this study presents a sparse identification approach for modeling dynamic systems, leveraging data from a transient multiphase flow simulator, OLGA. the Sparse Identification of Nonlinear Dynamics (SINDy) methodology is applied, employing two optimization methods: Sequential thresholded Least Squares (STLS) and a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP)-based approach. the MILP-based method, featuring a cardinality constraint, represents a pioneering advancement in system identification techniques. Key findings include the importance of variable normalization for model accuracy, the role of cross-validation in hyperparameter selection for optimal model structure, and the exploration of the trade-off between sparsity and generalization. Results obtained for a reference case of transient water flow subject to many boundary conditions (or controls) validate the identified model’s ability to represent observed data in OLGA accurately.

this paper explores the dynamic modeling and performance analysis of a wheeled-legged rover. the studied terrain-adaptive wheel-legged (TAWL) rover possesses 20 active joints and 4 passive springs. the end-effector of each leg exhibits 3R1T motion characteristics, along with an attached active wheel. For the dynamic modeling, the Newton–Euler formulation and the principle of virtual work are utilized to calculate the forces acting on each link and the torque of the driven joints. the dynamic model of each individual leg is first established. then, the dynamic model of the whole body corresponding to different supporting and swinging legs is derived. For the performance analysis, the dynamic stability coefficient of the rover is determined. the stability coefficient around a certain supporting edge is defined as the ratio of the total moment exerted on that edge to the standard state’s total moment. the stability coefficient of the system is defined as the minimum coefficient value around all supporting edges. In order to verify the proposed modeling and analysis method, numerical simulations are conducted. the presented modeling approach can serve as the fundamentals for the optimization and control of the rover in future work. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

this paper presents MIRAGE-App×AcT-2024, a novel dataset originating from the efforts of the MIRAGE project, which collects traffic and corresponding ground-truth data from human-generated mobile-app interactions. By providing detailed insights into traffic patterns, the dataset supports advancements in mobile network optimization, security, and application performance evaluation. To this aim, we present an initial characterization and modeling of MIRAGE-App×AcT-2024. this new release aims to facilitate further research and development in mobile network traffic analysis, focusing on interactive, multi-activity apps and activity-level analysis.

systems for managing water supplies are intricate, requiring a range of models to manage water resources efficiently. these models can be designed and manipulated using a Model-Driven Architecture (MDA), which will increase the efficiency of managing the water supply. this research concept is particularly interesting since it has the potential to revolutionize water supply management. We can develop virtual representations of the entire system using model-driven architecture, allowing us to simulate and analyze numerous situations without incurring significant expenses and hazards. In this paper, we offer a model-driven framework. Our method entails transforming the model into textual representation, followed by verification with Uppaal. A model-to-text transformation is performed by creating a transformation engine in Acceleo® that converts software models into timed automata models. Timed automata are useful for modeling and analyzing the timing behavior of complicated systems. A real-time case study of the Mirpur City of Pakistan validates the framework's effectiveness, showing its capability to model water supply management systems. Incorporating formal verification improves the system's dependability by assuring standardization and reducing possible flaws. Moreover, system reliability will increase with early detection and rectification. © 2023 IEEE.

Large transformers are important devices in the new energy transmission system, and their operational stability is crucial to the power system. Ultrasonic monitoring method is a commonly used means of online monitoring of transformers, but the existing studies mainly focus on transformers of 220kV and below. In order to solve the problem of less research on the characteristics of ultrasonic signal distribution in large transformers, and to provide guidance on the layout method for the application of ultrasonic monitoring method in large transformers, this paper uses the finite element method to simulate the distribution of ultrasonic signals in 500kV transformers, and analyzes the characteristics of ultrasonic signals in different common installation positions, which provides a theoretical basis for the rapid sensing of winding faults on large transformers by ultrasonic detection method.

the electromagnetic force inside the pulse inductor affects the safe operation of the pulsed power supply (PPS) system. the calculation speed of the existing numerical method is too slow for large-scale optimization. this article proposed a semi-analytical method that can realize the fast calculation. this method is based on the discretization and normalization of the coils. the comparison with the simulation verifies the accuracy and rapidity of the proposed method.

