A distributed energy system (DES) is a system comprising a set of energy suppliers, consumers, and equipments onsite near the loads. Integrated energy systems (IES) can be served as the key components of DES, which offer the potential for a significant increase in fuel use efficiency and decrease in environmental impact by generating electrical power and recycling the exhaust gas for heating and cooling. Natural gas is a latent substitute for coal and oil with the advantages of high combustion value and low waste emission. In this paper, a typical model of IES based on cooling, heating and power fired by natural gas is presented. It consists of a natural gas-fired microturbine-generator (MTG), an absorption chiller and a heat recovery exchanger. Natural gas is first used to produce electrical power through the MTG, the exhaust gas is then used to drive the chiller to provide cooling for air-conditioner, the flue gas in the end is used to produce domestic hot water. In this model, electrical power, cooling and heating are produced simultaneously with high overall efficiency, and all the possible usages of the energy resource are taken into account. Energy efficiency, exergy efficiency, exergy loss and operational cost are defined and analyzed. these analyses permit direct evaluation and improvement of the thermodynamic efficiency and performance of the IES. A conclusion is that natural gas can economically and environment-soundly substitute coal or oil for fuel with the advanced IES to provide energy consumptions for domestic residences, hotels, business (commercial) buildings, or the complexes because of the existence of balance between power and thermal demands.

the machines for energy conversion such as the internal combustion engines, motors and pumps (pneumatic, hydraulic and electric), aerogenerators, etc., dissipate heat due to friction on its mechanical articulations and sliding surfaces. this involves a rise in temperature that modifies the mechanical play in the guidance and accentuates the wearing of materials. Bearings are the most frequently used components to ensure the mechanical guidance of different elements. We propose in the present work an analytical solution to evaluate the temperatures reached in the different parts of a bearing. We consider a cylindrical roller bearing whose interior ring is in continuous rotation and the external ring is fixed. Heat is generated by friction between ring and rollers and is then evacuated through the solid pieces and the surrounding fluid. We take into account the imperfect nature of the solid-to-solid contact and the relative mobility of the solids respect to this contact. By means of the proposed analytical solution, we can determine the distribution of the flow generated by friction, the flash temperature at contact and the thermal cartographies for the different solid pieces. A study of sensitivity is also carried out in order to analyse the influence of the physical parameters on the thermal behaviour of the bearing.

At the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21 th, ontologies have emerged as an important and increasing interest research area in a variety of academic setting. Strides in information technology and improvements in networking technology have driven these paces for rapid growth in new applications of web learning. the main purpose of this study was twofold. First, it adopted the theory of task ontology to build up a three-level mediating representation for a task analysis and the task of "Knowledge Network Learning Diagnosis Analysis system (KNLDAS)" will serve as an example. Second, from modeling standpoint, a methodology, called TTIPP (Task analysis, Task ontology, IDEF0 model, Petri net model, and PNML), was provided to systemically analyze the process of the task and subtask, in terms of the inputs, outputs, mechanisms, controls, using IDEFO and Petri net to further transfer context for computer to generate code. © 2007 IEEE.

Although steam generators require large equipment investments in the sugar manufacturing industry, it is usual in Brazil that existing systems present low thermal efficiency. Due to the necessary cost reduction and better utilization in cogeneration plants, the performance improvement has become essential and consequently new systems showed up technical and economically feasibility. Some measures related to the use of gas exit flow have been adopted to heat the inlet water and the combustion air, as to reduce the fuel moisture in order to increase the steam generator efficiency using economizers, pre-heaters and bagasse dryers. the main purpose of this work is to evaluate the advantages of those accessories using thermoeconomic analysis in steam generator of sugar cane industry. Simulations were performed to compare those equipments and other possible influence variables as air excess are also included. the results allowed to quantify and to compare them in relation to the bagasse consumption, energetic and exergetic efficiency, and thermoeconomic cost, thus showing that it is possible to employ the fuel in more rational ways when these equipments are applied. therefore, it is concluded that industries intending to recover the heat of gas exit flow must study and evaluate more accurately the possible options, before choosing the economizer or air pre-heating as it is usually done. Although bagasse dryer is commonly the last application option, it can present better performance and lower fuel consumption. Finally, the results show that thermoeconomics is an effective method for this evaluation.

