student performance in distancelearning courses in relation to SDLR scores. SDLR scores were not found to correlate with academic achievement when success was examined in terms of grades and course completion. The only difference between the different performers was found in the subscale of self-management, which includes time management, systematic thinking, and the ability to take responsibility for the progress of one's own learning. Although the difference was not statistically significant, the results s uggest t hat f actors related to time and daily life management could have an impact on learning outcomes, However, they alone do not explain learning outcomes, and other factors may also be involved.
