3D printing is a rapidly advancing field, particularly with the emergence of industrial applications. Within this realm, multi-material printing is gaining prominence, finding applications across various industries. A significant challenge in multi-material 3D printing is the potential for delamination between layers or poor adhesion. Our study addresses this challenge by focusing on joining methodologies. Specifically, we apply mechanical interlocks with varying orientations (0 °, 45°, and 90 °) to achieve the enhanced impact strength. with PLA Pro material. The toughness and fracture properties of interlocked samples were compared with standard printed pure samples. Our findings indicate that the interlocked samples exhibit superior strength and distinctive fracture behaviors that can be used to print to multi-materials in 3D printing. Furthermore, the best performing interlock was further optimized based upon raster angle. The result shows best performance at 45° raster angle. This work can lead to multi-material printing in various industries like health care, manufacturing, and process industry. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents an approach for solving the Economic Dispatch Problem (EDP) in power systems considering transmission losses in a recursive manner via a Holomorphic Embedding Method (HEM). The HEM methodology has been proposed recently in power system to solve the power flow problem. The technique was adapted in this work for solving directly the nonlinear equation system that arises when the EDP lossy optimization problem is formulated. In order to demonstrate the efficacy of the approach, experiments are carried out on the well known IEEE 14-bus test system. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated by using the classical Newton-Raphson (NR) method. The methodology presents similar results compared to the NR method, however having higher performance when compared in terms of convergence.

New technologies, production of electricity, and energy savings play a significant role in the rise of the economic potential of each country and have a significant impact on the environment. The growing demand for electrical energy and the use of turbogenerators in electricity production have led to their irreplaceable role. History shows that at the end of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century usable energy from fossil fuels is running out, and renewable energies are still not developed enough to offer a full replacement. Therefore, any attempt to improve the quality of turbogenerators is of considerable value. Electrical insulation systems (EIS) of turbogenerators have been developed and optimized during the last 60 years. This article discusses how to improve the removal of heat from electrical insulation systems and at the same time increase the performance of high-voltage electrical equipment thereby reducing weight and reducing their dimensions by increasing the value of the coefficient of thermal conductivity of electrical insulation systems. An increase in thermal conductivity can be achieved by adding a filler with a higher thermal conductivity coefficient to electrical insulation systems. By modeling the distribution of the temperature field with a change in the coefficient of thermal conductivity, the assumption that fillers can affect the thermal properties of the electrical insulation system was verified. The economic benefit of an electrical insulation system with a higher value of the thermal conductivity coefficient is stated at the end of this article.

Transcranial electrical stimulation refers to the transmission of weak electrical currents to the brain through scalp electrodes to induce neuromodulatory effects. Current usually passes through two large electrodes, generating a diffusion electric field. In this article, we propose a new paradigm where multiple small electrodes with independent current control are systematically optimized to generate targeted and effective stimuli under safety constraints. We used finite element method combined with a model based on human head magnetic resonance imaging to develop a linear system that correlates the applied scalp current with the generated electric field. Then apply optimization techniques to derive yield increasing parameters that maximize intensity or focus at the target location. The results indicate that the optimal electrode structure is closely related to the required electric field orientation and optimization criteria. The two optimization methods used have achieved good results.