the judgment that whether an email is spam or non-spam may vary from person to person. Different individuals can have totally different responses to the same email based on their preferences. this paper presents an innovative approach that incorporates user preferences to construct an anti-spam mail system, which is different from the conventional content-based approaches. We OF build a user preference ontology to formally represent the important concepts and rules derived from a data mining process. then we use an inference engine that utilizes the knowledge to predict the user's action on new incoming emails. We also suggest a new rule optimization procedure inspired from logic synthesis to improve comprehensibility and exclude redundant rules. Experimental results showed that our user preference based architecture achieved good performance and the rules derived from the architecture and the optimization method have better quality in terms of comprehensibility.

Combinatorial optimization problems are embedded in dynamic environments, spanning many domains. As these problem environments may change repeatedly, agents that attempt to solve problems in such environments must be able to adapt to each change that occurs. We present a technique for a Tabu Search-based meta-heuristic agent that collaborates with a truth maintenance agent to maximize reuse of generated solutions that may become partially inconsistent when a change occurs in the problem space. By allowing the truth maintenance agent to perform partial plan repairs, we hope to mitigate the effect that a change has on the performance of the planning agent. Such a system is discussed in a global logistics scheduling program. the performance of our approach is analyzed with respect to a dynamic constrained vehicle routing problem. Our results show that partial plan repairs increase the stability of solutions in dynamic domains.

Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation can be utilized to deal with severe channel conditions without complex equalization. However, in a fast-fading channel, Doppler spread caused by user mobility destroys the orthogonality among subcarriers, prompting intercarrier interference (ICI). In this paper, the OFDM ICI reduction problem is formulated as a combinatorial optimization problem. Two relaxation methods are proposed to relax the maximum-likelihood detection problem into convex quadratic programming (QP) problems. To further reduce computational complexity, the QP problems are solved by limiting the search to the two-dimensional subspace. A low-bit descent search can also be employed to improve the system performance. the extension to higher-order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) OFDM systems is also addressed. Performance results are given which demonstrate that the integer QP relaxation-based algorithms provide excellent performance with reasonable computational complexity.

Modern system-on-chips (SoCs) are often designed under stringent time to market constraints. Hence, they are realized by reusing a number of predesigned components (or IP blocks) that implement standard, yet critical functions. An important category of IP blocks are the so called infrastructure IP (IIP) blocks, which include interfaces to off chip memory, I/O devices, and peripherals, as well as hardware to provide DMA transfers, interrupts, timing, etc. IIP components are often responsible for a substantial portion of a SoC's power consumption, making it important to model and consider their effect in power aware SoC design. However, system level power analysis and optimization has, for the most part, focused on the processor, memory hierarchy, interconnect, and application specific hardware. Relatively little work has addressed modeling the power consumed by these infrastructure IP (IIP) components, or their impact on system level tradeoffs. this paper describes a systematic methodology to automatically generate power models for IIP components for use in system level power analysis and optimization tools. Our methodology starts with (i) a high level functional model of an IIP component designed for fast simulation, and (ii) a corresponding implementation model (RTL or gate level description), from which accurate power estimates can be obtained. It automatically generates an enhanced version of the high level functional model, which includes an accurate, yet efficient power model. this paper describes the key steps of the methodology, and presents techniques based on statistical analysis and symbolic regression to automate the most labor intensive steps. the proposed methodology has been applied to several commercial IIP designs, including ones from the Synopsys Design Ware library. the resulting power models produce estimates that are within 7% of gate level power analysis, while being several hundred times faster, making them highly suitable for system level powe

High-performance circuit optimization and synthesis should consider parasitic effects. this paper introduces techniques for parasitic estimation and fast parasitic optimization based on symbolic sensitivity analysis. An effective framework to incorporate parasitic modeling and optimization is presented in order to account for parasitic effects during synthesis. In this paper we primarily focus on using efficient symbolic sensitivity analysis based on element-coefficient diagrams (ECD) to evaluate the dominant parasitic effects so as to eliminate insignificant parasitics. An ECD is the cancellation-free and per-coefficient term generation version of determinant decision diagrams (DDDs). In this paper, parasitic-aware analog circuit synthesis methodology is proposed. the accuracy and efficiency of the parasitic-inclusive optimization have been demonstrated
