One of the biggest challenges in high-performance computing is to reduce the power and energy consumption. Research in energy efficiency has focused mainly on energy consumption at the node level. Less attention has been given to the interconnect, which is becoming a significant source of energy-inefficiency. Although supercomputers undoubtedly require a high-performance interconnect, previous work has shown that network links have low average utilization. It is therefore possible to save energy using low-power modes, but link wake-up latencies must not lead to a loss in performance. This paper proposes the Self-tuned Pattern Prediction System (SPPS), a self-tuned algorithm for energy proportionality, which reduces interconnect energy consumption without needing any application-specific configuration parameters. The algorithm uses prediction to discover repetitive patterns in the application's communication, and it is implemented inside the MPI library, so that existing MPI programs do not need to be modified. We build on previous work, which showed how the application structure can be successfully exploited to predict the communication idle intervals. The previous work, however, required the manual adjustment of a critical idle interval length, whose value depends on the application and has a major effect on energy savings. The new technique automatically discovers the optimal value of this parameter, resulting in a self-tuned algorithm that obtains large interconnect energy savings at little performance cost. We study the effectiveness of our approach using ten real applications and benchmarks. Our simulations show average energy savings in the network links of up to 21%. Moreover, the link wake-up latencies and additional computation times have a negligible effect on performance, with an average penalty less than 1%.

Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud computing paradigm is a next wave in the era of computing and it has been identified as one of the emerging technologies in the field of Computer Science and Information technology. It has been understood from the review reports that integration of IoT and Cloud computing is in its infantile phase and it has not been extended to all application domains due to its inadequate security architecture. Hence, in this paper a novel integrated secured and intelligent architecture for the Internet of Things and Cloud computing is proposed. This is a unique intelligent architecture adoptable for the public to access diversified smart applications and services distributed in the cloud, anywhere, anytime, any device and any network irrespective of the underlying technologies in a smart environment. The cloud services are integrated and connected through a novel IP/MPLS (Internet Protocol/Multiprotocol Label Switching) core. Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) is used to ensure complete protection against the security risks such as confidentiality, integrity, privacy and authentication. This model eliminates ambiguity, ensures security with enhanced performance and realizes the vision of "one intelligent smart card for any applications and transactions". The performance of the proposed architecture is tested by establishing a test bed in a simulated environment and the results are reported.

This paper presents DiVA, a new acoustic source localization scheme that uses an ad-hoc network of microphone sensor nodes to produce an accurate estimate of the source's location. DiVA uses pairwise comparisons of sound detection timestamps between local Voronoi neighbors to identify the node closest to the acoustic source and then estimates the source's location. The scheme improves on the state of the art by effectively dealing with anchor nodes' position error, time stamp measurement error and time synchronization error in real world conditions. Through simulation and experimental evaluations, DiVA is shown to be more robust than existing solutions under different error conditions.

In this cutthroat era of 21 st Century Traffic information is considered as one of the prominent valuable resources in vehicular networks for big data analysis. In order to effectively utilize the acquired resources, big data analysis in near real time will be an appropriate way to produce valuable information from raw data. In order to exhibit the importance of big data investigation, an efficient architecture has been proposed for near real time big data analysis in vehicular networks, which indeed will keep pace with the latest trends and development with respect to emerging big-data paradigm. The proposed architecture, comprises centralized data storage mechanism for batch processing and distributed data storage mechanism for streaming processing in real time analysis. Furthermore a work flow model has also been designed for big data architecture to examine streaming data in near real time process. Furthermore, an algorithm is designed for organizing the vehicle flow in a particular location or place. The proposed system model is for optimal utilization of the massive data set, meant for streaming data in near real time process intended for ITS (intelligent Transportation System) in a vehicular environment.

