In this paper we present a Hardware-In-the-Loop setup for the simulation of complex mechatronic systems. the setup consists of two coupled brushless motors. One of them is the motor under test, which is used to design the control algorithm and to test the control software, while the other one simulates the device to be controlled. Libraries of mechanical and hydraulic components have been implemented in an IEC61131-3 language so that a complex system can be simulated in a relatively easy way and this allows for a rapid control prototyping. Practical issues are discussed and an illustrative example is shown to confirm the effectiveness of the setup.

Numerically computing global policies to optimal control problems for complex dynamical systems is mostly intractable. In consequence, a number of approximation methods have been developed. However, none of the current methods can quantify how much the resulting control underperforms the elusive globally optimal solution. Here we propose policy decomposition, an approximation method with explicit suboptimality estimates. Our method decomposes the optimal control problem into lower-dimensional subproblems, whose optimal solutions are recombined to build a control policy for the entire system. Many such combinations exist, and we introduce the value error and its LQR and DDP estimates to predict the suboptimality of possible combinations and prioritize the ones that minimize it. Using a cart-pole, a 3-link balancing biped and N-link planar manipulators as example systems, we find that the estimates correctly identify the best combinations, yielding control policies in a fraction of the time it takes to compute the optimal control without a notable sacrifice in closed-loop performance. While more research will be needed to find ways of dealing withthe combinatorics of policy decomposition, the results suggest this method could be an effective alternative for approximating optimal control in intractable systems.

this paper presents the design and the implementation of general and adaptive framework for ambient assisted living applications. the challenge is to deal with a dynamic environment in order to provide an adequate service to an elderly or a sick person at home in a cooperative way. It is necessary to take into account constraints such as, the degree of urgency of the service and the intrusion degree of the system. the evolution of the degree of intrusion based on the degree of urgency and the availability of the different communication devices of the ambient environment are particularly targeted. through an adaptive approach based on coalitions of agents, the multi-agents system ensures answers to various and/or unforeseen situations. the originality is to employ a declarative method for modeling the coalitions formation process by means of a rule-based system.
