Furthermore, this study highlights the importance of considering various factors such as stress distribution, thickness variation, and manufacturing processes when designing and producing special-shaped B-shaped sleeves. © 2023 IEEE.

this study introduces FaaS-Utility, a novel approach aimed at optimizing Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) systems by addressing the critical issue of cold starts, which significantly impede system performance. By introducing a utility function informed by customer preferences and pricing goals, our methodology prioritizes resource allocation to enhance service quality effectively. We implement this strategy within Apache OpenWhisk, demonstrating its integration into a real-world FaaS platform. Our evaluation reveals that the proposed approach notably improves system performance, particularly in over-provisioned states, by reducing latency up to 2.37 times with a maximum additional cost of only 30%. While our method performs best in cold environments, it also maintains performance when applied in warm settings, offering a balanced solution between client and provider through adaptive pricing. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Mobile edge computing (MEC) is a promising technology to enhance the computation capability of smart devices (SDs) in the Internet-of-things (IoT). However, the performance of MEC server is limited due to the fixed location and constrained coverage. In order to address this issue, a multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) assisted MEC system is studied in this paper. We consider an energy constrained multi-UAV assisted MEC system where multiple UAVs collaborate with each other to provide computing services, and UAVs can dynamically change the frequency according to the computing task size. We aim to maximize the computation bits, SDs' fairness and UAVs' load balancing in multi-UAV MEC system by jointly optimizing the trajectory and frequency. To address this problem, we model it as a Partially Observable Markov Decision Process, and propose a joint optimization strategy based on multi-agent deep reinforcement learning. Finally, we evaluate our strategy against some typical benchmark strategies on the realistic dataset. the experiment results show that our strategy can outperform other strategies.

In a DC distribution system, the strong coupling between multiple converters and busbars often leads to the phenomenon of harmonic resonance interaction, posing a threat to the safe and stable operation of the system. this paper firstly establishes a harmonic impedance model for a double-bus DC system, and then analyses the resonance transmission amplification characteristics through the different interlinking converters, including the isolated DC-DC converter, i.e., Dual active bridge (DAB), and the non-isolated DC-DC converters, i.e., Buck and Boost. Subsequently, a method for optimizing the control parameters of interlinking converters is proposed according to the transmission characteristics of the converters. the proposed method utilizes the hierarchical variable weighting approach to score the impedance matrices under different parameters and identifies the optimal parameters based on the highest scores. the results show that the proposed method provides a guidance for parameter optimization to suppress harmonic resonance transmission and amplification in DC distribution system.

As graphs continue to grow to have billions of vertices and edges, the attention of graph processing is shifted from in memory graph system to external graph system. Of the two the latter offers a cost-effective option for processing large-scale graphs on a single machine by holding the enormous graph data in both memory and storage. Although modern external graph systems embrace many advanced I/O optimization techniques and can perform well in general, graph algorithms that build upon Breadth -First Search (BFS) (a.k.a. BFS-like algorithms) still commonly suffer poor processing performance. the key reason is that the recursive vertex traversal nature of BFS may lead to poor I/O efficiency in loading the required graph data from storage for processing. thus, this paper presents I/O-Efficient Graph Ordering (IOE-Order) to pre-process the graph data, while better I/O efficiency in loading storage-resident graph data can be delivered at runtime to boost the processing performance of BFS-like algorithms. Particularly, IOE-Order comprises two major pre-processing steps. the first is Breadth-First Degree Second (BFDS) Ordering, which exploits both graph traversal pattern and degree information to store the vertices and edges which are most likely to be accessed together for I/O efficiency improvement. the second is Out-Degree Binning, which splits the BFDS-ordered graph into multiple sorted bins based on out-degrees of vertices so as to 1) further increase I/O-efficiency for runtime graph processing and 2) deliver high flexibility in pre-caching vertices based on the memory availability. In contrast to the state-of-the-art pre-processing techniques for BFS-like algorithms, IOE-Order demonstrates better efficiency and practicability: It delivers higher processing performance by achieving higher I/O efficiency but entails much lower pre-processing overhead.

