NoSQL databases are becoming increasingly popular as more developers seek new ways for storing information. the popularity of these databases has risen due to their flexibility and scalability needed in domains like Big Data and Cloud Computing. this paper examines asynchronous replication, one of the key features for a scalable and flexible system. three of the most popular Document-Oriented Databases, MongoDB, CouchDB, and Couchbase, are examined. For testing, the execution time for CRUD operations for a single database instance and for a distributed environment with two nodes is taken into account and the results are compared with tests outcomes obtained for three relational database management systems: Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.

Optimistic planning (OP) is a promising approach for receding-horizon optimal control of general nonlinear systems. this generality comes however at large computational costs, which so far have prevented the application of OP to the control of nonlinear physical systems in real-time. We therefore introduce an extension of OP to real-time control, which applies open-loop sequences of actions in parallel with finding the next sequence from the predicted state at the end of the current sequence. Exploiting OP guarantees, we provide conditions under which the algorithm is provably feasible in real-time, and we analyze its performance. We report successful real-time experiments for the swingup of an inverted pendulum, as well as simulation results for an acrobot, where the impact of model errors is studied.

In this paper we analyze a family of general random block coordinate descent methods for the minimization of l(0) regularized optimization problems, i.e. the objective function is composed of a smooth convex function and the l(0) regularization. Our family of methods covers particular cases such as random block coordinate gradient descent and random proximal coordinate descent methods. We analyze necessary optimality conditions for this nonconvex l(0) regularized problem and devise a separation of the set of local minima into restricted classes based on approximation versions of the objective function. We provide a unified analysis of the almost sure convergence for this family of block coordinate descent algorithms and prove that, for each approximation version, the limit points are local minima from the corresponding restricted class of local minimizers.

this paper presents the design of a digital temperature controller for cytostatic solution used in hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). Cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC technique, i.e. regional chemotherapy using cytostatic drugs at high temperatures of 43 degrees C, represents a treatment technique for cancer patients suffering of peritoneal carcinomatosis. the main challenge is to maintain the desired temperature of the cytostatic solution in the intraperitoneal cavity, thus, avoiding local abdominal injuries and systemic hyperthermia. In order to maintain the adequate temperature a digital controller is designed using the Dahlin algorithm, a model based design technique.

In this paper, a solution for the control of a chemical absorption process of a gas in liquid phase is proposed. the absorption process is treated as a distributed parameter one, its model being expressed using partial differential equations. the parameters of process model are experimentally determined. Also, the control strategy is based on using a modified PID controller withthe form adapted to the treated application. the numerical simulation of the control structure is made using the matrix of partial derivatives of the state vector (Mpdx) method associated with Taylor series and approximating analytical solutions. this paper proposes polynomial robust RST control for the regulation of the blood pressure in post cardiac surgery patients. Results using Reinforcement Learning is also presented. Clinical applications require simple and effective controllers. this study's focus is to show that polynomial robust RST control is suitable for the blood pressure regulation in post cardiac surgery patients. A realistic and detailed model of a hypertensive patient is used;this model offers a drug response (here we use the model of Slate et al. (1980)), a model for an internal reflex of the body (the baroreceptor reflex) and disturbances. We report simulation results obtained by using polynomial robust RST control, because it ensures the tolerance of the system to the structure disturbances of the model, as well as to the inherent approximations. A result obtained with Reinforcement Learning is also presented.
