Anguilliform locomotion is a highly efficient swimming mode;the advent of new materials for soft robots enables the development of an eel-inspired soft robot. this paper presents a simulation model of an eel-inspired soft robot designed for anguilliform swimming. this model can aid in design optimization and the development of model-based estimation, reasoning, and control systems. A Finite Element Method (FEM) model of an elastic rod is used to capture the soft materials of the robotic fish, which makes it particularly amenable to variation over time as the material properties change. the material model is coupled with a hydrodynamic force model to simulate the behavior of a soft, elongated robot in water. the model is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control approaches in achieving desired swimming behaviors. It also provides insights into design decisions, including the robustness of different system configurations and the impact of material degradation and failure. the results show that slightly asymmetric designs are advantageous, offering comparable swimming velocities but greater maneuverability. this model can be used to guide future robotic design decisions aimed at optimizing performance for specific tasks.

this paper addresses the feasibility of an optimizationsystem for a walking assist robot worn on the lower limb, which can reflect the user's intention to shorten the travel time and walk with less effort. In this optimizationsystem, an evaluation index is defined based on travel time per unit distance and energy consumption of joint motion, and the index is represented as a function of step length and pitch during walking. the optimizationsystem was designed to be real-time by employing a method to mechanically calculate the energy consumption from the measured joint motions. the results of the evaluation indices for walking without and with assist force showed that the optimal gait changes when the robot adds a part of the joint torque required for walking to the user, and that the value of the evaluation index becomes smaller.

Production planning and optimization of bidding strategies play an important role in modern electricity markets with a high share of renewable energy. this decision-making requires detailed electricity market models estimating and forecasting the underlying parameters. the ongoing implementation of the flow-based market coupling in the Nordic region poses a challenge to current models as it introduces detailed transmission constraints based on power transfer distribution factors. the analysis and modelling are challenging since the official static grid models are not available for the region. Moreover, the physical location of many anonymized network elements is unknown. this study uses open data to construct a detailed grid model and proposes algorithms for anonymous grid elements identification, generation shift keys adjustment, and prediction of changes in transmission constraints due to grid changes. the proposed models were tested, and the results were validated using open data available from JAO.

the European energy transition requires the expansion of renewable generators and consequently, the expansion of grid infrastructure and flexibility options. When modelling complex energy systems, the application of decomposition techniques is reasonable to keep models computationally tractable. Our paper focuses on the efficient optimization of energy systems covering large geographic areas. To accelerate the solving process, we apply a variant of Benders decomposition, which does not only apply temporal but also spatial decomposition. We show that by applying our decomposition approach, the solving time decreases up to 75% compared to the runtime of the equivalent monolithic model solved by a commercial solver and the barrier algorithm. Furthermore, we show that additionally applying spatial decomposition results in time savings compared to an only temporally decomposed approach.

the integration of renewables and distributed energy resources (DERs) in the power system requires enhanced flexibility to mitigate the intermittency of renewables. Certain DERs contribute significantly to this flexibility. this paper proposes a two-stage stochastic optimization framework that considers the interaction between transmission and distribution system operators under the uncertainty of wind and solar power. In the first stage, the framework determines the unit commitment and operation levels of conventional generation units. In the second stage, the realization of renewables is accounted for, relying on flexibility from conventional power generation, centralized storage, distributed generation, decentralized storage, and demand response to manage variability. the analysis assesses the impact of varying DER capacities on system costs under different uncertainty levels. Results indicate economic benefits from coordinated power system operations with increasing DER capacities and a higher share of renewable energy sources.

this study presents a sparse identification approach for modeling dynamic systems, leveraging data from a transient multiphase flow simulator, OLGA. the Sparse Identification of Nonlinear Dynamics (SINDy) methodology is applied, employing two optimization methods: Sequential thresholded Least Squares (STLS) and a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP)-based approach. the MILP-based method, featuring a cardinality constraint, represents a pioneering advancement in system identification techniques. Key findings include the importance of variable normalization for model accuracy, the role of cross-validation in hyperparameter selection for optimal model structure, and the exploration of the trade-off between sparsity and generalization. Results obtained for a reference case of transient water flow subject to many boundary conditions (or controls) validate the identified model's ability to represent observed data in OLGA accurately.

Aiming to improve the efficiency of the industry park's integrated energy system and reduce carbon emissions, this paper adopts dynamic pricing and carbon tax mechanisms. Utilizing game theory, a leader-follower game framework is constructed withthe energy system operator (ESO) as the leader and building users as followers. through the integration of dynamic pricing and carbon tax model, the paper demonstrates notable improvements in economic and low-carbon performance within the energy system. Consequently, in this paper, it provides valuable support for sustainable energy development and economic operations in a low-carbon economy. the findings underscore the potential of dynamic pricing and carbon tax mechanisms as integral contributors to achieving a more sustainable and economically efficient energy landscape.

A newly developed framework for spatially resolved optimization of hydrogen systems is presented. It enables realistic representation of the whole value chain with different electricity sources and transport technologies that are optimized for every location and connection. the nonlinear structure enables realistic physical properties and economies of scale but increases the difficulties in parametrization of the system and optimization algorithm. three scenarios have been modelled to analyze the influence of electricity and hydrogen import options. Using grid electricity to increase electrolyzer full load hours and reduce storage requirements enables significant economic advantageous. Furthermore, for the selected study region, hydrogen transport is cheaper than electricity transmission as trailers can be shared within the region and pipelines installed to supply large demands. therefore, electrolyzers are primarily installed at site of high potential for renewable electricity generation.

In this paper is investigated the ability of multi-energy systems (MESs) in acquiring resources from energy markets to supply the demand and supporting system Operators (Transmission/Distribution) by providing flexibility. the participation of MESs in multiple markets represents an opportunity and it is expected that market rules are designed to ease their involvement. the paper offers an overview of the simulations of a MES participating in multiple markets. the MES acquires resources for supplying the demand in the (very) short term (i.e., the day-ahead and intra-day) on energy markets, where acts as balance responsible party (BRP). On energy markets the MES purchases the cheapest resources to supply the demand and sells the production excesses at the highest prices. Furthermore, the MES participates in flexibility markets to increase its revenue and offer a support to system operators facing safety and reliability issues. A co-optimization Mixed Integer Linear Programming endowed with a flexibility model was implemented to carry on the simulations of participation in multi-markets and the economic indicator was adopted for the assessment phase. A district heating system operating in the Milan area was adopted as real MES to be simulated.
