this study proposes a multi intelligent connected vehicles (ICV) collaborative lane changing model based on Deep Q-Networks (DQN), and verifies its effectiveness in dynamic traffic environment through the test of highway-env simulation environment. the results show that with the increase of training times, the model can significantly improve the overall average speed of the team. Further analysis shows that the model shows different performance under different traffic density and the number of controlled vehicles. the research shows that when the density continues to increase, the reward value, average speed and headway of intelligent connected vehicles all show a downward trend. In addition, when the number of controlled vehicles increases from 3 to 5, although the average reward value and headway of the fleet increase, the average speed decreases. this study provides a new perspective and method for the optimization of vehicle collaborative behavior and the improvement of traffic efficiency in intelligent transportation system.

Irrational signal timing leads to serious traffic congestion. However, the current research on signal timing has limitations on eliminating the dimensional influence between optimization indexes. the value of the index was rarely obtained via simulation before, and the application of Simulink on signal timing is lacking. this paper presents a signal timing method for an isolated intersection based on the Simulink. First, a queuing system is established based on the queuing law of vehicles at intersections. Second, the queuing system is put into Simulink for simulation. Delay and fuel consumption are selected as optimization indexes, and a signal timing optimization model is established. Finally, this paper shows applications of three optimization algorithms in optimizing signal timing at a specific intersection in Chengdu. the result indicates that the delay and fuel consumption of the optimized scheme is optimized.

Evolution has always driven species change. the most interesting manifestations of evolution arise from natural selection, that favors the settling of more suitable species at the expense of others. this also occurs in cancer, where the hostile environment drives cancer cells to evolve to acquire favorable traits, phenotypes, in order to enlarge their species. A therapy can render the environment hostile, thus the physician’s role in limiting cell growth while considering their evolution is crucial. In this paper, we focus on the formalization and analysis of a novel eco-evolutionary model of cancer cells, enriched by biological considerations. Simulations validate the model and show how the role of the treatment is crucial in driving cellular dynamics.

A cascade control law employing non-linear constraint optimization for a shell and tube heat exchanger system is presented in this paper. Shell and tube heat exchangers are widely used in various industries for efficient heat transfer between two fluids. the control of such systems is crucial to ensure optimal operation and maximize energy efficiency. Hence, the main aim of the work is to regulate the shell outlet temperature. the cascade control structure employs an inner loop with a PI controller to regulate the flow rate, whereas a PID controller is employed in the outer loop to maintain the desired temperature. Further, a separate flow controller is used to govern the flow rate. the design criteria arc attained with the control law by minimizing the error. the intended specifications are attained by imposing constraints on bandwidth and loop-gain. Further, the performance of the controller is analyzed with external disturbances and parameter uncertainties. Besides, the Kharitonov-Hurwitz theorem is used to determine the robust stability. the findings highlight the potential of the proposed technique in achieving optimal control of shell and tube heat exchanger systems. the proposed control strategy offers a practical approach to improving temperature regulation and energy efficiency, contributing to industrial processes’ overall performance and sustainability.

this research integrates renewable energy resources into microgrid systems to address cost, emissions, and reliability concerns. Employing multi-objective optimization, the Teaching-Learning-Based optimization (TLBO) algorithm emerges as highly effective, achieving substantial cost and greenhouse gas reductions. TLBO showcases rapid convergence and superior performance for the proposed microgrid architecture, offering valuable insights for sustainable energy planning. the proposed microgrid architecture includes micro-turbine (MT), a solar photovoltaic (PV) system, a wind turbine (WT), and a battery energy storage system (BESS). the numerical results of the proposed system compared with load supplied by main grid. the achieved cost savings of the proposed system is 66.85 % and GHG cost savings is 67.77% compared to load supplied by grid. © 2024 IEEE.

In the face of evolving economic pressures and technological advancements, universities must adapt to remain relevant. One way to do this is by leveraging the power of partnerships to address the data skills gap. this paper examines two successful models: the Relational Insights Data Lab (RIDL) at Griffith University in Australia, and the National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD) at Newcastle University in England. Both institutions employ scalable, project-based approaches to integrate practical data and eScience capabilities within local commercial and government organisations. Our analysis highlights their shared focus on skill transfer and continuous improvement, aligning with the 2024 Australian Universities Accord and Australia’s draft National Science and Research Priorities to enhance data literacy and promote sustainable economic growth. We call on policymakers, educators, and industry leaders to support, test, and expand these models.

the increasing public awareness of the negative impact of harmful substances emitted as a result of the operation of vehicles powered by internal combustion engine on health and the environment has contributed to the dynamic development and popularization of alternative propulsion systems. the main development trend are electric drives;however, some manufacturers are looking for new solutions, among which the pneumatic drives can be distinguished. One of the advantages of this type of propulsion is the possibility of adapting currently used combustion engines to compressed air supply. the paper concentrates on presenting solutions applied by researchers to propulsion conversion, on the basis of which own concept is proposed. the modification process of a single-cylinder two-stroke engine for compressed air supply was described. the adaptation of the solenoid valve parameters as an actuator of the cylinder filling system was performed. this type of design allows for the start of the cylinder filling with compressed air at any time in relation to the crankshaft rotation angle. A functional diagram of the control process operation of the engine power system was developed which enables its correct operation. An important element of the system, in terms of the optimization of engine operation, was the opportunity to have an impact on selected power supply parameters. the purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the potential of utilizing existing components of an internal combustion engine to build a power unit, which does not require a combustion process to generate torque. the presented method of propulsion system conversion will allow for the popularization of compressed air supply system as an alternative propulsion source.

Scientific workflows have emerged as a new paradigm to facilitate and automate scientific processes. During workflow execution, the need often arises to capture and store the data derivation history, known as provenance, which describes the steps that yielded workflow output results. Workflow tools available today address this need by employing systems that capture provenance, store it in a database, and provide an interface for scientists to explore the stored data. However, these systems differ both in their functional and non-functional characteristics. this fact indicates that there is no agreement yet in the community about the essential capabilities that a provenance system has to provide. It is therefore important to develop a set of requirements for a scientific workflow provenance system. Furthermore, due to the lack of understanding of what these standard requirements should be, it is only natural that a standard system architecture for provenance management is missing. To address these shortcomings, in this paper, we 1) identify a set of functional and non-functional requirements for scientific workflow provenance management systems that cover key aspects of provenance storage, exploration, and reasoning, and 2) propose a reference system architecture for scientific workflow provenance management. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

the Internet of things is emerging as a key concept, defining a network of interconnected devices capable of seamless data collection, exchange, and analysis. However, due to their emphasis on simplicity, these devices are often vulnerable to malware attacks. this study examines the potential of machine learning methods, specifically in the context of Federated Learning, to enhance privacy protection and to benefit from IoT’s decentralized nature, such as the low overhead traffic. the proposed approach is a federated machine learning algorithm based on a central aggregator and several clients. the study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis using the IOT-23 dataset, which contains real and labeled instances of malware infections. the test outcomes demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms centralized approaches regarding the global area under the precision-recall curve (AUPRC) and variance, with a significance level of 0.05.

In this work a real-coded genetic algorithm for parameter optimization of the membership functions of the inputs and the outputs of a fuzzy inference system applied to diabetes classification is proposed. the main goal of this article is to show the advantages that parameter optimization of all the inputs and output using a real-coded genetic algorithm. the dataset used in this work to validate the approach is the PIMA Indian Diabetes dataset, where we have selected five attributes to perform the parameter optimization.
