Robotics is a rapidly emerging technology in the automation industry, and small-scale robotics is becoming increasingly prevalent in automation applications. Small-scale robotics can be used to automate a variety of manufacturing processes, such as assembly, welding, and painting. Small-scale robotics can be used to improve efficiency and reduce labor costs, allowing companies to produce products faster and more reliably with fewer resources. Small-scale robots are typically designed with a smaller size and weight than traditional industrial robots, making them suitable for applications with limited space and weight requirements. Small-scale robots are capable of performing a wide range of tasks, including pick-and- place operations, vision-guided navigation, logistics, and even complex manipulation tasks. Small-scale robots can provide a number of benefits to automation operations. For example, they can reduce labor costs by automating manual tasks. Small-scale robots are also capable of performing highly accurate and repeatable tasks, which can improve the quality of products. Additionally, small-scale robots can be used to increase throughput and reduce cycle times, enabling companies to produce more products in less time. © 2023 IEEE.

The paper presents part of the work fulfilled under the Asean Factori 4.0 Erasmus+ project focused on the implementation of industrial automation in the education in 6 universities from 3 countries in South-East Asia: Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. The implementation of the project tasks, related to increasing the capacity and more precisely to the training of the professors from the Asian Universities is presented. According to the planned activities, professors from the University of Ruse conduct training for teachers from two universities: Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and Savannakhet University, Laos. The phases of training included in the project activities and how many of them have already been implemented are briefly presented. The program and the tasks of the teachers practical training for building the necessary teaching capacity in Savannakhet University and implementation of sustainable training in the field of industrial automation were presented and analyzed. Conclusions and future training of the staff of Asian universities planned under the project are presented in the paper. © 2023 IEEE.

Blockchain technology is a paradigm of distributed systems, and its consistency problem is solved by consensus algorithms. This paper summarizes the existing consensus algorithms and divides them into three types: proof, voting, and Paxos-like. The implementation methods and advantages and disadvantages of some representative algorithms among the three types of consensus algorithms are introduced. Finally, the research hotspots and development directions of consensus algorithms in terms of performance and scalability are pointed out. © 2023 SPIE. All rights reserved.

Serial peripheral interface, a term originally coined by Motorola in the 1980s, serves as a protocol facilitating the communication of serial synchronous data between a master device, often a microcontroller, and various peripherals. These peripherals encompass a broad range, including EEPROMs (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory), sensors, cards and more. Functioning as a full-duplex serial protocol, SPI (Serial peripheral interface) involves transmission and reception of synchronous serial data. This document elucidates the operational intricacies and distinctive features of the SPI Interface Protocol, focusing on a configuration with one master and one slave. In this setup, master device orchestrates communication, dictating the timing and flow of data, while slave device responds to master's commands. Understanding working principles and characteristics of SPI is paramount for its effective implementation in diverse applications. © 2024 IEEE.

In past two decades, the popularity and use of autonomous vehicles and driver assistance systems has accelerated due to the advancement in artificial intelligence techniques, big data analysis, machine learning, computer vision, smart sensors and Internet of Things (IoT). Autonomous vehicles (AVs) are gaining popularity because it reduces traffic congestion along with increase in safety and fuel efficiency. The present paper focuses on the functionality of the driver-less car and Advanced Driver & Driving Assistance Systems (ADDAS). Driver assistance systems help drivers to driving safely by avoiding and minimising distractions by observing their actions. Artificial Intelligence can be incorporated when AVs drive alongside human-driven vehicles (HVs), also known as the era of Mixed Autonomy. The Markov decision process (MDP) can be used to represent the communication between the driver-less vehicles and the surroundings, where, MDP is a discrete-time imaginary command process. MDP is utilized in various fields like automation, economics, manufacturing, and automatic control. This paper provides a detailed review on recent research and developments on autonomous vehicles and ADDAS. Some onfield examples of ADDAS are Automatic Parking, Automatic Braking System (ABS), Blind Spot Monitors, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), etc. © 2023 IEEE.

Artificial neural networks are used in various fields of human activity, including information and computer security, for example, in biometric systems such as face and fingerprint recognition. However, in the field of visual analysis of security incident data, it is assumed that the visualization is intended for the human operator since the person makes the final decision. This paper investigates whether computer vision systems can perform the tasks of a human operator during visual data analysis. To study the question posed, the paper proposes a model architecture for classifying visualizations of traffic with anomalies and normal traffic. Experiments were also carried out using a neural network and involving subjects. Experiments show that a trained neural network can recognize anomalies in images with visualization of security events and, in some cases, even better than a human. © 2023 IEEE.

A time-synchronized controller is proposed to solve the time-varying constrained reorientation problem. Time-Synchronized Stability (TSS) that considers the interrelationships among different state errors plays an important role in our method, enabling synchronized convergence of individual error components while ensuring compliance with state constraints. Compared to traditional sliding mode controllers, the efficiency of our safety-critical attitude controller is imporoved without adding computational burden, as evidenced by improved control energy consumption and reduced convergence time. A hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) experiment confirms its practical deployment capabilities. © 2024 IEEE.

To improve the accuracy and robustness of existing speech denoising methods, this study proposes an adaptive speech noise reduction method based on noise classification. First, to adapt to different time-varying characteristics of various noises in complex environments, a new acoustic feature matrix is constructed by combining the LogFbank features and the perceptual linear prediction coefficients, and a noise classifier based on the support vector machine is designed to classify the experimental noise. Then, to address the problem of 'music noise' in traditional speech denoising methods, the voice activity detection threshold is adaptively updated according to the judgment result of background noise types, and the optimal parameters for the improved minima controlled recursive averaging noise estimation algorithm are obtained to accurately estimate current noise and reduce it. Finally, the performance of the proposed method is evaluated using a serial of experiments on different situations, and the experimental results prove the effectiveness and feasibility of our proposed method in this study. © 2023 IEEE.

The technological infrastructure provided by cloud providers, and used as a deployment platform, allows GIS to take advantage of its high storage and processing capacities;while the use of IoT devices allows the automation of the data collection process. However, the current implementations are carried out in an ad hoc manner, without providing solutions that facilitate their design, implementation and reuse. In this work, we propose a development approach that, based on models that describe at a high level of abstraction, both the system architecture and the interaction between its services and IoT devices, allows guiding the implementation and deployment activities in cloud environments. This has been illustrated with the design and implementation of a GIS application analyse the collected spatial data with air quality sensors and were deployed on the Google Cloud platform. © 2024, CRC Press/Balkema.
