In the context of fuel-flexible operation of gas turbines, providing on-demand large-scale electric power without incurring in emissions of carbon dioxide, a convenient feature of Ansaldo Energia's Constant Pressure Sequential Combustion (CPSC) system is the possibility of controlling the amount of fuel independently fed to the two combustion stages depending on the reactivity and combustion characteristics of the fuel itself. Crucially, in the case of ammonia-based fuels, this includes the capability of switching the CPSC operating mode from a conventional Lean Pre-Mixed (LPM) combustion to a Rich-Quench-Lean (RQL) staging strategy that mitigates undesired emissions of atmospheric pollutants (NOx) and greenhouse gases (N2O) emerging from the oxidation of fuel-bound nitrogen. Building upon an earlier numerical-modelling assessment of the CPSC system capability to operate in RQL mode (GT2023-103835) [1], the present work extends the scope of the initial preliminary study with a comprehensive set of additional calculations, based on massively parallel Large Eddy Simulation (LES) performed in conjunction with detailed chemical kinetics. Firstly, it is reported that, according to the numerical modelling predictions, a transition to stable, low-emission combustion of pure (non-decomposed) ammonia in the Multi-Burner First Stage (MBFS) can be achieved following an initial ignition and flame stabilization of a more reactive, partially decomposed ammonia blend. Secondly, it is shown that, at the equivalence ratio investigated, the unburnt fuel fractions emerging from the fuel-rich MBFS flames are completely oxidated by secondary air injected within the Dilution-Air Mixer (DAM) section of the CPSC. Furthermore, it is found that this burnout process occurring in the DAM section of the CPSC does not lead to significant increase of NOx and N2O emissions, thereby confirming the excellent potential of the CPSC to operate cleanly and efficiently with ammonia-based fuels.

With the rapid development of SG mobile communication and intelligent vehicles, efficient and reliable vehicle-to-vehicle communication is recognized as one of the key technologies for the next generation of wireless networks in the future. Due to the rapid changes in the wireless channel due to the high mobility of vehicles, the traditional resource allocation technology is no longer suitable for the current vehicle network. this paper proposes a joint resource allocation method for the internet of vehicles communication based on the proximal policy optimization algorithm. In this paper, a joint optimization scheme of discrete and continuous resources suitable for the internet of vehicles communication is designed to effectively meet the strict requirements of vehicle-mounted communication. Simulation results show that the proposed allocation method can maximize the system capacity and satisfy the delay constraints of vehicle-to-vehicle communication.

In this work we present a novel Dual-Scale Skeleton model (DSS) to simulate the mesoscopic dual-scale flow inside a fibrous layup at an affordable computational cost. Instead of using a traditional Stokes-Brinkman model to govern the flow inside and around the tows, the flow domain is separated into three interconnected subdomains. For each subdomain, the threedimensional mesoscale geometry of yarns and channels is replaced by their medial axis representation, on which the flow is simulated by FE method. the generation of a Hybrid Skeleton mesh (2D and 1D elements) allows to reduce the computational cost of the problem while still accounting for three-dimensional effects in the flow. this allows one to carry out mesoscale simulations on relatively large domains. Although further refinements are desirable, the DSS model shows potential for application in composites process modeling. ©2022 Bancora et al.

Gardening is one of the most promising branches of agriculture. Intensive planting of new orchards requires rapid development of technologies and tools to support the harvesting process. the formation of the garden's harvest largely depends on modern and high-quality pruning of tree branches. An analysis of the tool base for garden care showed that 80% of horticultural enterprises use hand tools. Pneumatic and hydraulic tools are used by 15% of enterprises. Only 5% of households use electric pruning shears when pruning trees. these secateurs are manufactured by Electrocoup, Bosch, and Makita. the domestic instrument is represented by the developments of the 80s and 90s of the last century. therefore, there is a need to develop modern pruning shears based on a linear electric motor. their advantages are high reliability, low noise level and low power consumption. this is especially important since tree pruning takes place over large areas and the presence of large energy sources reduces the pruner's mobility. the linear electric drive is not used in existing pruning shears. this is due to the lack of a theory of designing magnetic systems for hand-held electrified tools. Chain methods for calculating magnetic systems have a high error, which does not allow determining the optimal design at the stage of calculations. this is primarily due to the redistribution of the magnetic flux from the stator through the air gap to the motor armature. the use of modern computer programs (ElCut), using the finite element method for calculations, will allow at the design stage to obtain the optimal design of the magnetic system with a given accuracy. modeling and optimization of the magnetic system of the electric motor will reveal the most effective direction for the development of pruning shears for pruning trees based on a linear electric motor. the aim of the study is to optimize the magnetic system of the linear electric motor of the pruner. the optimal design of the magnetic s

