Robotics rehabilitation is a research field that involves robotic devices adapted to assist various sensory-motor functions, to assist therapy and to evaluate the sensory-motor performance. Rehabilitation robots are catching popularity among patients and are generally well tolerated. this paper presents the development and the control structure of an exoskeleton designed as a tool for rehabilitation of the upper limb in disabled people. the system uses a combined control method to facilitate the upper arm movements using electrical drives and functional electrical stimulation (FES). the mechanical structure is lightweight, robust and it has four degrees of freedom. A software interface was designed in order to integrate the control of both systems: the electrical drives and functional electrical stimulation responsible for the muscle contraction. the exoskeleton can be controlled either in a direct loop or in a closed loop. the position references are obtained from potentiometers with linear characteristic which are mounted on the gear shafts of the DC motors. the exoskeleton was tested in vivo on healthy subjects showing good premises for initiating the clinical tests.

this work presents the design aspects of TRAVEE, a neuromotor rehabilitation system. the TRAVEE system relies on innovative concepts for improving the rehabilitation process and increasing the patient recovery rate. One such concept is to present the patient an augmented feedback as part of a learning process based on neuroplasticity. Most of the rehabilitation exercises are based on visual feedback aimed at restoring the brain function for upper limbs control. this feedback is provided in a virtual reality setting by presenting the patient with a virtual model of his/her body. the movements executed by the patient are augmented in the virtual reality. Assisting the patient by a virtual therapist when executing the recovery exercises is another original feature of the proposed system. TRAVEE is a complex system, that integrates virtual reality, robotics, electrical stimulation, electromyography and brain-computer interfaces to boost the rehabilitation process. the challenges posed to the architectural design of TRAVEE reside in the complexity of its functioning in a setup that integrates a variety of devices, with real-time operation constraints and requirements of keeping the system at accessible costs, easy to install and use. In this paper, we present the proposed hardware and software architecture for TRAVEE. We analyze and discuss the advantages of our approach and the mechanisms that address the various constraints in TRAVEE.

this paper presents a non -cooperative distributed model predictive control algorithm used in cyber-physical systems for two agent systems coupled through the inputs. Each agent computes the optimal input trajectory for its corresponding subsystem as the minimum of a local optimization problem. the input trajectory of the neighbor, which is used in the local optimization problem, is obtained based on the previous optimal control sequence and is received in a communication session. After that, the optimization problem is solved and the optimal input is sent to the process. this approach is computationally efficient because the communication between the two agents is reduced at minimum (only one session each sampling period) and the optimal input is obtained solving one optimization problem thus diminishing the overall computational time. the algorithm was implemented in Matlab and the obtained performances were compared with a cooperative distributed model predictive control strategy. Both methods were tested in simulation on a quadruple tanks process and the results recommend the noncooperative strategy which has similar results with less computational requirements.

To specify and verify multi-core parallel programs in a uniform framework, this paper proposes an axiom system for CCM-PPTL which extends that of PPTL by including transformation rules for sequence expressions and axioms as well as inference rules on the CCM construct. At least weekly we hear about significant data breaches or cyber-attacks that threaten the financial health and privacy of millions of online users, or about attacks by nation states or terrorist groups with a political or propagandistic agenda. How did we get here? How did our online interconnectedness that has created so many benefits, resulted in so many challenges? We're living through digital transformation that's challenging how we think about the world. We are clinging to mental models from the physical world and the industrial age that no longer work. What we need are new mental models and a recognition that technology alone does not fix the problem. It's the humans in the system that require rules for operating online that need to be vigorously addressed. Here is a case for new hybrid architectures that combine both the rules and tools for operating online. Some way to institute neighborhood watch with compensating controls that bridge the gap between humans and current technologies.

this paper presents the formal development of the memory management module of a real time operating system. the interesting feature of this type of memory manager is that its dynamic memory allocation/reallocation mechanism behaves in O(1) (no loops). this brings a serious challenge on the "correct by construction" approach used to build this kind of system. this is due to the necessity to elaborate some delicate algorithms associated with complex data structures. To overcome this challenge, we follow the refinement principles of Event-B: we construct the proved executable code from some initial requirements. this development is interesting because some of the encountered problems are rather necessary to be studied in formal proved developments, among which are a modular encapsulation development, the design pattern of a linked list, and the usage of guarded events to develop pre-conditioned operations. It also gives us the opportunity to study a complex program construction in some general terms going beyond this specific example.

this paper proposes a method of behaviour-attentive prototyping (BAP). BAP differentiates an approach of prototyping that provides a comprehensive description of the main features of the evolving system based on the conjoint behaviours of users, computers, and the designed system. the goal of BAP is to produce a rough working model of the designed system. the method has been developed with a view to and is intended to be used primarily, but not exclusively, in the early development of design systems of processing chambers of integrated circuit (IC) equipment. the method uses a behaviours tracking strategy. It involves five steps: (1) construction of behaviour space;(2) reasoning with the sequence of behaviours;(3) behaviour decomposition;(4) behaviour prototyping;(5) validation on computer. the BAP approach is interested not only in how the system is configured and manifest, but also in what it operates and how it behaves.

Oil theft always results in huge economic loss, human casualties, and extremely environmental pollution especially when the leaks from crude oil pipeline are not detected and repaired timely. In this paper, we focus on how to detect and monitor abnormal noise and vibration beforehand or in real time by the Internet of things (IoT). Firstly, the diversities of crude oil theft and the difficulties of oil anti-theft are analyzed in China, and the requirement analysis of the IoT application is stated. Secondly, the intelligent anti-theft system based on the IoT is planned and designed for crude oil transportation by tank trucks and by oil pipelines according to the current situation in China. thirdly, the problems of anti-theft system implementation are discussed, and the suggestions and advice are put forward to ensure that the system can be implemented successfully. the intelligent anti-theft system application can not only stop oil theft timely, but also prevent oil mice from stealing crude oil beforehand. Touchscreens are considered as a friendly interface for elderly people. However, a gap between young users and older users was still observed in either interaction performance or user experience. Although previous studies have identified the gap is associated with age-related characteristics, most researches are focused on specific input or output elements. this heterogeneity of research subjects makes it difficult to understand, compare and to recommend proper techniques for a specific design. Accordingly, we provided a review, thoroughly describing the efforts on the touch-based system and the elderly population in the past decade and answering the following questions: (1) How to identify characteristics that sensitive to performance and experience? (2) How to accommodate for elderly's special interests? We also summarized the relevant design guidance, and provides novel perspectives of inclusive technical design for the elderly. Our work may enlighten those who is interested in the design of both hardware and software elements for the elderly.

thanks to the advances in technologies, ubiquitous computing (ubicomp) is developing fast with the proliferation of smart devices such as smart phones and tablet computers. However, privacy is an important concern in ubicomp;unless users are confident enough that their privacy is protected, many will be deterred from using such systems. this paper proposes a privacy type system that controls the behaviour of concurrent, context-aware and mobile processes to ensure that private information are not accidentally disclosed. We prove the subject reduction property, which guarantees that a well-typed process is safe and cannot disclose private information to an unauthorised party. (C) 2015 the Authors.
