National traditional culture and traditional technology are the products of historical precipitation and indispensable precious resources. The establishment of national cultural database is of great significance for the protection and inheritance of cultural heritage. Aiming at the specific functional requirements of traditional cultural digital protection system for image segmentation and retrieval, this paper focuses on the common algorithms of image segmentation and feature matching. This paper analyzes and compares the applicability and processing effect of each algorithm in ethnic patterns. EGBIS image segmentation algorithm and shape context feature matching algorithm are used to achieve high precision image processing. This paper designs and implements a national culture retrieval system that meets the application needs. Combined with the image characteristics of ethnic patterns and the application requirements of the system, this paper defines the concepts of source images, primitives and hyperprimitives, and establishes a relational database based on them. This study has laid a certain theoretical foundation for the study of digital inheritance of national culture. © 2025 SPIE.

The accuracy of digital image recognition determines the effectiveness of the medical diagnosis, so medical image preprocessing requirements are more demanding. Applying Python library functions for image enhancement enables early detection of medical issues and precise localization of affected areas, enhancing image clarity and improved outcomes. It is a tool for improving and transforming the way the images become useful for visual presentation and analysis. To improve image quality, the major objective is to reduce noises, which require the use of filters. By adopting methods including contrast enhancement, histogram equalizer and spatial filtering, this study attempts to create noise-free images that enhance visual impact and support more accurate analysis. This paper demonstrates the execution of multiple image operations in Python through the utilization of functions. This approach aims to enable image processing and python programming concepts easier to analysis of medical images to achieve higher level of accuracy. © 2025 the Author(s).

The process that produces written descriptions that effectively represent the meaning and context of an image is known as image captioning. To integrate visual and textual data, it needs to blend computer vision and natural language processing methods. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and recurrent neural networks (RNNs), such as long-short-term memory (LSTM) networks, are two methods used for captioning images. High-level visual features from the input image are extracted by the CNN, and the RNN uses those features to generate the matching captions. Residual Network is a deep CNN architecture with exceptional results in a range of computer vision tasks, including the classification of images. ResNet has been used as the foundation for extracting picture features. ResNet and CNN abstracts an image's visual information via feature extraction and uses neural networks with recurrent architecture to provide meaningful, contextually appropriate captions. Machines are now able to comprehend and speak about the visual world in a manner similar to humans because of the integration of computer vision and natural language processing. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Due to the complex nature of the underwater environment, underwater images often suffer from degradation issues such as low contrast, blurring, and color distortion. Obtaining clear underwater images is crucial for advancements in marine development. While existing convolution-based methods for underwater image enhancement have shown efficient improvement in visual quality, they still exhibit deficiencies in two key aspects: the ability to capture contextual information and the issue of information redundancy during image reconstruction. In this work, we propose MAGAN-UIE, an novel generative adversarial network for underwater image enhancement. MAGAN-UIE leverages dilated convolutions and depth-wise convolutions to enable efficient extraction of local features and contextual information. Furthermore, the model incorporates multiple attention mechanisms to mitigate information redundancy. Our extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method achieves significant improvements in underwater image enhancement, as evidenced by both visual inspection and quantitative evaluation metrics. © 2025 SPIE.

To address the challenges of image encryption and decryption in the field of information security, this paper proposes a multi-channel fusion image encryption and decryption algorithm based on DNA sequences. Initially, a random key is generated using the Chen chaotic system. This key is then combined with eight DNA mapping methods that comply with the Watson-Crick rule to encode the original image data and a disordered matrix, resulting in corresponding base sequences. Boolean operations are performed on these base sequences, and the results are decoded using the DNA mapping methods to obtain the encrypted image. Finally, the encrypted image undergoes analysis for information entropy and gray value correlation. Simulation results demonstrate that transforming the three-dimensional matrix of a color image into a two-dimensional matrix for data processing significantly enhances encryption performance.

To prevent image distortion, this paper explores methods for enhancing and optimizing graphic design images using 3D laser vision technology. The process involves collecting graphic design image data, mapping 3D laser information onto the surface of the image to form an information map, and utilizing this data for locally weighted complexity processing. A histogram of the graphic design image is constructed, followed by scanning and grayscale transformation to eliminate noise. The image histogram is then segmented using a block-based local enhancement method to achieve the optimization and enhancement of the graphic design image. Experimental results show that under different noise standard deviations, the average peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of the proposed method is 36.62 dB, and the average structural similarity index (SSIM) is 0.9526. This method effectively reduces noise and enhances the visual quality of graphic design images, improving the ability of the human eye to discriminate information in these images. © 2025 SPIE.

With the development of Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC), fake image detection has become increasingly challenging. Also leveraging the advanced capabilities of large language models (LLMs) in sequence prediction, we propose a novel perspective on fake image detection by fine-tuning pure LLMs. We introduce Fake-GPT, a LLM with 7 billion parameters which can differentiate between real and fake images. Unlike conventional image processing models, our approach directly process RGB pixel values without relying on any position embedding and visual-language feature alignment, thereby reducing model complexity and processing steps. Our research demonstrates the effective application of LLMs in detecting fake images, thereby expanding their application in non-textual domains. Extensive experiments conducted on various deepfake datasets show that Fake-GPT achieves competitive results compared with conventional image processing models, underscoring its potential as a new paradigm in the realm of image authentication.

Text-to-image methods have shown impressive results, allowing casual users to generate high quality images by providing textual descriptions. Main text-to-image methods base on Generative Adversarial Network and diffusion models, show better results in terms of fidelity and novelty, but lack customization and multi-attribute fusion. This paper presents a text-to-image customization method that generate customized images fusing multiple attributes based on textual descriptions. Users guide image-generation with natural language without changing the properties of the attribute. New images change the appearance, pose, and context drastically. In this paper, we use the cross-attention mechanism to effectively capture the hierarchical relationships between text and images, guide image-generation through diffusion model in the process of multi-attribute fusion, and present the effect of customized images with multi-attribute fusion. Experiment show that, generated images exhibit good visual fidelity, novelty, and text alignment, and meet the customized needs of users. © 2025 SPIE.

Detection of defects in wooden structures in the forestry industry has become a crucial area of research. Existing studies have focused on specific categories of wood defects, failing to provide a comprehensive classification for high-quality wood. Trained human operators currently perform a variety of wood quality in wood processing facilities. However, this human-dependent process leads to time and performance losses and inaccurate type. This study aims to address all these challenges in future intelligent production systems by targeting the detection of the fungus in oak wood, one of the wood defect classes. The algorithm created based on image processing utilizes median filtering, Canny edge detection, and masking technologies using the HSV color space. The algorithm then calculates the fungal area ratio to the wooden piece's surface area on the masked image to reach the final result. While existing studies in the literature are primarily based on deep learning methods, there has been limited focus on fungus detection. The novelty of this study, conducted on oak wood, lies in its use of a specific dataset, fungal detection, and image processing. An algorithm has been developed and presented in the literature that can be used in the software of future intelligent production systems in the forestry industry.