Prior studies have established the performance impact of coherence protocols optimized for specific patterns of shared-data accesses in Non-Uniform-Memory-Architecture (NUMA) systems. First, this work incorporates a directorybased protocol into the runtime system of X10-a PartitionedGlobal- Address-Space (PGAS) programming language-to manage read-mostly, producer-consumer, stencil, and migratory variables. This protocol complements the existing X10Protocol, which keeps a unique copy of a shared variable and relies on message transfers for all remote accesses. The X10Protocol is effective to manage accumulator, write-mostly and general read-write variables. Then, it introduces a new shared-variable access-pattern profiler that is used by a new coherence-policy manager to decide which protocol should be used for each shared variable. The profiler can be run in both offline and online modes. An evaluation on a 128-core distributed-memory machine reveals that coordination between these protocols does not degrade performance on any of the applications studied, and achieves speedup in the range of 15% to 40% over X10Protocol. The performance is also comparable to carefully hand-written versions of the applications.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has gained popularities in construction domain as an effective data processing tool as well as a collaboration platform by virtue of its capacity of integrating lifecycle diverse data. To be truly embraced, the critical issue of effectively processing massive BIM models must be solved. Porting BIM to cloud computing infrastructure is well acknowledged as a promising industry solution. This paper presents MR4BIM, a scalable distributed parallel computing framework enhanced from Hadoop MapReduce (MR). We extend MR model into four stages, which solves MR's unsuitability in construction domain due to difficulties such as even data partitioning, multiple BIM data source, and versioning. Critical issue of increment BIM data judgment as effective MR input data is solved. Based on this framework, a series of key applications are studied. Experiment result from lab environment proves its efficiency.

With the increasing demand to extend data mining technology to datasets inherently distributed among a large number of autonomous and heterogeneous sources over a network, there comes a new innovative technology that leads the system based on the mobility code especially mobile agents. Primary focus in distributed systems is that mobile agents have a number of key features that allow them to reduce the network load and overcome network latency. Mobile agents offer a more uniform approach to handling code and data in a distributed system. They can encapsulate protocols, and they can work remotely, even asynchronously and disconnected from a network. It improves the latency and bandwidth of client-server applications and reducing vulnerability to network disconnection. This paper presents an analysis of the various applications of mobile agents and some of the benefits and challenges of this new technology.

Based on different spatial scale data, and relied on GIS spatial visualization technology, this paper discusses the agglomeration and equilibrium evolution characteristics, regional gaps and scale characteristics of regional development pattern in China during the first decade in 21st century. The study shows that there is strong regularity in spatial change process between China's population and economy, mainly reflected by the trend of aggregated distribution in the coastal, riverside and other major spatial development axis. The east-west regional gap is still the main development gap. Urban-rural income gap and regional development gap have strong spatial coupling, and spatial distribution of population and economic dislocation is the main factor leading regional gaps.

The domain of Healthcare is characterized by difficulty, dynamism and variety. In the 21st century healthcare represents different challenges (the increasing cost of care and the growing of populations). For that, Agent technology can provide better healthcare than the traditional medical system. In the hospital, several types of medical problems can be solved by agents. As examples of problems, which emerge in the hospital, we mention: collaboration between hospital wards, elaborations of diagnostics, the collection of information about patients etc. The adaptation of cooperative Multi Agent System (MAS) can solve these problems. In this regard, this study proposes a general architecture that integrates Swarm Intelligence into Multi Agent healthcare System in order to make care as efficient as possible.

Video search systems have become popular in recent years. The system prompts users to give a string query and retrieves the matched video quickly from the user for playing. There is still no established search method available for scalable fast search in large distributed video databases. In video search systems, when the number of online users reaches a certain scale, it will greatly reduce the response from the server. There are many video resources stored in distributed databases which should be accessible to all the users. If many users access the videos at the same time, it may lead to increase in load on the server. To solve this problem, cloud computing technology is used. A distributed database is used for storing and indexing videos. This system uses Map Reduce paradigm for retrieving the videos in distributed fashion. Map Reduce approach allows splitting the tasks into sub-tasks and then assigning it to various virtual nodes present in the cloud, which are then processed and consolidated to give the final output. Thus, the processing speed is increased while the processing time is greatly reduced.
