This paper presents DiVA, a new acoustic source localization scheme that uses an ad-hoc network of microphone sensor nodes to produce an accurate estimate of the source's location. DiVA uses pairwise comparisons of sound detection timestamps between local Voronoi neighbors to identify the node closest to the acoustic source and then estimates the source's location. The scheme improves on the state of the art by effectively dealing with anchor nodes' position error, time stamp measurement error and time synchronization error in real world conditions. Through simulation and experimental evaluations, DiVA is shown to be more robust than existing solutions under different error conditions.

Cloud computing is a promising technology having ability to influence the way of the provision of computing and storage resources through virtual machine (VM). VM Consolidation is an efficient way to improve power efficiency and quality guarantee for on-demand services. However, it is an integer programming problem and as well as a NP-hard problem to find optimal solutions within polynomial time. In this paper, the VM consolidation problem is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem, which has three conflicting objectives, i.e., reducing power consumption, achieving good load balancing and shortening VM migration time. We propose a multi-objective optimization algorithm based on biogeography-based optimization (BBO) for the VM consolidation problem, which is named as MBBO/DE: Multi-objective Biogeography-Based Optimization algorithm hybrid with Differential Evolution. It utilizes cosine migration model, differential strategies and Gaussian mutation model to improve the quality of habitats and the ability of finding optimal solutions. Experiments have been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of MBBO/DE using synthetic and real-world instances. Experimental results show that MBBO/DE obtains a better performance while simultaneously reducing power consumption and achieving good load balancing within a satisfactory time as compared to genetic algorithm (GA), differential evolution (DE), ant colony optimization (ACO) and BBO.

In the era of post peta scale computing, high-performance and reliable storage systems have become much more important. Close cooperation between network and storage is an emerging issue. This paper proposes a network-based data processing architecture to build reliable and high-performance distributed storage system using future programmable network devices. distributed storage systems use replication or erasure coding for ensuring reliability. However, they require additional data transfer and computing resources. Satisfying both reliability and performance is an important issue for storage systems. Recent studies related to Software Defined Networking (SDN) imply that programmable network switch will become more functional. Currently, SDN intends to provide a flexible routing mechanism. Network switches are starting to have intelligent mechanisms and are expected to have a capability for data processing. In our proposed architecture, storage controller functionality is offloaded to a programmable network switch to eliminate additional data transfer. We conducted experiments to show an advantage of the proposed network-based data processing mechanisms for erasure coding and show an optimized design for distributed storage systems. With the proposed method, the performance gain of a reliable data storage system is 44% compared with a client compute case.

In this cutthroat era of 21st Century Traffic information is considered as one of the prominent valuable resources in vehicular networks for big data analysis. In order to effectively utilize the acquired resources, big data analysis in near real time will be an appropriate way to produce valuable information from raw data. In order to exhibit the importance of big data investigation, an efficient architecture has been proposed for near real time big data analysis in vehicular networks, which indeed will keep pace with the latest trends and development with respect to emerging big-data paradigm. The proposed architecture, comprises centralized data storage mechanism for batch processing and distributed data storage mechanism for streaming processing in real time analysis. Furthermore a work flow model has also been designed for big data architecture to examine streaming data in near real time process. Furthermore, an algorithm is designed for organizing the vehicle flow in a particular location or place. The proposed system model is for optimal utilization of the massive data set, meant for streaming data in near real time process intended for ITS (intelligent Transportation System) in a vehicular environment.

The advancement of mobile technology has lead to its utilization in the area of learning. The mobile device can be used as a sensor to gain knowledge about the learners' location, learners' context and also the device characteristics like its screen size and network bandwidth. The huge amount of study materials available in the internet makes it difficult for the learner to browse over relevant content at the right time. Hence providing relevant and useful learning content at the right time considering the learners' context is one among the objectives of ubiquitous learning (U-learning) environment. The proposed Android-based U-learning system provides personalized recommendations using technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) recommender model. The U-learning system is based on hybrid collaborative filtering and is implemented on Hadoop platform with computing done as a MapReduce job. The distributed computing platform adapts to big data based ubiquitous learning recommender system for 21st century learners.

In this study, a possibility of using a bioethanol-diesel emulsion as an alternative fuel for compression ignition (CI) engines is explored. For the investigation bioethanol was obtained from Madhuca Indica flower by fermentation process. Two important emission parameters nitric oxide (NO) and smoke emissions from the emulsion fueled single cylinder, four stroke, air cooled direct injection (DI) CI engine were determined and compared with those of diesel operation at different load conditions. The experimental results were also validated by a mathematical modelling using a MATLAB program and are presented in this paper. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2016.

Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud computing paradigm is a next wave in the era of computing and it has been identified as one of the emerging technologies in the field of Computer Science and Information technology. It has been understood from the review reports that integration of IoT and Cloud computing is in its infantile phase and it has not been extended to all application domains due to its inadequate security architecture. Hence, in this paper a novel integrated secured and intelligent architecture for the Internet of Things and Cloud computing is proposed. This is a unique intelligent architecture adoptable for the public to access diversified smart applications and services distributed in the cloud, anywhere, anytime, any device and any network irrespective of the underlying technologies in a smart environment. The cloud services are integrated and connected through a novel IP/MPLS (Internet Protocol/ Multiprotocol Label Switching) core. Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) is used to ensure complete protection against the security risks such as confidentiality, integrity, privacy and authentication. This model eliminates ambiguity, ensures security with enhanced performance and realizes the vision of "one intelligent smart card for any applications and transactions". The performance of the proposed architecture is tested by establishing a test bed in a simulated environment and the results are reported.

Solutions provided by Cloud computing not only includes the issues inherited from related technologies such as virtualization and distributed computing, but also new concerns associated to complexity of the cloud ecosystem composed by the cloud entities and their interactions. Authentication plays an important aspect in Cloud computing. This proposed system concentrates on authentication with reasonable time factor and reduce data traffic in the Cloud computing process. In addition, this system also identifies and analysis the credential management that focus on the cloud ecosystem for dynamic groups. Moreover a framework for credential classification that analyses the unifying concept and its related service is proposed and implemented. Cloud computing trend is rapidly increasing that has an technology connection with Grid computing, Utility computing, distributed computing. Cloud service providers such as Amazon IBM, Google's Application, Microsoft Azure etc., provide the users in developing applications in cloud environment and to access them from anywhere. Cloud data are stored and accessed in a remote server with the help of services provided by cloud service providers. Providing security is a major concern as the data is transmitted to the remote server over a channel (internet). Before implementing Cloud computing in an organization, security challenges needs to be addressed first. Running experiments on modern systems like supercomputers, cloud infrastructures or P2P networks became very complex, both technically and methodologically. It is difficult to re-run an experiment or understand its results even with technical background on the technology and methods used. storing the provenance of experimental data, i.e., storing information about how the results were produced, proved to be a powerful tool to address similar problems in computational natural sciences. In this paper, we (1) survey provenance collection in various domains of computer science, (2) introduce a new classification of provenance types, and (3) sketch a design of a provenance system inspired by this classification.
