this paper presents a method for touch-based gesture recognition that can be used in human-centered interfaces for ambient intelligence applications. Gestures are associated with shapes and they are represented using Fourier coefficients. Neural Networks, Decision Trees, Naive Bayes and a set of classifiers (based on Linear Discriminant Analysis) are tested for gesture recognition. All these methods are evaluated based on accuracy, training and recognition time. Also an application controlled by user using touch-based gestures is implemented.

this paper describes the simulation of a distributed generation system with storage technologies. the simulation is performed using a SCADA software for a distributed generation system, considering the generation cost, the daily load, the power losses and the availability of the system's generating units. Also, a storage unit is added to the system. the system's generating units cover demand in order of their generating cost coefficient, withthe observation that if the distributed energy sources are on-grid, they have priority access to the system. this is because the power provided by the distributed generator is variable in time due to the availability of their primary source. When the demand is higher than the generation output, the storage unit will be used to cover the necessary remaining power.

this article describes the approach to control of human leg dynamical model as a switched linear system. the control scheme consists of fractional and integral order PID controllers. In the paper we analyze the responses of the system depending on the above-mentioned controllers. We focus our attention on angular displacements only. the angular velocity maybe arbitrary. Additionally, we present the method how to design a human leg as the switched linear system. In this case the switching rule is state-dependent. We address the challenge of providing public information about water quality parameters measured by wireless sensor networks placed on the river bed and river shore. the system provides pollution alerts based on the analysis made on the monitored water parameters. Haptic devices can make the interaction experience richer for healthy individuals and can augment the perceptions of impaired people. this paper presents the design of a haptic system wirelessly controlled by a remote application that runs on a computer. the hardware and software architecture of the system are thoroughly explained. the designed system is scalable, allowing for easy addition or removal of vibration motors in order to fulfill various research goals or deployment scenarios. the vibration patterns are software selectable making the system very flexible regarding the haptic sensations that can be induced or generated. the designed haptic system may be successfully used in research activities to study the effects of application of haptic technologies for impaired people assistance.
