this paper describes a Korean continuous speech recognition system using phone based semi-continuous hidden Markov model (SCHMM) method for the Automatic Interpretation. the task domain is hotel reservation. the system has the following three features. First, an embedded bootstrapping training method that enables us to train each phone model without phoneme segmentation database is used. Second, a hybrid estimation method which is composed of the forward-backward algorithm and the Viterbi algorithm is proposed for the HMM parameter estimation. third, a between-word modeling technique is used at function word boundaries. the recognition results in speaker independent experiments are as follows. In the case of Version 1, continuous speech recognition result is 89.1% and in Version 2, the result is 97.6%.

In this work, we propose a robust recursive procedure based on WRLS algorithm with VFF and frame-based quadratic classifier for identification of non-stationary AR model of speech production system. Also, two versions of the frame-based quadratic classifier design procedure, iterative quadratic classifications procedure (CIQC) and its real-time modification (RTQC), are considered. A comparative experimental analysis is done according to the results obtained in analyzing speech signal with voiced and mixed excitation segments. Experimental results justify that two main problems of LPC speech analysis, non-stationarity of LPC parameters and non-appropriateness of AR modeling of speech (particularly on the voiced frames), can be solved by application of the proposed robust procedure. As for the comparison of CIQC and RTQC algorithm, it has been observed that superior results are obtained by using the proposed method with RTQC algorithm and it is recommended for use in the non-stationary AR speech model identification.

For a system consisting of N stations connected by a multiaccess network the optimal, quasistatic, iterative, distributed load balancing algorithm for a general system-wide cost function is set up. the algorithm is based on the gradient projection optimization method using information about sensitivity of the performance measure with respect to the task flows. this paper describes two focal issues: visual query optimization and concurrency control in designing OOIM, which is an object-oriented database management system being developed at KAIST. the basic principles for optimization are to build a framework on a formal algebraic basis and to operate directly with graph-based query specifications. the philosophy behind these principles is to utilize existing relational technology in supporting a graph-based object-oriented query language. For concurrency control, the principles of modeling method hierarchy as a nested transaction, exploiting semantics of methods, and dynamic determination of conflicts resulting from referential sharing are used. the basic idea is to enhance the degree of concurrency without allowing a non-serializable schedule.

Various optimizationsystems have been developed and used for optimizing the production, transportation, sale and investment in varies industries including the cement industry. this paper the following attempts two trials for these optimization and control systems: (1) Many optimizationsystems are individually optimized, however, they are closely related to each other at various levels. It is, therefore, necessary to integrate those systems if necessary, viewing from the standpoint of the optimization of the whole company. (2) the performance of individual optimizationsystem largely depends upon the accuracy of the input information. It is, however, difficult to obtain the accurate present values of the input information when they are time variant and are observed with noises. the authors propose the pretreatment of input information withthe Kalman filter and the applications of it are introduced. this method is also effective for meeting one of the requirements of the ISO 9000 series in the calibration of the instruments.
