Deep learning (dl) models are being widely deployed in real-world applications, but their usage remains computationally intensive and energy-hungry. While prior work has examined model-level energy usage, the energy footprint of the dl frameworks, such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, used to train and build these models, has not been thoroughly studied. We present Greenlight, a large-scale dataset containing fine-grained energy profiling information of 1284 TensorFlow api calls. We developed a command line tool called CodeGreen to curate such a dataset. CodeGreen is based on our previously proposed framework FECoM, which employs static analysis and code instrumentation to isolate invocations of Tensor-Flow operations and measure their energy consumption precisely. By executing api calls on representative workloads and measuring the consumed energy, we construct detailed energy profiles for the apis. Several factors, such as input data size and the type of operation, significantly impact energy footprints. Greenlight provides a ground-truth dataset capturing energy consumption along with relevant factors such as input parameter size to take the first step towards optimization of energy-intensive TensorFlow code. The Greenlight dataset opens up new research directions such as predicting api energy consumption, automated optimization, modeling efficiency trade-offs, and empirical studies into energy-aware dl system design.

This article introduces a capacitive sensor for measuring glass thickness from 3 mm to 19 mm. The design, featuring two electrode fingers on FR4 substrate, undergoes iterative optimization to achieve optimal dimensional parameters. Experiments focus on tuning the electrode fingers' width and gap for sensitivity. Simulated capacitance values with different glass thickness demonstrate the sensor's capability in distinguishing the thickness of the glass samples. Precise tuning steps and parameter adjustments for enhanced sensing performance are described. This study offers insights into capacitive sensors for glass thickness measurement including the effects of geometric parameters of the electrodes and variation of the substrate materials.

To address the problem of I-125 seed source dosimetry in brachytherapy, this paper proposes the use of a polymer optical fiber dosimeter to measure seed source dosimetry parameters and gives the uncertainty analysis. The key factors affecting the accuracy of dose measurement around the seed source are discussed, and the uncertainties of the fiber-optic dosimeter, the initial information about the seed source, and the measurement system device are analyzed. The I-125 seed source dose parameters are measured according to the TG-43 standard and the two-dimensional dose distributions are presented using interpolation method. The results demonstrate that the optical fiber dosimeter has the ability to measure dose parameters of I-125 seed sources.

Windings of electric machines contain several series and parallel resonances. With steadily increasing switching frequencies in drive applications, the probability of resonance excitation by converter harmonics increases. For rotating electric machines in resonance condition, abnormally high voltages causing insulation premature ageing can occur within the winding. To safely avoid such resonance conditions, the knowledge of resonance positions is necessary. Consequently, impedance curves have to at least be calculated or measured prior to commissioning. Knowledge of internal voltage gains and transfer functions are also highly desirable. This means that appropriate measuring devices have to be available and suitable measuring configurations defined. This paper deals with the verification of a vector network analyzer for the characterisation of a mediumsized traction motor. For typical saturation levels of the magnetic circuit it is additionally shown that the experimentally obtained transfer functions can be utilised for the recalculation of internal voltages and therefore determining of motor insulation stress.

For measuring the standard resistors in the intermedia range of 1 Omega to 10 k Omega using the commercial Direct Current Comparator (DCC) bridges model 6010C and 6020Q, the scaling error of the DCC bridges should be investigated. This work proposes the verification by using the known values of the standard resistors with the resistance ratios of 1:1 and 10:1, which have very high stability in the controlled environment of temperature within (23.00 +/- 0.05) degrees C during measurement. The scaling error can be estimated from the difference between the calculated resistance ratio and the measured resistance ratio. Comparison results of 6010C and 6020Q show the consistency of the resistance measurement ratios. Both DCC bridges give compatible results with their manufacturer's specification in 0.05 mu Omega/Omega and 0.015 mu Omega/Omega for model 6010C and 6020Q, respectively. With the proposed validation method, the scaling error of the DCC bridge is at a level of 10(-8) Omega/Omega.

XLPE cables are widely used for underground power transmission and distribution. Therefore, condition assessment of cable insulation is important. In this work, Return Voltage measurement (RVM) is carried out to diagnose and characterise temperature - humidity aged XLPE cable insulation. The XLPE insulation is aged under constant stress and cyclic stress. The effect of both temperature and humidity is considered while ageing the samples. It is observed that return voltage characteristics change with ageing conditions. The measured parameters i.e. maximum return voltage, time to reach maximum return voltage and slope of the rise of return voltage are recorded. The calculated parameters i.e. p - factor and reliability factor are obtained using MATLAB curve fitting tool. Both the measured and calculated parameters is seen to change with ageing conditions. With ageing, the parameter values decrease compared to unaged XLPE. Therefore, the measured and calculated parameters can be used as ageing marker. Also, it is observed that percentage of relative humidity plays an important role on ageing.

This research presents the design and implementation of a C-slotted dual-band antenna optimized for sub-6 GHz wireless communication and radar applications. The proposed antenna integrates a C-shaped slot into the patch structure, enabling dual-band operation, specifically covering the 2.82-4.7 GHz range for sub-6 GHz communication and 8.9-10 GHz range for radar systems. The compact design achieves a gain of 6.55 dB at 3.9 GHz and 2 dB at 9.5 GHz, with return loss (S11) values of -48.01 dB at 3.9 GHz and -16.75 dB at 9.5 GHz. The antenna demonstrates a very good performance in terms of return loss, gain, and radiation pattern across both bands. It' s simple, cost-effective design makes it a strong candidate for emerging wireless communication and radar technologies, offering reliable dual-band operation. © 2024 ieee.

Inexact drone landings occur because of the global positioning system (GPS) resulting in measurement errors that are frequently several meters. The existing methods that tackle the problem usually use cameras. Their cost is relatively higher than the 0.5mW lasers we used in our work and the performance of vision-based methods in recognition range are only good at close ranges. A new method for increasing accuracy during descent is introduced and described in this paper using laser-guided systems mounted on a landing base for drones that we developed ourselves. Embedded system design was merged with 3D printing technology to implement our solution. The landing error margin of the developed system falls within 30 - 40 centimeters and the maximum tolerance horizontal distance between the drone and the landing base could reach up to 25 meters. Such results indicate that there are important areas to be considered if lasers were used as drone guides. Besides, we also cover future uses of our system at the end of the paper, which can help to understand its significance better.

The structural displacement is an important part of the health monitoring of engineering structures. The traditional displacement identification uses wired or wireless measurement systems for data acquisition, the process of arranging sensors and acquisition equipment is tedious and time-consuming. To solve the problem, a non-contact displacement measurement method based on image matching algorithm is proposed to improve the efficiency of structural displacement recognition. Consumer cameras are used as acquisition devices, the improved ORB feature matching technology is used to track the motion of the target feature points and extract the target displacement. The proposed method is applied to the displacement measurement experiment of structural model, and the results are compared with those of traditional ORB algorithm and grating scale displacement sensor. The results of experiment show that the proposed non-contact measurement method based on the improved ORB image matching technology has high measurement accuracy, and can accurately identify the structural displacement characteristics.
