In the status selection planning system, which is one of planning expert systems proposed our research group, the most promising status from tentative statuses that are generated by applying the dispatching rule is selected by a status selection rule. As the dispatching rules and the status selection knowledge are independent, so that it is easy to change the knowledge-base. though quality of the solution depends on the status selection rule, however, it is difficult to acquire a excellent status selection rule. this paper presents an extended method of the status selection that can deal with multiple status selection rules as status selection knowledge. Since each status selection rule is simple and corresponds to a measure for evaluation, the status selection knowledge becomes simple. From the result of the application to a simple job shop problem, we confirm that this method is so effective.

In control system design, trial and error method can not be avoided. Accordingly, we have developed an optimizationsystemthat aids the designer in deciding optimal controller parameters matching the designer's specification. the system treats the design problem through two approaches: If the designer has quantitative specifications, the problem is mathematically formulated and solved by optimization method. And if the designer's specifications can only be described in qualitative form, deciding is efficiently facilitated withthe graphic tools. We show examples in which the system is applied to the PID parameters for SISO control system, and the weights of the LQR (Linear Quadratic Regulator) for MIMO control system.

In this paper, we deal with a class of shape optimization problems with a boundary integral as an objective functional. these shape optimization problems arise in various industrial applications such as minimum drag designs in fluid mechanics, designs of plasma shapes in tokamak devices. Deriving second order variations of the objective functional, we give a set of the second order necessary conditions of Kuhn-Tucker-Fujii type. To this end, we used also the second order variation of a solution of a boundary value problem that is a constraint to the optimization problems. As a byproduct of these analyses, we obtain a numerical method for the solutions of the optimization problems. Hence, we can expect that we shall have a CAD system for the class of shape optimization problems.

this paper addresses the problem of multi-objective optimization of the hydropower generation versus irrigation releases applied to the Egyptian Network. A linear programming-based multi-criteria model is developed based on the described system constraints. Two objective functions are considered in the analysis. the first is to maximize the total sum of potential hydropower production of the whole system. the second is to minimize the total water release to the system, while satisfying the different demands imposed at various nodes. Using the Generation Technique for solution, the results have revealed several tradeoff curves of both hydropower and irrigation uses.

In this paper we describe the analysis and modeling techniques we use to insure acceptable performance for a UNIX operating system based operations support system. the system contains information on customer records related to telephone system repair and maintenance and must be responsive to the users' queries. the application software runs on various processors that support UNIX OS system V. Performance issues have arisen in several enhancements that have been made recently to the hardware and software of the system. these enhancements include additional application features, migration to new UNIX OS versions and processors, and proposed database management system modifications. We used a combination of laboratory load testing and modeling techniques to address the performance issues associated withthese enhancements. In this paper we describe our techniques and how we have applied them to address the above enhancements.

this paper proposes a new approach to the optimization of multiparametric dynamic problem based on adaptive robust cost function. the optimization scheme is based on using the calculation of a robust cost function around a central point vector in the space of parameters. Each radius vector has their cost function evaluated accordingly to the length relative to the central point vector. A new central point vector point is chosen for that point which gives the smallest cost function and the calculation follows. the iterative calculation is stopped when the cost function reaches a given value. An application of this optimization method to a dynamical system showed that it has an exponential convergence.
