In this paper, starting from the experimental data obtained with an empirical measurement device developed for this purpose, it has been determined a simple and accurate model (based on a small number of parameters) that allows to represent the relative magnetic permeability of the magnetorheological fluids as a function of the magnetic field in which it is immersed in. the model thus obtained is in excellent agreement withthe experimental data. With a precautionary approach, charging processes are assumed non-preemptable. the paper presents an ongoing research project aimed towards the development of an approach to modeling of information spreading in complex organizations during providing service to customers and performing domain-specific business processes (BP). the approach is based on the idea of information spreading modeling and includes the view of this process in three main levels (physical, informational, and technical). the multi-layer view enables the integration and automation of obtained models in order to resolve domain-specific tasks of BP understanding, optimization, and extension. Two domain-specific case studies from healthcare and HR-management were considered within the approach proposing a way to resolve existing problems.

the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) algorithm is a representative high order method in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) area which possesses considerable mathematical advantages such as high resolution, low dissipation, and dispersion. However, DG is rather computationally intensive to demonstrate practical engineering problems. this paper discusses the implementation of our in-house practical DG application in three different programming models, as well as some optimization techniques, including grid renumbering and mixed precision to maximize the performance improvements in a single node system. the experiment on CPU and GPU shows that our CUDA, OpenACC, and OpenMP-based code obtains a maximum speedup of 42.9x, 35.3x, and 8.1x compared with serial execution by the original application, respectively. Besides, we systematically compare the programming models in two aspects: performance and productivity. Our empirical conclusions facilitate the programmers to select the right platform with a suitable programming model according to their target applications.

An increasing number of electric vehicles (EVs) will be charged/discharged in EV charging stations (EVCSs) in distribution systems. Grid-2-vehicle (G2V) and vehicle-2-grid (V2G) operation of EVs are economically and technically rewarding only when an optimal G2V/V2G strategy is properly developed. In this study, a scheduling scheme is developed which mainly focus on guaranteeing the rewards of all agents (e.g EVs, EVCSs, and electricity suppliers (ESs)) participating in V2G and G2V operation. Based on the proposed strategy, EVs independently plan their charging/discharging depending on the shortest driving route and cost/benefit offered by EVCSs. Furthermore, each EVCS finds the best ES to purchase electricity from the wholesale market. the benefits of all agents in EV's V2G and G2V operation are taken into account by formulating three optimization problems. Each problem belongs to each agent. To implement the proposed strategy, a cloud scheduling system is operated to collect required information from all agents, solve the optimization problems, and ultimately send the results to relevant agents. Optimal hourly electricity prices are determined for the three agents. For simulation purposes, nine EVCSs and three ESs are facilitated for charging/discharging of EVs to visualize and validate the modeling results. the results show that by implementing the proposed strategy, the cost of EVs decreases by 18%, and the revenues of EVCSs and ESs are raised by 21% and 23%, respectively, compared to the case in which EVs do not use the proposed strategy in EV's V2G and G2V operation.

Graphics processing units (GPUs) are widely used in the area of scientific computing. While GPUs provide much higher peak performance, efficient implementation of real applications on the GPU architectures is still a non-trivial task. It is crucial to realize efficient solution algorithms that can better utilize GPU architectures. this paper presents our efforts in parallelizing and optimizing LESAP, a CFD application for scramjet combustion simulation, on NVIDIA GPUs. the GPU parallelization is realized based on the CUDA programming model, with a data-parallel implicit time-marching method that is efficient on the GPU architecture. Furthermore, shared memory and redundant calculation are proposed to reduce memory access overhead during GPU computation, and data transfer between CPU and GPU is optimized by packing the data to be transferred. the experimental results show that the GPU version, when runs on four V100 GPUs, achieves a speedup of 11.26 times compared to the CPU version that runs on two 24-core Intel Skylake Gold 6240R CPUs. Excellent parallel scalability across multiple GPUs is also observed.

this paper selects passengers of the horizontal passageway in the airport landside automatic people mover (APM) system as the research object, and studies the passenger's pace characteristics of the horizontal passageway in the airport landside APM system and the impact of carrying different types of trolley case baggage on passenger's pace. through field surveys, the statistics of passengers carrying baggage are analyzed, and then the overall passenger's pace characteristics in the passageway are analyzed, and the pace characteristics of passengers carrying different types of luggage are compared and analyzed. the conclusions of this paper cannot only provide a basis for the calculation of the passageway capacity, passageway design and optimization, and passenger flow organization in the landside APM system, but also enrich the researches on the factors affecting passenger's pace, and provide basic parameters for passenger microscopic simulation and passenger flow evacuation modeling.

this paper presents an optimization-based hierarchical motion planning and control architecture for autonomous racing that enables fast feedback times without significantly compromising on model accuracy. the online control scheme is divided into a high level NMPC for time-optimal trajectory planning and a low level NMPC for trajectory tracking using the same vehicle model. We numerically validate our approach in terms of computational efficiency and closed-loop performance in a detailed vehicle dynamics simulation environment. Despite considerable model-plant mismatches, the proposed hierarchical NMPC controller achieves a driven lap time in simulation which is only marginally slower than the theoretically optimal trajectory calculated offline via Optimal Control.
