This paper addresses the problem of the optimization of potential field-based path planning which is a well-known path planning method using attraction fields to goal and repulsive fields from obstacles. The convex optimization methods can be applied to potential field-based path planning to obtain the more efficient path. This paper presents how the convex optimization methods can converge a mobile robot to the goal and analyzes the convergence time according to different environments and methods. The simulation results show that the convex optimization methods were conducted successfully, and the Newton's method was conducted faster than the Gradient descent method.

Automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) are important in distribution centers and warehouses. To decrease cost or CO 2 emissions it is natural to optimize various aspects of an ASRS. In this work, we provide a concept for a two-phase optimization combining two important optimization tasks in ASRS: Given multiple rearrangement jobs, we first sequence these jobs to minimize the total travelling distance of the cranes. We continue the optimization by computing optimal trajectories for the sequence to guarantee energy efficient driving of the cranes. We describe our algorithms for a complex ASRS architecture with two cranes on parallel rails in one aisle. Additionally, we describe how to use our results for parallelization of crane movements in the considered warehouse architecture.

Real-time optimizationstrategies aim to improve the operating performance of a process using a model of its input-output behaviour. This is challenging when the true system characteristics are not fully known and there are safe operating limits that must be respected. In this work, we evaluate the performance of an adaptive, real-time, exploration and optimization algorithm on a simulated refrigeration plant, and show how incorporating prior knowledge based on engineering principles can improve its performance, especially during the early stages of learning when there are few observed data. The results indicate that exceedances of the safe operating limit are avoided and the improved models still learn the true system characteristic, albeit more slowly than the standard models fitted without prior knowledge.

Sensor network lifetime maximization can be solved using heuristic methods, but they produce only suboptimal sensor activity schedules. However, knowing the quality of these solutions, we can use methods for solving decision problems to find better solutions than these suboptimal ones. We apply an answer set programming (ASP) system to answer the question, "Is there a schedule of length k?" where k is at least one unit higher than the best schedule returned by the heuristic method. First, we convert the problem's constraints and a particular data instance into a high-level constraint language theory. Then we use a grounder for this language and a solver for the language of grounder's output to find a more extended schedule or determine that no such schedule exists. The paper presents the conversion rules and the experiments' results with one of the ASP tools for selected classes of the SCP1 benchmark.

The beginning of the 21st century for the fuel and energy complexes of most countries is characterized as a period of active restructuring and a fundamental shift in developmental priorities. The basis of these changes is technological development. Industry 4.0 technologies have particular importance in achieving maximum optimization of production processes. In the same way, they are applicable in establishing effective interaction between the energy sector and other sectors of the economy. The authors outline an approach to assessing the country's fuel and energy balance state through the selected properties: sustainability, accessibility, efficiency, adaptability and reliability. Hence, a model of the fuel and energy complex was created on the example of the Russian Federation, considering the country's territorial and functional division. The methodology is based on scenario modeling of the influence level of external challenges in conjunction with the accompanying technological development. The mathematical model allowed forecasting changes in the properties of the energy system. The scientific significance of the work lies in the application of a consistent hybrid modeling approach to forecast the state of the fuel and energy balance. The results of the study are useful in compiling scenarios for the regional and entire development of the fuel and energy complex. Further model improvements should include an expansion of the number of counted industries and their relations.

In this study, a surrogate model-based optimization methodology is proposed to determine the optimal internal geometry of a surface-mounted (SMT) ferrite bead to maximize the inductance of the device over a wide frequency range from 1 MHz to 1 GHz.
