Axial-flux permanent magnet synchronous machine (AFPMSM), with the advantages of high power density and compact structure, are suitable for large-capacity flywheel energy storage system (FESS). FESS is often used to improve efficiency as main development direction, while the traditional AFPMSM has the drawbacks of high loss and large cogging torque, which restricts the application of FESS. Therefore, the AFPMSM using soft magnetic composites (SMC) is proposed in this paper, then the parameters of machine are investigated, and finally a new optimization strategy combining back-propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN) based on genetic algorithm (GA) and multi-objective particle swarm optimization (PSO) search algorithm is used for optimization design.

The automated production of individualized products in a cyber-physical production system (CPPS) requires the combined automation of software and machine components. While this leads to increased productivity, the complexity of the CPPS may result in long unplanned downtimes when faults occur, and no system model is available to guide the maintenance team. Knowledge-driven, data-driven or hybrid modeling are available approaches in the literature to obtaining a system model. While expert-driven and data-driven modeling face limited applicability to CPPS, hybrid models, combining both approaches can offer a solution. This paper proposes a causality-driven hybrid model for fault diagnosis in complex CPPS, represented in a causal knowledge graph (CKG). The CKG serves as a transparent system model for collaborative human-machine fault diagnosis. We provide a concept for the continuous hybrid learning of the CKG, a maturity model to classify the resulting CKG’s fault diagnosis capabilities, and the industrial setting inspiring the approach.

this article evaluates the thermal performance of a solar water heating system utilizing a parabolic trough concentrator (PTC). The main goal is to simulate PTC operational parameters using a single-dimensional numerical heat exchange analysis. The receiver, glass envelope, and fluid were segmented and energy balances derived for each section. The partial differential equations that regulate the system were discretized into algebraic formulations and solved concurrently. This study utilized MATLAB programming to solve for direct normal irradiance (DNI) using the Capderou model. DNI was modeled for the equinoxes (March 21st and September 21st) and solstices (June 21st and December 21st) based on recorded data, in order to examine seasonal variations, and water is used as a heat transfer medium. The Capderou model was chosen to calculate the solar radiation for a clear sky condition. The results proved that the selected area has a large amount of radiation, which makes it suitable for the study of the basin. The results also show the obtained water temperature value, which makes the model suitable for the production of hot water.

This paper deals with the optimal allocation of photovoltaic (PV) distributed generators (DG) to minimize total active power loss and voltage deviation in radial distribution networks. The optimization problem is formulated as Mixed-Integer NonLinear Programming (MINLP) by incorporating binary variables into the standard optimal power flow (OPF). The optimal allocation problem was modeled in General Algebraic Modelling system (GAMS) environment and then solved using GAMS’s integrated BONMIN solver. The proposed method was evaluated through the simulation on the IEEE 33-bus test system considering a 24-hour time interval. The insolation curve was calculated for the latitude of 42 on the 21st of June using the online calculator. while the load profile was generated because it is the summer day. The results showed that optimally allocated PV units contribute to significant loss reduction and voltage profile improvement. Also, the results show that the effect of power loss and voltage deviation reduction is increasing with the higher penetration of optimally allocated PV arrays. © 2022 IET conference Proceedings. A recent collaboration between the TUD Dresden University of Technology and King’s College London explored the challenges associated with modeling the harmonic impedance of distribution systems and assessing its effects at higher voltage levels. Two network models, incorporating both transmission and distribution system representations, were utilized. For each model, different parameters were considered for sensitivity studies, and the harmonic impedance at the transmission level was computed for each scenario. The findings indicate that some of the parameters result in notable effects only locally, while others impact impedance at the transmission system buses. Common parameters that affect both networks are identified, and future work is outlined.

Current and future wireless communication networks need to support the demand for an ever-increasing data rate. Modern wireless communication air-interfaces use various modulation schemes with embedded pilot signals that are used to probe the channel state information (CSI). Since frequency resources are increasingly scarce, it becomes favorable to reduce the bandwidth occupied by the resources allocated to the pilot signals without compromising the system performance. In a MIMO scenario, the knowledge of the correlation coefficients between receiving antennas can help to optimize the transmission reducing the need of additional transmitted data. In this paper, a novel hardware implementation for calculating the correlation coefficient between two unknown signals is presented. The proposed approach aims to maintain a low mean-square error (MSE) with the minimum number of samples. Additionally, hardware optimizations are applied to the design resulting in a valuable reduction of the required digital resources and latency. The measurements, based on Xilinx XC7Z020 FPGA SoC, are compared with the results in a simulation environment to demonstrate its efficacy in the supported 5G NR frequency ranges. © 2023 IEEE.

Prior studies have proposed various methods to mitigate the computational burden of design optimization in induction machines (IM) through finite element analysis (FEA). However, they often face high computational complexity, where the computation time increases significantly with the number of input parameters considered. Additionally, these methods mostly focus exclusively on the individual physics of IMs (electromagnetic or thermal aspect) without addressing their interdependent influences. To confront these issues, this study explores the utilization of artificial neural networks (ANN) for the IMs' design optimization, taking into account their Multiphysics aspects. The goal is to leverage ANNs power to efficiently tackle complex design optimization challenges while reducing computation time, thus simplifying achieving optimal electro-thermal performance. Through in-depth analysis and modeling, the research illuminates ANN's potential in developing superior designs, while also meeting speed and accuracy criteria. The findings introduce a novel approach that integrates advanced computational tools with traditional design methods to enhance IM performance across various applications with implications for other machine types.

When conducting complex simulation experiments, experimental factor screening is of great significance to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the simulation. Aiming at the problems of unsatisfactory accuracy and efficiency of existing experimental factor screening methods, a simulation experiment factor screening method based on combinatorial optimization (EFS-CO) was designed. EFS-CO abstracts the experimental factor screening problem into a combinatorial optimization problem, designs the experimental factor evaluation criteria based on the support vector machine model, uses it as the fitness function of the genetic algorithm, and finally obtains the significant experimental factor. At the same time, to eliminate the influence of the randomness of the genetic algorithm on the screening results, the screening results of the experimental factors were determined based on the results of multiple experiments. Finally, the effectiveness of the method is verified by example analysis and comparing the results with the traditional experimental factor screening method. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The passive hyperspectral imaging system (HIS) is widely used in various fields since it enables not only remote sensing but also visualization of detection results. One of the simple and powerful chemical agent (CA) detection algorithms is the algorithm, which removes background signatures from the measured spectrum and estimates the similarity between the background-removed spectrum and the reference CA spectrum. A general concern of this algorithm is that the detection performance suffers from the modeling error that occurs by the inaccurate background removal. Therefore, we suggest a cooperative background removal process to minimize the modeling error. We also propose the cooperative CA detection algorithm based on the cooperative background removal process. Experimental results based on the real CA measurement data demonstrate that the proposed cooperative CA detection algorithm achieves better performance than the existing cooperative algorithms.

Efficient patient transport is crucial for the smooth operation of hospitals, as it directly impacts the timely delivery of medical care and the overall patient experience. The complexity of managing transport logistics, especially with limited resources, necessitates advanced optimization techniques. In this paper, we present an optimization model designed to enhance the scheduling of patient transportation missions and improve the organization of transport activities. Our primary objective is to minimize delays and reduce the number of unaccomplished missions, even when transporter availability is constrained. Using historical data from a hospital in France and the CPLEX solver, we compare our model's performance with existing models in the literature. The results demonstrate that our model significantly improves efficiency and reliability, ensuring timely patient transport and better resource utilization.
