the field of computer vision, in general, is focused on achieving maximal computational efficiency with little priority towards mimicking biological vision. Biologically grounded vision algorithms such as Poggio's layered features and Deep Learning Networks, on the other hand, are geared towards achieving recognition performance and predictable artefacts similar to the human vision system. Nevertheless, there is a dearth of computer vision algorithms and associated robotic systems that incorporate human-like spatio-temporal behaviors in visual processing, which has been conveniently modeled in symbolic systems such as ACT-R. In this paper, we explore the possibility of grounding a recently developed semantic cognitive vision theory the k-TR theory of affordances for visual perception, using biological models of visual cue activation, thus attempting a marriage between one family of computer vision processing algorithms and ACT-R based spatio-temporal behavior models. Various biological effects such as frequency and recency of feature activation, cognitive concept linkages and spreading activation, partial matching of concepts and visual features, effect of noise at various levels of perception and cognitive analysis, are taken into account While it can be seen that the performance of such a cognitive k-TR system grounded in biological/brain activation models is inferior in recall performance to an infinite memory, infinite time computational k-TR system, the temporal characteristics in terms of recall times and memory management of the biologically grounded system are superior to the purely computational model when deployed in a semantic context. the implementation of such a system is thus an important step towards the development of human-like behavior and performance in cognitive robots.

the paper discusses modeling and control of discrete manufacturing processes (TAIT) with disturbances of various types: machine failures, quality defects, unexpected additional orders etc. A novel intelligent and 'brined modeling method is presented for DAP with disturbances. It is called Two-Stage AL Model Transformation method (2SALAIT method). the method is based on fininal model of DVIP given by the Algebraic Logical,VIeta-Model of Multistage Decision Processes (ALAAI of MDP), especially Alultistage Dynamic Decision Processes (AL-MDDP) Method application is show] herein for IT systems controlling manufacturing processes on both operational and tactical levels. the paper also shows how 2SALMT method can be applied to modeling manufacturing processes in a failure mode.

In this paper we study linear discrete-time control systems in infinite-dimensional spaces with periodically time-varying bounded input and output operators. For such systems we consider a problem of arbitrary assignability of the upper Bohl exponent by non-stationary linear static state feedback and by non-stationary linear dynamic output feedback. this is a generalization of the stabilization problem, which has been well studied for systems of various types. the main results present sufficient conditions for considered types of assignability.

the aim of this paper is to investigate a direct numerical method for solving a class of a fractional variational problem (FVP). the fractional derivative in the FVP is in the Caputo sense. the Rayleigh-Ritz method is introduced for the numerical solution of the FVP. the corresponding Euler-Lagrange equation contain the left and right Caputo fractional derivatives. We approximate the solution of the FVP by using the trigonometric function. Finally, the illustrative example is presented.

the conditions for positivity and stability of a class of fractional nonlinear continuous-time systems are established. It is assumed that the nonlinear vector function is continuous, satisfies the Lipschitz condition and the linear part is described by a Metzler matrix. Using an extension of the Lyapunov method sufficient conditions for the stability are derived.

the routing problem with optimal stopping of linear system is investigated in this paper. the classical linear quadratic control problem was replaced by determining the optimal trajectory (way, track, path). the general aim of optimal stopping and route determining consists of minimization of composite cost function. To illustrate the optimal track a numerical example is included.

We present a method for numerical approximation of sample paths of the sub-fractional Brownian motion. Taking into account the main properties of the stochastic process, the main idea of this methods consists in the replacement of the process integral representation by a Riemann sum. We also give an estimate of an upper bound on the approximation error involved in the algorithm.

this article focuses on the problem of modifing the standard face identification approach for use in small-scale social dynamic environments, by focusing on adaptability rather than robustness. A design of adaptive face identification system is presented, along with the employed methods of online learning. the problem of ensuing bias-variance dilemma of an adaptive system is described and solved. the system is shown to be able to aptly adapt to new information and changes the environment, the final classification rate on MUG database was near 99%.

In the paper, a novel practical analog modeling of multiple-switching fractional order systems based on recursive fractional variable order integrals, is introduced. Presented circuit, based on domino ladder approximation of half order impedance, allows to multiple-switching between orders 0.5 and 1. Moreover, numerical scheme for solving variable order differential equations is introduced. Experimental results of modeling are also presented and compared with numerical simulations.

Control of active magnetic bearings is an important area of research. In this paper authors present the methodology of design, discretization and implementation PI λ D controller for magnetic levitation system. Implementation on the laboratory system was performed to validate the presented methodology. the presented methodology is promising and can be successfully used in other control systems.