Hydraulic turbine control system is a complex system with strong nonlinearity and multiple variables. Therefore, in order to better control the turbine system, it is necessary to obtain the parameters of key components. Aiming at the limitation of the traditional particle swarm optimization algorithm in global search ability, mutation operator and dynamic inertia weight coefficient are introduced to enhance the search ability of the algorithm. In addition, in order to further improve the global search performance of the algorithm, this paper combines the optimized particle swarm optimization algorithm with genetic algorithm to form a hybrid parameter identification algorithm. The hybrid algorithm not only uses the fast convergence of particle swarm optimization (PSO), but also uses the global search advantage of genetic algorithm (GA) to realize efficient and accurate identification of turbine torque and load parameters. Through MATLAB2021a/Simulink simulation experiments, the application effect of the algorithm in the identification of turbine torque and generator load parameters is verified. The simulation results show that the optimized particle swarm optimization algorithm has significant advantages in the accuracy and robustness of parameter identification, and the identified parameters have a high degree of fitting with the actual measured torque and speed. This study not only provides a new optimization strategy for the parameter identification of turbine regulation system, but also provides an effective intelligent algorithm solution for the parameter identification of nonlinear system. © 2024 The Authors. The installation and the optimal exploitation of energy storage systems in the distribution networks has recently become a hot topic due to the large diffusion of distributed generation based on renewable energy sources that has concerned this power system level. Several approaches have been tested to optimize sizing and siting of storage in distribution networks and a few papers have also optimized their daily scheduling. In this paper, the Grey Wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm has been applied to the problem of finding the optimal number, rate, location, and scheduling of distributed storage devices in an uncertain planning scenario of distribution systems. The GWO performance has been compared with a Genetic Algorithm optimization model previously developed by the authors.

As an important component of the RF front-end of wireless communication systems, antenna performance has a decisive impact on the communication ability of the system. This paper designs a high isolation microstrip dual frequency multi input multi output (MIMO) antenna. The antenna selects a bent monopole antenna as the front high-frequency resonance unit. By adding a rear resonance unit to introduce low-frequency resonance, it achieves dual frequency operation at 2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz. The method of slotting on the floor and hanging metal wires on the back solves the mutual coupling problem between antenna elements. The results show that the antenna can achieve dual frequency operation with good isolation, and its gain, out-of-roundness, and other parameters meet the design requirements, meeting the requirements of wireless communication systems for high communication rate and high communication capacity. © 2023 IEEE.

RISC-V open-source systems are emerging in deployment scenarios where safety and security are critical. OpenTitan is an open-source silicon root-of-trust designed to be deployed in a wide range of systems, from high-end to deeply embedded secure environments. Despite the availability of various cryptographic hardware accelerators that make OpenTitan suitable for offloading cryptographic workloads from the main processor, there has been no accurate and quantitative establishment of the benefits derived from using OpenTitan as a secure accelerator. This paper addresses this gap by thoroughly analysing strengths and inefficiencies when offloading cryptographic workloads to OpenTitan. The focus is on three key IPs - HMAC, AES, and OpenTitan Big Number accelerator (OTBN) - which can accelerate four security workloads: Secure Hash Functions, Message Authentication Codes, Symmetric cryptography, and Asymmetric cryptography. For every workload, we develop a bare-metal driver for the OpenTitan accelerator and analyze its efficiency when computation is offloaded from a RISC-V application core within a system-on-Chip designed for secure Cyber-Physical systems applications. Finally, we assess it against a software implementation on the application core. The characterization was conducted on a cycle-accurate RTL simulator of the system-on-Chip (SoC). Our study demonstrates that OpenTitan significantly outperforms software implementations, with speedups ranging from 4.3x to 12.5x. However, there is potential for even greater gains as the current OpenTitan utilizes a fraction of the accelerator bandwidths, which ranges from 16% to 61%, depending on the memory being accessed and the accelerator used. Our results open the way to the optimization of OpenTitan-based secure platforms, providing design guidelines to unlock the full potential of its accelerators in secure applications.

The slowdown in improvements due to scaling encourages the exploration of alternative techniques at all design levels. Complementary CMOS logic (CCMOS) has been the dominant digital logic style for several decades. Pass Transistor Logic (PTL) has been studied recently as a low-power alternative to CCMOS but presents challenges to current EDA tools due to strong coupling between inputs and outputs. Thus, circuits that include PTL gates have to be manually designed, limiting their use to regular structures, such as adders and multipliers. Cell selection, or gate sizing, is a crucial optimization step applied to all designs to meet goals for timing and power, but despite the rich literature, only CCMOS gates have so far been considered. In this paper, we present a methodology to accurately model non-traditional CMOS topologies, enabling a broader scope for cell selection and hence more optimization potential. Using our accurate models, we demonstrate reductions of 7% in Critical Path (CP) delay and more than 10% in average power consumption for a representative circuit in a 12 nm FinFET technology. © 2024 IEEE.