Compared with the traditional rigid robots, the continuum robot has been widely studied because of its advantages of compact design and flexible motion. the design of continuum parallel robots are similar to that of the traditional rigid-link parallel robot, and the precision, stability and strength characteristics of rigid-link parallel robots are combined with the compactness and flexibility characteristics of continuum robots. In recent research advances, it is well appreciated to suggest that the use of parallel continuum robots with passive supports is supported by elastic rods. the passive branch undergoes deformation along its entire length and uses complex formulas to describe its shape and kinematics. According to different methods, this paper proposes the design of a parallel robot dual continuum translation passive branch chain. this continuum joint will assume a constant curvature bend and use this assumption for kinematic modeling. Since the continuum joint is a flexible joint that utilizes the characteristics of new materials, it uses material deformation to replace the motion pair, which successfully realizes that the passive branch joint can replace the universal joint and the ball hinge in the parallel robot, and the joint can be bent more than 90 0 to achieve a larger range of workspace. Each passive branch of the new continuum robot is a continuum structure composed of two mutually coupled flexible hinge joints, and the translational motion of the end effector is inherently realized by using its material properties. the paper includes a new mechanism description and kinematics modeling. © 2023 IEEE.

Using machine learning regression models for characterizing integrated circuits performance behavior may drastically reduce the costs associated to time consuming simulations and/or high licensing expenses of simulators in circuit optimization centered applications. To develop a machine learning model, a certain amount of simulation points is required in order to obtain an accurate surrogate model of the simulated circuit. thus, efficient algorithms for minimizing the number of needed samples for creating such metamodels are highly desired. We explore this idea by using an active learning scheme to model multiple outputs of the integrated circuits resulting in a complete machine learning based characterization of the circuit’s behavior. this can further enable other applications such as circuit optimization, pre-silicon verification or redesign. We validate this method on a batch of synthetic functions to provide a more complete overview of our active learning approach capability and also for an integrated circuit as study use case.

High deformation manufacturing processes, such as forming and machining, are complex physical phenomena involving severe thermo-mechanical and chemical loads. Traditional industrial-scale empirical methods involve high tooling and preparation costs and long lead times before manufacturing, which is undesirable in modern industry. the use of predictive models helps to reduce these weaknesses. Finite Element Method (FEM) models are a useful, reliable and cost-effective tool for studying manufacturing processes. Several approaches have been used to model these processes with the FEM. the Lagrangian formulation with implicit time integration scheme is the most widely used because of its reliability. However, element distortion due to severe plastic deformation and chip separation, in the case of machining, has always been a major concern of this approach. this paper therefore presents the development of a customizable and optimized FEM model with Lagrangian formulation and remeshing technique that solve the mesh distortion problem. the model was developed using the general-purpose software Abaqus/Standard commanded by Python scripting. the remeshing criterion is based on the relative plastic deformation at each load increment controlled by two subroutines working together UVARM+URDFIL. A forming problem was selected to optimize the mesh size and number of remeshings with the goal of reducing the simulation time. then, the proposed model was compared to Lagrangian models without remeshing and Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) formulation. the model was also experimentally validated demonstrating improvements over other approaches and formulations, and laying the foundation for further development, such as applying it to the machining process. © 2025 the Author(s).

Two-Stage optimization Strategy for Solving the VVO Problem Considering High Penetration of Plug-In Electric Vehicles to Unbalanced Distribution Networks

this article proposes a two-stage optimization strategy for solving the voltage-var optimization (VVO) problem considering stochastic penetration of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) to unbalanced, three-phase power distribution networks (PDN). the optimization strategy considers the prospect of forced active power curtailment at a minimized level, bidirectional PEVs activities. It also includes simple tap operations of shunt capacitor banks, online tap changing transformers, and voltage regulators to achieve optimal economic gain while satisfying the VVO operational constraints. the first stage aims for the optimal decomposition of the PDN into well-defined, cross-checked smaller partitions via a proposed community-based detection particle swarm optimization algorithm. the second stage incorporates a mixed-integer linear programming formulation to solve the VVO problem per partition level. this is done considering the nonlinearity and nonconvexity of the electrical system via applied approximation. this reduces the complexity and computational burdens that usually arise in solving the problem on a larger scale. the proposed two-stage strategy was tested on the modified IEEE 123 bus system with various case scenarios. Economical operation of the PDN is achieved during peak demand hours while maintaining a safe operation within the VVO problem.