An essential feature of a symbolic regression problem is the ability to generalize a function model. If the data samples are overfit, the model's capacity to generalize may be reduced. It is worth the effort to figure out how to improve the learning model's generalization while maintaining learning precision. this work suggested a multi-objective optimization strategy to improve the learning model's generalization, based on the structural risk reduction concept. Two optimization objectives were identified: empirical risk and confidence risk. Integrated learning techniques were applied to the Pareto optimal solutions obtained through Gene Expression Programming (GEP) to generate a final function model with enhanced fitting precision and generalization capabilities. the comparative experiment demonstrates how the suggested approach can improve symbolic

Load transportation in micro-gravity environments is a challenging task for autonomous vehicles, but a crucial one considering the ever-increasing amount of space debris and the need for on-orbit assembly. We propose centralized and decentralized Model Predictive Controllers to transport passive loads. Realistic numerical simulations illustrate the performance of the proposed controllers for different load setpoints. While centralized controllers provide better transient performance, their computational cost makes the optimization problem intractable for more than a few agents involved in the collaborative task. On the other hand, decentralized controllers achieve faster computation time and do not suffer from the curse of dimensionality, at a small cost in performance.

A typical Virtual Power Plant (VPP) has a distributed architecture, composed by a central control system and decentralized control units, which coordinates and aggregates local resources. A key aspect of these distributed energy systems is the flexibility offered to the market. this flexibility is considered as the difference between the (partially shiftable) load requested to the system and the energy produced by the local available resources, and it is subject to the uncertainty of the renewable production. this work proposes robust day-ahead optimization models to analyze flexibility of different local resource configurations. For each configuration, we consider a Demand Side Management step to shift the requested load in predefined time windows, based on renewable production forecasts. Moreover, two different objective functions are considered: 1) the cost minimization for the use of available resources;2) the minimization of the exchange with the external grid (i.e. the market). the models are implemented and tested using real data. We provide a comparative analysis on the expected flexibility and costs that can be exploited by a central system to provide value-added services to the market by synergistically managing different configurations of local resources of a VPP.

Nowadays the battery energy storage system (BESS) plays a significant role in power grid due to its excellent function in energy regulation. In most cases, BESS connects to the power grid through Power Conversion system(PCS). However, the state of charge (SOC) of different battery modules tend to be different during the working process. the difference bet ween SOC would intensify buckets effect, and the performance of BESS would be degraded due to the abnormal feature (low SOC) of single battery cell. To avoid such shortcoming, it is necessary to eliminate the difference of SOC though control strategy. In this paper, we propose a SOC balancing strategy for parallel-connected power conversion system based on PQ decoupling control, which can also adjust the active power output of each battery module converge to optimization solution. Simulation and experimental results from a 2 × 700V, parallel-connected power converter system are presented in order to validate the method.

Microgrids are currently seen as the future of power generation and distribution systems. this paper illustrates the optimization of the operation stage of the main components of a microgrid supplying the final demands for electricity, heating and cooling of a residential district. the optimization was performed with reference to four seasonal standard days and optimizing the operating costs or the primary energy use. the electricity production from a photovoltaic system and a combined heat and power (CHP) satisfies the local electricity demand. the heating demand is fulfilled with a gas-fired boiler, a CHP, a solar thermal collector and a reversible heat pump that is employed also for the cooling demand together with an absorbtion chiller. Moreover, a storage system for each demand is also included. the optimization model is formulated through a mixed-integer linear programming approach and implemented in MATLAB. the results show a reduction of costs ranging between about two and four times and a reduction of primary energy use between about two and five times with respect to the traditional scenario (electricity and gas from the grid).

this article deals with a special class of algorithms with feedback. Such algorithms are designed to control the traffic and the pedestrian flows at the intersection. A specific feature of the traffic control system is changing the probability structure of input flows under the influence of random factors such as accident or worsening weather conditions. the purpose of this research is optimization of the system work for the different types of flows such as Poisson and Bartlett input flows. Using the simulation method, in this work is studied the influence of the probability structure of input flows and the average batch size on work of the system. the influence of the Bartlett flow parameters on the quasi – optimal control parameters and the minimal value of the average sojourn time of a random customer at the intersection is considered. Using of the control parameters allows to regulate traffic at the intersection and reduce the traffic load. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
