Soft exosuits can help to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders by offloading human muscles through the application of external forces across the human joints. Many exosuits achieve this through tension producing elements called as exotendons. However, the design of these devices is based on intuition and experience. This leads to potentially sub-optimal or even harmful designs that could cause discomfort or injury to the wearer. This paper deals with automatically finding appropriate attachments and routing locations for exotendons. We propose to do that by accurate musculoskeletal modeling and design parameter optimization of soft exosuits. We focus here on a soft exosuit with a single passive exotendon to assist the shoulder. Using three arm raising-lowering and internal-external rotation motions as examples, we optimize the attachment point and rest-length of the exotendon to reduce overall muscle effort. We then fabricate the exosuit and validate the model predictions by testing with six participants. Supporting the predictions from simulations, measured muscle activity shows reductions in the deltoid and trapezius muscles. This work represents the first instance of explicitly optimizing functional and geometric parameters of exotendons in wearable assistive devices for minimizing human effort. © 2022 IEEE.

We propose a novel ergodic sequential logic neuron model and show its potential application in neural prostheses. The neuron model can reproduce various responses of a biological neuron of a cricket and has high hardware efficiency. In addition, it is shown that the proposed neuron model can restore lost responses in damaged auditory neural network of a cricket constructed in a Hodgkin-Huxley-type model.

In the distribution network, the existence of harmonic sources will lead to the warping of current and voltage waveform, affecting the stability of power system and the correct functioning of equipment. In this paper, a novel optimization model for harmonic mitigation is proposed, which utilizes residual capacity of photovoltaic inverters after active grid connection to generate harmonic compensation currents. The model is solved by particle swarm optimization algorithm. The simulation results prove that optimization model proposed in this paper shows great robustness and effectiveness, which is able to achieve harmonic mitigation at all nodes when facing different harmonic exceedances and can reduce the average value of total harmonic distortion of voltage by up to 11.59%. This also provides theoretical support for practical engineering applications.

This paper proposes a more robust optimal power flow algorithm (ROPF) to address the issue of optimal power flow solutions being more likely to be attracted to inoperable solutions in new power systems. Firstly, the holomorphic embedding power flow algorithm (HEM) and particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) are decoupled and reconstructed within the algorithm to achieve cross solving of the distribution network OPF problem. Secondly, based on the consideration of voltage quality and economic operation in the distribution network, a multi-objective optimization model was established with the system loss and voltage deviation rate as objective functions, and the flexible resource operation status of the distribution network as decision variables; Finally, using the ROPF to conduct simulation experiments on IEEE-33 system and compare the results with the OPF algorithm based on the NR method. The results indicate the ROPF has better robustness and practicality.

With the rapid development of space technology, the design of satellite-ground links in the field of satellite communication system research has become one of the hot spots in the field of satellite communication research. A good link design provides a low BER transmission channel for satellite-ground information interaction and gives full play to the observation and communication capabilities of satellites. By designing the RF transmitting and receiving systems in the satellite-ground transmission link, the performance of the satellite-ground link can be predicted after the satellite is in orbit by considering the losses in the transmission path. The article illustrates the compression coding algorithm, modulation mode coding selection, link design and implementation from the subsystem level, which is a strong practical guidance for satellite data transmission subsystem link design and working mode selection.

User attributes can be authenticated by an attribute-based anonymous credential while keeping the anonymity of the user. Most attribute-based anonymous credential schemes are designed specifically for either multi-use or single-use. In this paper, we propose a unified attribute-based anonymous credential system, in which users always obtain the same format of credential from the issuer. The user can choose to use it for an efficient multi-use or single-use show proof. It is a more user-centric approach than the existing schemes. Technically, we propose an interactive approach to the credential issuance protocol using a two-party computation with an additive homomorphic encryption. At the same time, it keeps the security property of impersonation resilience, anonymity, and unlinkability. Apart from the interactive protocol, we further design the show proofs for efficient singleuse credentials which maintain the user anonymity.

Heterogeneous multi-core Network-on-Chip provides high-speed execution and performance to meet the heavy communication demands of the system. However, the system power consumption and delay increase as the number of cores rises. In this paper, we present KL_SA, a mapping scheme based on the Kernighan-Lin (KL) and Simulated Annealing (SA) algorithms, aiming at the mapping optimization problem on heterogeneous multi-core Network-on-Chip. This scheme combines the advantages of the KL algorithm's efficient partitioning and the SA algorithm's global search for optimal solution and improves the latter in turn. Firstly, we divide the task using KL algorithm, with which result to initial the mapping of the SA algorithm, solving the random initialization problem in the SA algorithm, also increasing the likelihood of getting the optimal solution. Secondly, we do the mapping using the SA algorithm with memory function added in the iterative process. In this way, the current best state is memorized without losing the current optimal solution when escaping from the local optimum, ensuring the global optimal approximate solution obtained. Experiments show large savings in the aspects of system power consumption and delay on the system with the proposed mapping scheme compared to the existing mapping schemes.

In the development of fifth-generation (5G) networks, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology has recently attracted increasing research attention, where UAV-to-UAV (U2U) communication is found to be one of the promising technical trends. In this work, we propose a U2U communication model for the so-called generalized out-of-coverage (OOC) scenario, where the conventional terrestrial cellular network infrastructure is not available and the satellite network access is highly limited. Specifically, we formulate a problem to jointly optimize the system throughput (stP) and the system propulsion energy (SPE), by taking into account the UAVs’ positions and travel time durations. To solve this complicated joint optimization problem, we first build the corresponding model and then design a successive convex approximation (SCA) based joint stP and SPE optimization (SJSSO) algorithm as the solution. Simulation results show that the new SJSSO scheme outperforms its counterpart in several aspects, exhibiting a promising potential for supporting future U2U communications in OOC scenarios.

This paper investigates the separation of the drain current components in top-bottom and sidewall currents, and the extraction of their respective low-field mobility in two-level stacked nanowire nMOSFETs. The study presents a detailed analysis of carrier transport in different crystallographic planes, emphasizing the anisotropy in mobility due to variations in sidewall roughness induced by the etching process. Devices with variable fin widths (WFIN) were measured. The effective mobility and the mobility degradation factors were extracted using the Y -function method. This study provides insights into the optimization of process and device modeling for stacked nanowire MOSFETs.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with moderate computing resources has been deployed in current mobile edge computing (MEC) system to enhance the service coverage and computing capabilities of MEC servers. In such a UAV-assisted MEC system, UAV flies to the users with poor communication condition and executes the computation tasks in cooperation with the terrestrial MEC server, then the task latency perceived by users can be greatly reduced. However, frequent flight and computation offloading may drain its limited on-board battery and further deteriorate the service performance. Thus, we investigate the problem of joint online task offloading, flying trajectory and charging scheduling for UAV-assisted MEC system, with the goal of maximizing the system-wide energy efficiency in the long-term. Deriving such complicated but efficient strategies is non-trivial, since the long-term problem is NP-hard and requires future uncertain information (e.g., stochastic arrival of user tasks). To address these dual challenges, we carefully combine an online optimization technique with an approximate optimization method into a joint optimization framework, through (1) decomposing the long-term problem into a series of one-shot problems with Lyapunov optimization technique, and (2) solving the resulted NP-hard and non-linear one-shot problem with block coordinate descent and successive convex approximation methods. The efficacy of proposed online algorithm is verified by both rigorous theoretical analysis and extensive trace-driven evaluations.