this paper addresses the feasibility of an optimization system for a walking assist robot worn on the lower limb, which can reflect the user’s intention to shorten the travel time and walk with less effort. In this optimization system, an evaluation index is defined based on travel time per unit distance and energy consumption of joint motion, and the index is represented as a function of step length and pitch during walking. the optimization system was designed to be real-time by employing a method to mechanically calculate the energy consumption from the measured joint motions. the results of the evaluation indices for walking without and with assist force showed that the optimal gait changes when the robot adds a part of the joint torque required for walking to the user, and that the value of the evaluation index becomes smaller.

thermoeconomics is a branch of engineering that combines concepts from thermodynamics and economics to tackle problems that are hard or cannot be solved by these sciences, separately. the main applications of thermoeconomics are cost allocation, optimization, and malfunction diagnosis of energy systems. Defining the productive structure plays a critical role in thermoeconomic modeling, and exergy is a highly appropriate thermodynamic quantity to correlate with costs. For systems containing dissipative equipment, the use of total exergy in conventional productive diagrams need a subsequent decision, by the analysts, on how to define its fuel and product. In some applications, exergy disaggregation can be elegant options, mostly to deal with dissipative components. Nevertheless, all of them increase the complexity in thermoeconomic modelling. In this work, thermoeconomic cost allocation approaches in a simultaneous heating and cooling heat pump system were performed from the application of some thermoeconomics methodologies. the studied system has one dissipative component (valve) and generates no waste. there are three specific objectives. Firstly, to present the different possibilities to treat and isolate the valve in the thermoeconomics modelling. Secondly, to compare the methodologies presented from the thermoeconomic point of view through the cost allocation in a simultaneous heating and cooling heat pump system. And finally, to show the pros and cons of each methodology applied in this study to support future decision-makings in thermoeconomic modelling. the research demonstrates that the differences between the methodologies used were not significant, and the choice of methodology should depend on factors such as the need for disaggregated equipment. In conclusion, the findings of this study indicate that without certain models that may overestimate the cost of particular components, the thermoeconomic results fall within a narrow range of 4% of the solution l

With the widespread application of high voltage direct current (HVDC) in large-scale inter-regional power transmission, the issue of harmonic instability caused by transformer saturation received increasing attention. this paper focuses on this issue by analyzing the formation principle of DC bias in transformers and accurate modeling. the J-A hysteresis model and the compensating current source model in PSCAD are introduced. the mechanism of harmonic instability caused by transformer saturation is analyzed. Moreover, a resonance instability criterion is derived, which takes the saturation effect of the converter transformer into account. then, a comparison is made between the excitation current waveforms of the two models. the simulation results in PSCAD prove the accuracy of analysis and the hysteresis transformer model has higher precision in characterizing the occurrence of cumulative instability.

Dual-arm underwater vehicle manipulator system(UVMS) has great potential in underwater operation. However, due to the dynamic interaction, there are multiple dynamic coupling effects between two arms and between each arm and the base, which brings great challenges to the trajectory planning and coordinated control of UVMS. Firstly, we analyze the coupling effect of manipulator motion on base motion in position-level. A modeling method based on base centroid equivalent manipulator (BCEM) is proposed to analyze the coupling relationship between the movement of end effector and the position change of base centroid. then, the dynamic coupling index is defined to evaluate the dynamic coupling degree, which can be used as the performance evaluation index of the interference of the robot motion planning on the base motion and the design criterion of the structure and mass distribution of the manipulator, as well as to assist in selecting the best installation position of the manipulator. Finally, some simulations were carried out to analyze the influencing factors of coupling effect of dual-arm UVMS. this work provides a theoretical basis for the design, performance evaluation, trajectory planning and control of dual-arm UVMS. © 2023 IEEE.
